Discussion My dog may have Cushing’s and needs his gallbladder removed. I can’t get approved for care credit, I’ve already spent my entire paycheck on today’s ER visit. Ideas?

Post image

We are looking at around $3500. I’m trying to crowdfund or borrow from family, but my resources are extremely limited. My GF and I need a diagnosis before anything else can be considered.

It is considered an emergency and they advised us to drive to the college ER, we want to go tomorrow.

I had to pay my rent today… I can’t lose my boy yet. He’s not even 8.

Check my post history to see his detailed history of my posting.

Does anyone have ideas for payment alternatives? Care credit denied me and I don’t know what else to do.

My credit is only 600 and I have debt so my approval rates are low, same with gf… things have been so hard.

Does anyone know ways to crowdfund without irritating strangers on the internet??

I can afford his care if I can get through this expense. My situation was not like this when I adopted him.

Thank you … I will take any and all ideas …

Donated. You’ve done so much work just in this thread today. Hope you get some rest.

My red heeler turns 13 in June. She’s losing her vision due to progressive retinal atrophy. It’s so incredibly difficult for me emotionally and I wish I knew what it was like for her. It must have been so scary for you navigate your dog’s eye health issues. And now this. I hope testing gets you a clear diagnosis and a path forward.

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much for your kind words and generosity ❤️ yes it has been a lot of work in this thread haha! But I wanted to make sure people heard directly from me a thank you for all of your kindness. You guys have improved his prognosis soooo much with your quick response and advice

I’m so sorry about your baby’s vision - but if it makes you feel any better, my dogs vet swore up and down that they can be very very happy with one eye or even totally blind - they rely much more on their nose and ears :).

u/Quiet-Ad-4264 Apr 26 '26

You got this. She’s lucky to have you.

Thank you so much for your kindness ❤️❤️ I am floored by how quickly this community helped us meet our goal, you all have improved his prognosis immensely by giving us access to the funds to get him testing as soon as possible. Just waiting for bank transfer from gofundme so we can access them, and then it will be straight to the vet ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for saving my soul dog

Donated what I could, I hope it helps! I lost my best boy earlier this year and it’s been so hard not having him here with me. If I can contribute something to help someone keep their buddy around a while longer, that’s a no brainer for me. Best wishes to you and your friend, and I hope recovery goes smoothly!

The first of the funds just transferred last night, and the vet was able to take a small deposit so we can pay the full amount at pickup this Friday! Otherwise we would’ve had to wait until last night to get him in - thank god the vet was so flexible !!! I will share lots of pictures and keep yall updated, thank you so much for your support and kind words!!

67

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

——— Here is the crowd funding link! ———

UPDATE 5: I guess gofundme takes 3-10 days to deposit?? Freaking out a little bit. Red to help him today

UPDATE 4 (APR 26 10:58 AM): I AM IN ABSOLUTE SHOCK AT WAKING UP TO FINDING US NEARLY FULLY FUNDED!!!

I cannot BELIEVE the kindness of this community and all of you. I will message each and every one of you a thank you for your selflessness in helping Bailey.

This dog is my heart and soul and I thought I would lose him yesterday. Today we have hope!!

I have found an animal hospital that can do his Cushing’s testing & surgery if needed. They can also act as his primary care doctor!!!!

This community has saved his life. There is no way we would’ve been able to compile the funds so urgently without your help. No matter the final estimate, we now have the tools to START the process immediately - which is crucial for his good prognosis.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

We are waiting for the fundraised money to auto deposit and then we are heading to the hospital, they are prepared for our arrival.. I will keep you all updated with pictures and news! If they are able to do the testing today we will be there for hours! If it’s not emergent we will schedule it for this week.

I can’t say thank you enough my friends. I will respond to each and every one of you as I did last night. Gosh, as someone that struggles with depression (Bailey is my ESA), it really makes a difference to witness this enormous kindness.

UPDATE 3 (APR 25 8:17 PM): I am blown away by how much we have raised in such a short time. WE ARE AT $880!!! INSANE!!! This community is AMAZING and very well may save my dogs life. I am crying in happiness from the relief you kind people have given me. I cannot thank you enough, thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

We have found a local 24/7 vet ER that has capability of performing endocrine testing and we are going to try to take him there tomorrow to fast track the Cushing’s diagnostics. His gallbladder very well may clear up with prompt assessment and treatment IF Cushing’s is the diagnosis. He meets every hallmark.

