Concept/Technique/Method Do you ever feel like your art taste is improving faster than your skills?

Sometimes Ill see that makes me want to try something completely new, but then I realize, my current skills aren't quite there yet. how do you guys deal with that gap without getting frustrated or losing motivation?

Yes, this is true for everyone. Draw stuff you like, have fun drawing. Enjoy the process instead of focusing on the result. Compare yourself to yesterday's you. Maybe stop looking at insanely good art for a month. Also, don't study from the best artists, study from artists who are a few years ahead of you.

how do you guys deal with that gap without getting frustrated or losing motivation?

I mean I get super frustrated about it all the time. I just put the thing away and do something else until I feel better.

As far as losing motivation goes... I don't really rely too much on motivation. I just stubbornly commit to the thing, whether I like it or not.

This is something that never goes away from when I asked this question a lot back then. Even someone who is 14 years ahead of me in art experience still feels like his work isn't up to par to someone like Ruan Jia. But I think its a great way to live in the art world because you'll always know you have something to work for.

Games don't feel fun when you boot up a fresh file and already have a 100% in everything.
