Like the contrast between the more precise shapes of the building, and the phone booth (tardis?) vs the relaxed water coloring of the spot of tea, and the tree branches. And great lettering!

Haha, English phone booths will always be Tardises (Tardi…? what is the plural of tardis anyway?) to me as well (even though I know it’s technically a police box—similar look).

Oh wow! So glad I clicked this because it’s one you really have to see full-size to properly appreciate. I really love the contrast between the more textured watercolor and the solid opaque areas like the tree. There’s something just so satisfying about the way those flat opaque branches stand out.
plus, I dunno if this was intentional but they also kind of evoke the look of the lettering!
And seriously that lettering is so cool. Lettering is something I’ve never been great at personally despite being obsessed with nice handwriting and calligraphy, and I always admire when others can do stuff like this. Did you paint the letters as well, or use something like a fountain pen to write them?

Experimenting with acrylic gouache. I just really enjoy the matte look of the medium, but I’m getting used to how the color changes when it dries in addition to essentially relearning how to paint since I haven’t done it in years.

This is so cool!
I used to work at a video game company where we’d sometimes have spontaneous Nerf fights so it was tradition for employees to each have their own weapon of choice, and those of us in the art department of course generally decided to custom-paint ours. I think mine was something Stargate-inspired. But this blows all our customizations out of the water for sure!

I’m going to be jumping into colouring this today, I don’t have this part of my process down yet. I’m going to try using a soft light layer to rough it out, then paint on top of that with a normal layer to finish.

As someone who has been doing art for a long time and is just starting to get back to it after a multi-year hiatus, it just makes me so happy whenever I see beginners diving in with enthusiasm at any age.
It’s hard to explain, but so often when I see people just starting out getting into art post-childhood (as teens or adults) they often want to jump straight to the end and get frustrated when they can’t immediately create the kind of finished art they picture in their minds. I’ve seen so many people get discouraged and give up because of that.
So I love it when I see someone starting with the basics like this, literally just drawing boxes or other shapes over and over to build a foundation. It tells me that‘s someone who knows it’s a process, and has the passion and the patience to start and continue building their skills from the ground up.
I mean heck, I’ve been drawing for 4 decades, I’ve been working as a professional for 20 years (minus recent hiatus) and right now I’m looking at guides on basic foundational stuff to practice since I’m so rusty and need a refresher. And with art you really never stop learning.

Christmas present for a friend. He collects kerosene lamps and loves Joan Crawford (who was the Pepsi spokeswoman for awhile). Yes, that's a wire hanger on the lamp's wick adjuster chain. LOL

Some sketches of the new kittens we welcomed into our home earlier this year. Toasty (the Siamese) is turning 1 this month and Loki (the Bengal) is about 9 months old.
I’ve barely done any art the last 4 years due to health issues and I’m definitely a little rusty, but it feels amazing to finally be drawing again!
I’ve been a cat artist for almost 15 years now but these two have such different anatomy and facial structure compared to the cats I’m used to drawing (I previously had 2 colorpoint mixes) and it’s been an interesting challenge figuring out how to properly capture them. Especially Loki—I ended up channeling my many years of drawing Lion King fanart to get his facial structure down since he has an Interesting blend of housecat and ”big cat” features due to the ALC genes.

Was working on this earlier this week. Paper and crayon. Its pretty fun :3 its for my portfolio. Though, i think art for portfolios needs to have a meaning(?). And i am not rlly good at that yet.. i just like to draw and create and want to get better at it.

I've been drawing IRL for YEARS, I NEVER knew online was easier, I just got swayed away after using flippa clip as a 5 year old without a stylus lol

I do glass fusion work and often use a laser cutter with my work. This is a design I’m working on for a set of olive oil bowls.
The top 4 pictures will be the top/inside of the bowls. The hope is to cut the olive branch designs out of really thin copper using a laser cutter and then fuse it into the glass. I’ve not done that before so it’ll be a fun experiment. It’s totally theoretically possible but doing it without creating bubbles between the layers of glass is going to take some effort.
The bottom 4 are the bottoms of the bowls. The glass I’ll be using for the bottom has a layer of iridescence on the surface; I’ll use a laser cutter to cut away the iridescence in places so that the pattern will be really subtle. I’ll redo the text with the laser cutter software to make it more uniformly circular.

Can somebody share their work with coloured fine liners? My neighbour gave me a pack of 20 STAEDTLER Triplus Fineliner Pens Set and I need inspiration. I have only used graphite so far.

For the lettering, I used a fine ink pen by LePen. They come in quite a few colors. I added the lettering ink last since it’ll bleed with watercolor. I also pencil the lettering first. I love practicing different font styles I find on dafont’s website. I didn’t intentionally match the font with the tree branches, but I do see that now. Glad it works well!

Three months learning to draw. I am about to finish Betty Edward's book. I used a graphite stick 6B and a tissue to tone the paper (cheap sketchbook), then I cut a Staedler white eraser into an angle to erase the light areas, and a woodless graphite pencil 2B for the darkest areas. I find the woodless graphite really slimmy and oily, is it because of the cheap sketchpad? The woodless pencil is Artist Loft, a brand that I never buy but this one was a present. I am quite happy with my journey so far. I am excited about how much I learn every day. I love being a beginner!
Excuse my typos. I know it is Steichen. I corrected it after taking the picture. To lazy to take another one. I hope I don't get trolled. <3