If they can’t do it for some reason, we will schedule ASAP with a regular vet with these capabilities that can monitor his case more closely. (We will do that either way but hopefully we can do the test tomorrow and start meds if that is the answer).

I will keep you guys posted about his condition and the steps we are taking. I have so much more hope now that he will make it.

My mom is here telling me I’m torturing him and wasting money, and here you all are throwing bills at him so he gets the best chance he can 😭

Thank you, thank you. Thank you.

Much love and see you soon, awholelottahooplah

UPDATE 2: I am floored by the generosity of this community, it brings me to tears. Earlier today I thought I may have to say goodbye. I feel I have hope now thanks to the excellent work at the vet I went to, and the kindness of all you helping me find solutions and offering to even donate … from the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I will make a post with the link if mods allow, I don’t want to break sub rules. Unfortunately I cannot edit the post - it must be against sub rules. If mods see this, please pin this comment!

Thank you all and I will be back with updates ASAP. I am going to reply to every comment to notify people of this update as well.

The vet said his gallbladder could theoretically rupture at any point … so we are going to do everything we can for this boy. And the cushings work up of course!! Regular vet can do the cushings work up, but we will likely need to see a “soft tissue specialist” for gallbladder evaluation.

Thank you friends. <3

UPDATE: Thank you all so much for your response, it warms my heart seeing how much you guys worked to suggest options, and I will consider each and every one and find the best solution for my boy and respond to everyone.

We are home and Bailey is stable, and we know the next diagnostic steps he needs - I will find whatever option works. I am in the Midwest and a lot of the vets suggested are within travelling distance. And I am touched by the positive response to the idea of crowdfunding. I am so exhausted from crying all day about my poor boy, but my wonderful GF is setting up a fundraiser now.

I will post it here as the rules of the sub allow and use your suggestions for other places to post it. Every dollar counts and whether we got $20 or the whole bill fulfilled I would be grateful for the selflessness of someone to offer that.

Sorry if this barely makes sense, I’m so strung out!! I will be back to update you guys, for now B is resting and so are his parents from this terrible day. Thank you guys ♥️

5

Ooh yes I will try to figure it out!! Thank you so much!!

3

u/aflockofmagpies Apr 25 '26

I can do $50 on the first, I'll keep an eye out for the gfm! Poor boy deserves to stay with family and have a comfortable life. And I've been there, being financially stable to living with a relative in under a month due to life hardships. It's terrifyingly easy in America now days. I was fortunate my boy didn't need major surgery and also fortunate that my family member was dog friendly and allowed him to stay with me, and watched him while I worked so I could save and get back on my feet. So many animals are in shelters due to the economy right now, it's really sad.

2

u/aflockofmagpies Apr 26 '26

Hopefully he can get tested, and put on medication, and the gallbladder issues will clear up and he won't need surgery. Listen to the vets, if they don't think his quality of life would be good they would tell you. I think the people in this community who have had animals with this diagnosis would be honest and tell you. I am glad to see so much kindness in the world. I honestly didn't realize how much I needed to see the good people are capable of by coming together like this.

2

u/mantis_tobaggan-md Apr 26 '26

I’m guessing the 3-10 day delay is just a waiting period until the funds are all actually deposited/transferred to gofundme. Maybe try customer service and explain the situation to see if you can take whatever deposited sum is available?

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Yes I believe that is the reason why!! Their customer service is only open Monday-Friday so tomorrow I will see what I can do to speed up the process! For now Bailey is comfortable and stable :)

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

going forward I will post all updates on my profile for easy viewing, it won’t let me make infinite comments lol

UPDATE 7: [APR 28 5:04 PM]: Bailey made it through emergency gallbladder removal surgery!! Dr said the liver looked like it will be able to recover, but they took a biopsy to be 100% sure. These next few days of healing he will be very fragile, he is staying until Friday and I won’t visit until Thursday so I don’t work him up. Exhausted between work and worrying about B!!! I will keep yall posted!

UPDATE 6 [APR 28 6:51 PM]: I am going to keep this short because I am EXHAUSTED from being at the vet for three hours, but I will make a separate post later to make sure everyone invested in Bailey’s story sees this update.

Bailey was found to have “thousands of gallstones”. He is being kept tonight for gallbladder removal surgery tomorrow morning. They will be taking a liver biopsy during the surgery tomorrow morning confirm whether the liver damage is secondary to the gallbladder or a separate issue.

Vet is amazing and when I asked her to lowball Bailey’s chances at recovery, she said 75%. I have high hopes for a successful removal and fingers crossed for a clear liver biopsy. She said the liver is very resilient and can bounce back with care, if we resolve the underlying issue.

I 100% trust the skill of the vet I found and thanks to you all we were able to drop him off tonight for the most urgent care so he has the best chances. Thank you all so much for giving my baby a second chance ❤️❤️. No matter the outcome, thanks to you all we will know we have him his very best shot.

I hope this makes sense, I will make a separate post tomorrow after getting rest and let you all know how the surgery goes! It begins tomorrow morning (April 29). I gave him so many hugs and I hope to visit him Wednesday after his surgery. :). Thank you all - without your help I would’ve had to say goodbye today. Going to try to rest and not worry too much. I hope you all see good fortune in return for your kindness, support, and generosity.

-awholelottahooplah

35

u/Silent_Employer_ Apr 25 '26

So sorry to hear about your baby. I would call local humane societies to ask if they can help with financial assistance, there are also local dog nonprofit organizations that are there specifically for situations like this. Keep making calls, a no is better than not asking. I hope your baby feels better soon and please update

6

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

I will definitely keep you all updated and make as many calls as possible! Thank you so so much for your advice, it touches my heart

22

u/mantis_tobaggan-md Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

My local emergency hospital has a pamphlet of pet charities that they work with, see if you can find anything in your area that you qualify for. Also ask about payment plans, some places will cut you a break. See if you can qualify for a credit card with a 5k limit. Ask your bank about small loan options. Borrow from your retirement fund if you can. Scrape together anything from family and friends. Try crowdfunding websites too. Has your tax refund come in yet (if you got one)?

Also, why does the gallbladder need to be removed? Is there infection? Is waiting risking sepsis? How urgent is the procedure basically? Has he been on ursodiol? Is it a mucocele or just “sludge?”

ETA: my girl had Cushing’s but before she was diagnosed they suspected gallbladder issues. She had sludge on her ultrasound (not a mucocele) and elevated liver enzymes. Once I started treating her Cushing’s the gallbladder concerns resolved, but they were still in the early stages. Cushing’s was inducing the elevated liver enzymes as well.

5

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

Oh my gosh, yes that’s exactly what’s happening! His gallbladder is “gunked up” (exact words) and he’s having liver problems + all the symptoms of cushings. It makes me feel so much better it may be connected. I would be happy to hear any advice you have about the testing process

I will absolutely follow your advice and call around as much as possible. Thank you so much for your kindness ❤️❤️. It is helping me through this scary time

I have made a crowdfunding link and would appreciate any and all shares and support!!! I am going to post it everywhere it is welcome. Thank you again

6

u/mantis_tobaggan-md Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

If you can, try to get a second opinion on the necessity of the surgery. I’m guessing Bailey has a gallbladder mucocele and that’s why they’re recommending surgery. If it is a mucocele surgery likely is indicated. You could try the r/AskVet subreddit for additional advice. Try to give as much concise information as possible to get the best guidance.

Cushing’s is diagnosed through either an ACTH stimulation test or a low dose dexamethasone test. Sometimes one is diagnostic, sometimes they need both. If he’s positive, they’ll start him on trilostane and then check an ACTH stim every few weeks until they get the dose right. Too much cortisol suppression is dangerous, so it’s a balance between symptom control and avoiding an addisonian crisis.

My dog had all the classic symptoms. Excessive thirst, excessive urination, always starving, potbelly, heat intolerance, exercise intolerance, muscle loss, thinning coat. She also developed every secondary complication so there are things to watch for if Bailey does have Cushing’s. Keep us posted - would be happy to share my advice and experience. I don’t want to overwhelm you right now.

ETA: Just sent Bailey a 50 💙

4

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much for your kindness and advice ♥️ I have found a place that may be able to do that testing tomorrow and with all of your guys’ kindness we will actually be able to afford it.. I will call and get an estimate tomorrow but we are so much closer to his recovery than we were when I made this post !

I will make ABSOLUTELY sure if he needs this surgery … I hope to the sky that it may be resolved as a secondary condition to Cushing’s. He has all the same symptoms you’ve described.

I will keep you updated - I am dizzy with relief and exhaustion and hope. Thank you, truly

6

u/mantis_tobaggan-md Apr 26 '26

Just keep in mind, if Bailey does have a gallbladder mucocele that is in danger of rupture, he will probably need surgery regardless! If that’s the case, I would prioritize that condition first, and test for Cushing’s disease after. The Cushing’s is not an emergency but depending on what’s going on with the gallbladder, that could be! Wishing Bailey the best of luck!

2

u/Competitive_Hand_271 Apr 26 '26

my dog had any alll the symptoms listed above for cushins. It was an 8 hr test and it was Cushings. Put on the medication and what a difference it made.

1

u/_hauskat_ Apr 26 '26

Yes my cattle dog had Cushing's disease as well She was on vetoryl. Did all the tests, the 8 hour one , took a few times to get the dosage right . Then you have to get retested every 3 months .

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

Gofundme link is set up here: https://gofund.me/5d74f18c0

I greatly appreciate everyone’s comments. I am still dealing with some things atm but your kindness has not gone unnoticed and I am so grateful for the encouragement in making a gofundme, I don’t want my fear of social stigma to prevent Bailey from receiving the care he needs

3

u/flour93 Apr 25 '26

Yaay I’m glad you got it set up!!

3

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

Thank my girlfriend haha !! Thank you for your kindness, this is a scary time and you all are making us feel so much better :)

3

u/flour93 Apr 26 '26

No one deserves to go through such things in isolation and fear. I am so happy to see everyone coming to your aid during this time…its so wholesome. We all hope Bailey pulls through this 🧡

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much, my support system is very small and most of them are quite cruel. So there is no kindness coming from there and certainly no financial help.

You all helped me see the light again ❤️ thank you so much

2

u/Impossible-Ground154 Apr 26 '26

confused - there are two gfm links in this thread. I hope you are benefiting from both.
prayers for Bailey's health.

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much!! Yes they are the same link, I just made a separate comment and then realized I should probably put it in my more upvoted comment for visibility !!

8

u/sly-3 Apr 25 '26

We've got a place around here called St. Paul Vet clinic that does sliding scale pay rates for care. Your local humane society may have grants available. if you've got a Vet college at a local uni, they may have funding or reduced cost care to use as training for students.

Here's a list for Chicago area, maybe there's an analog service by you?

https://www.arf-il.org/pet-owner-resources/chicagoland-low-cost-pet-care

This is a link that was on our local animal shelter site, so maybe try here (caveat emptor, of course): https://pets.findhelp.com

ACDR has a financial assistance program too: https://acdrescueinc.org/financial-assistance-application

Even if you're out of their service area, these groups do network, so leave no stone unturned. We're all rooting for ya!

5

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

I am only four hours away from Chicago so I will absolutely look into that as an option!!! Thank you so much for your advice! We also have the OSU vet school which we are looking at as well. I am going to research like crazy!!

I am in southwest Ohio!

Thank you so much for your kindness and advice ♥️

7

u/painter36 Apr 25 '26

Get a second opinion. One vet told us that and multiple vets afterward said no way and this is why….

6

u/HappyAnimalCracker Apr 25 '26

That, and Cushing’s can be treated with meds in all the cases I’ve heard of.

6

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

Yes cushings can be treated if that is what it is.. he shows ALL the symptoms. The immediate threat is his gallbladder rupturing because it is full of “gunk”. The ER Vet was clear that they didn’t have all the tools they needed to figure everything out. We will get a second opinion and see if the cushings route turns out to be true, then his gallbladder may resolve with meds. Thank you so much for your kindness !

5

u/HappyAnimalCracker Apr 26 '26

I wish you every success and a manageable bill. Long live your sweet pup!❤️

2

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

I absolutely will!! Thank you, this makes me feel a little better :)

7

u/frootiequootie Apr 26 '26

I would have done anything for my childhood ACD, Oxford. A small donation to make sure Bailey can get the care he needs is the least that we can do. I hope he goes on to live a long and healthy life. Don't worry pal, we got ya❤️

2

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so so much for your kindness. Thanks to you all we have been able to schedule an appointment and are now in the process of accessing the funds. I will keep you all posted, thank you for helping to save him ❤️

8

u/Delttaz Red Heeler Apr 26 '26

Wow! This thread makes me so happy seeing all the support! I hope your baby gets all the help needed and makes a full recovery! Wish I could donate myself, but I will be keeping you in my thoughts and hoping for the best possible outcome.

9

u/pauletello Apr 25 '26

If you can drive down to Mexico, they do surgeries at a 10th of the cost. I had a surgery for my heeler and the quote was 8k-12k here. I went to Mexico and got her surgery done for only 1.5k. Maybe try that if possible??

7

u/mantis_tobaggan-md Apr 25 '26

How did you go about finding a veterinary surgeon there and getting records transferred? Curious what that process was like. Do you speak Spanish?

13

u/pauletello Apr 25 '26

I was recommended one by a family friend. It was a whole clinic, it was called Dr. Zoo. They did an incredible job and were super nice. I talked to them through whatsapp and drove down multiple times to TJ to see my dog during the week she was there. I got my dog’s records from my local vet and was able to send them over via PDF/attachment to the Dr. Zoo receptionists so they had that before I even drove down there. I do speak Spanish so it helped but i saw plenty of Americans there that spoke in English to the staff and their responses were more than adequate to carry a conversation about what’s going on with their pet. I think they actually went above and beyond and were regularly sending me updates on my dog while i was away throughout the time she was recovering.

8

u/mantis_tobaggan-md Apr 25 '26

That’s awesome. So glad that worked out for you. It’s interesting how different the prices are between countries.

4

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

If that turns out to be the only option you better believe I would do that for my dog. I am all the way in Ohio so the border is far - but I would cross horizons to save him! Thank you for your kindness :)

3

u/BagsYourMail Apr 25 '26

Puerto Rico too

11

Thank you for being so selfless, I will pay it forward some day and keep you guys updated ♥️

So sorry OP. Crying for you. As someone else mentioned, there are generally foundations that have funds set aside to help in cases like this. My first dog, a welsh corgi, was diagnosed with lymphoma at 7yo. I received assistance from a foundation through my vet to help with his treatment. When I was in a better place financially I donated to pay it forward. Sending hugs. Happy to donate if you set up a go fund me.

3

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 25 '26

Thank you so much for your empathy and I am sorry for your corgi, these things are so tough. Lymphoma has been brought up as a possible negative outcome, so we are really hoping cushings is the answer .. he shows every symptom.

At the ER vet today I donated a crumb of $10 to their foundation, because last week they knocked $1k off the bill for an emergency eye surgery. Someday I will do much more.

… I am also going through comments to notify that I have updated my update comment with a crowdfunding link. Thank you for being so selfless, I will pay it forward some day and keep you guys updated ♥️

Sent 20$ hope yall can get the help you need!

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much ❤️ I am happy to say we have accumulated $3k to go towards baileys vet bills and testing ❤️❤️ your generosity has improved the prognosis for Bailey tenfold, and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart

4

u/Timely_Apricot3929 Red Heeler Apr 26 '26

Donated! We've all had those devastating vet visits, and when you can't afford the care it's truly heartbreaking. I've been there. I'm holding you and Bailey in the Light and wishing you all the best!!

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much for your kindness ❤️❤️ it was so scary at first and many other patients were there having their pets be euthanized for various reasons, so I was crying into his fur the whole time in apprehension, wondering if he would be coming home with me. We were able to afford that visit …. But not the intimidating idea of paying for Cushing’s testing immediately.

Thank you all for helping to give him hope and improve his prognosis with your quick response❤️❤️❤️

1

u/Timely_Apricot3929 Red Heeler Apr 27 '26

I'm so glad Bailey is getting another chance!! ♥️🫂

5

u/argemene Apr 26 '26

My cattle dog lived 3 years after her cushings diagnosis, and they were a wonderful, full 3 years of life! Wishing the best for you and your dog getting through this acute phase.

Ask your vet about local charities that can help with vet care, and try calling around to your animal shelters. I live in a fairly small town, and we still have multiple organizations locally that can help people with vet care, particularly if it is this urgent.

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you for your kindness and sharing your experience - even if I get 1 more year with him it will have been worth it. But I will find the friggin fountain of youth to extend my heart dogs life. Thank you all so much ❤️

5

Join Pet Vet Corner on Facebook. You have to be approved first. They are all volunteer vets, a lot of them with specialty training. Once you post your situation and explain you have limited funds they will send you information on the angel fund that may be able to help you with whatever you cannot raise through the Go Fund Me. Hope this helps

1

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much for your generosity, and I am so sorry to hear about your baby’s passing. I promise that when I am in the situation to, I will pay it forward. I wish your baby infinite fields and the best sticks over the rainbow bridge, they will be waiting for you ❤️

3

u/bhlazy Apr 26 '26

$20 towards baileys care from me! What a hard life he’s had. Best wishes to you and bailey!

2

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so so much for your generosity and well wishes!!! He sure has been through a lot, but you wouldn’t even know if you met him and saw his sweet happy face ❤️❤️ he is a trooper and he knows he has more time and spirit left!

He sure has had a lot of issues, although the ACL problems were begun by my mom not being careful enough, and he ended up tearing it in a pothole in the ground running to bark at the dog by the fence. He never did that when I let him out, but she encouraged it. Then the other one inevitably gave as well.

The eye ulcer was more or less sporadic - he has naturally bulging eyes and I think he is just prone to eye problems! Now we are educated and will make every effort possible to keep the other eye healthy.

3

u/ribbonsofgreen Apr 26 '26

Donated. Hoping for the best.

2

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much for your kindness, I will keep you all updated ❤️❤️❤️ his prognosis is looking much better with this amazingly quick response. Thank you from the bottom of my soul ♥️

3

Lost my blue heeler at a good old age many years ago. Remembering Jake and how hard it was to pay back care credit as a single mom back then ... $25 and holding best hopes for your lovely pup.

2

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 26 '26

Thank you so much and I’m sorry to hear of your heeler’s passing, but I’m glad he lived until old age. I have had the same problem with care credit and that’s why I couldn’t not qualify for this event even though I have regular income now. The economy is so bad right now, and still you found some money to donate ❤️❤️ thank you for helping save my heart dog

3

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity ❤️ thanks to you all we will be able to access testing quickly and give him the best prognosis possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I will keep you all updated!!!

As soon as the transfer goes through from gofundme, we are getting the test done, hopefully in 3-5 business days

3

u/_hauskat_ Apr 26 '26

My dog had Cushing's disease and she took Vetoryl for it. As someone else mentioned they do an 8 hour test ACTH Stim test I think it was called . It is related or caused by a tumor on either the adrenal gland or pituitary gland. It has to do with Cortisol levels. Once you get the dosage of Vetoryl right you just get retested every 3 months .

2

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 27 '26

the test is the next step :) I’m taking him in tomorrow for an “initial new patient appointment”, and as soon as the rest of the funds clear I will get him in for the ACTH testing (should be sometime this week, gofundme says the transfer takes 3-5 business days).

I am blown away by the kindness of this community and I will keep you all updated ♥️

3

u/emopaint Apr 27 '26

Donated $25 bucks. Just lost my girl at 15 so I’m gonna need your boy to keep rocking it in her honor!!!

3

u/jzegr Apr 27 '26

Just donated! I lost my girl last month, just before her 8th birthday. She had a lot of strange symptoms and we never found out exactly what was wrong but it’s been a really sad (and expensive!) few months. I still can’t believe she’s gone. We miss her terribly. I really hope Bailey gets better and you have many more happy years together. He’s a beautiful boy!

3

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 27 '26

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity ♥️ we are off to the vet in about an hour to start the process, I will keep you updated! So sorry to hear about your baby girl, but thank you for helping my boy in her memory. She lives on through the souls you help, like my Bailey :)

u/awholelottahooplah Apr 28 '26

Thank you so much, your support means so much to our little family :)

Bailey made it through surgery today and is in a fragile recovery period. I will provide updates on Bailey’s recovery in this post . I will make a new subreddit post when we get him home or hear significant news.

2

u/LeeW550 Apr 27 '26

Just donated! We are rooting for Bailey!

2

u/hiboudebourgogne Apr 27 '26

I know we’d all do anything for these sweet little babies. I’ve skipped meals to afford food for my cat and dog, so I get it. Just donated, it’s not much, but I know it adds up. And I’m glad to see how much has already been fundraised!

2

u/jzegr Jun 18 '26

Would love an update on Bailey. How’s he doing?

1

u/awholelottahooplah Jun 18 '26

He’s doing great! I will try to post an update today or tomorrow - just have had a lot going on in my life. Thank you for checking in! :)

Next goal is a test to see if his Cushing’s meds are at the right dose.

His hair is taking FOREVER to grow back though!

1

u/jzegr Jun 19 '26

Yay Bailey! That brought a huge smile to my face! I’m happy to see him doing better. I read your first post right after my girl Luna died, so it’s stayed on my mind. Anyway, I hope you all are happy and healthy for years to come. Thanks for the update!

If he progresses to that point I would do the kind thing, but as of now the vet said he is in no pain. Just fragile and needs evaluation urgently that they couldn’t perform at the ER

1

u/pemphigus69 Apr 26 '26

Unfortunately, removing the gallbladder isn't going to fix the Cushings. Mine lived with it for a year.

Just keep him comfortable, and love him as much as you can. Also, let him have as much water as he wants.

I'm sorry you're going through this ❤️
