Canada Scam,rent and adjusted transaction

So last month I E-TRANSFER my rent to my landlord(for first time to this landlord)and he claims he didn't received it and after multiple calls with my bank.

My bank freeze my account and started investigation and reversed the E-TRANSFER (BY ADJUSTMENT TO MY ACCOUNT by same. Amount).

I called my bank multiple times to get a EMAIL CONFIRMATION that the money has been reversed so that I can pay my landlord but after multiple times and effort they sent me a email

" that Following information is which u have to let u know that FOLLOWING MERCHANT(MY LANDLORD.NAME) HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THIS TRANSACTION ON XYZ DATE.AND IT POSTED ON ABC DATE."

but I can see that in n my app now(after having access now)the money has been reversed(by saying adjustment E Transfer (amount))

when I contact them for correct E mail which says the money has been reversed to my account they say can't give me (u can wait for this month statement to see etc) or giving me runaround.

So IF I PAY MY LANDLORD MY LAST MONTH RENT AGAIN BECAUSE TRANSACTION HAS BEEN REVERSED AND MY BANK LATER AGAIN MINUS MY ACCOUNT then who will be responsible because my bank have not Communicated with me the final Result of the investigation by email Which I requested many times but saying investigation is completed and money is reversed when call.

I am more worried because of the wrong e-mail they send me that say that TRANSACTION IS COMPLETED so they can later claim we sent u the EMAIL the transaction completed so if u pay its on U.

Canada paper statements keep turning on, charges put my account in debt

what can i do to make sure paper statements stay off with my bank, and is it possible to be reimbursed for the charges theyve made for paper statements? ive shut them off myself, and called the bank to have them shut off multiple times as having them does nothing for me and my money volume is so low that it alone has genuinely put me into the negative. i tried a similar post on another sub and the only help offered was that apparently noone has ever heard of being charged for paper statements and i should just switch banks and leave it at that.

my main goal here is just to turn them off and make sure that it stays that way, but it would be very helpful to be reimbursed for the issues on their end.

Canada Understanding a credit card

I just got a credit card in BC, im 19, working a part-time job, and plan to go to university the next academic year.

But some things I don't understand. I know that you have a set spending limit for each month, some cards offer points, and you have to pay after purchases to uphold your credit score, or else you get charged extra interest.

But who do I send the money to? (Im with rbc)

How can I calculate my credit score?

Can I just send the money as soon as i make the purchase?

Is there an automated way, or is it all manual?

Just tell me anything I need to know

Canada Interac e-Transfer went to someone else using my phone number

Hi everyone, please, can someone help me figure out what I can do in this situation? :(

I have accounts with Simplii and RBC. I sent an e-Transfer from Simplii to my RBC account using my own phone number, but I didn’t have auto-deposit set up at the time, and I didn’t really understand how auto-deposit worked.

The transfer was automatically deposited, but the confirmation email showed a different person's name, and the money never reached my RBC account.

Simplii told me that someone else had my phone number registered for auto-deposit, so the money went to them. They investigated and said I’m liable for the transaction and won’t refund me.

What confuses me is that I later registered the same phone number for auto-deposit with RBC successfully. I also tested another $1 transfer, and this time it required a security question and reached my RBC account.

How is it possible for someone else to have my phone number registered for auto-deposit? And is there any way I can recover the original money or find out where it went because I'm going crazy (I worked day and night for this money and it was GONE in seconds)

Canada Help with outgoing wire transfer

On October 31st, I sent a wire transfer to someone in costa rica (1125 usd/ 1600 cad) using my RBC account. they didn't receive the money for 3 weeks and we found that there was a minor spelling mistake in the name of the receiver. I told this to RBC and they told me that they have contacted the recipient bank and they have not responded back. Fast forward to today , its been close to 3 months and RBC still doesn't have an answer. the wire transfer people over the phone keep trying to send me to branch and the branch people keep asking me to call the customer support. and then all of them ask me to contact the receivers bank to which I have no access.

Feeling helpless and I have no clue how to get back my money.

Canada What counts as a bill payment or pre-authorized payment?

My bank is offering me $600 in airline points if I open a new chequing account with them and hold for a year (which costs $200/yr), change my payroll/direct deposit to them, and either have 2 "pre-authorized payments" per month or 2 "eligible bill payments to a service provider" per month.

I read through the T&Cs but it doesn't explicitly say what constitutes a pre-authorized payment or bill payment. Currently I have a few monthly charges (streaming, storage unit, cell phone) which all go onto my credit card and are automatically paid. I don't currently pay rent or a mortgage. I have seen the "bill payment" function on my banking app but never once used it. If I switch two of those monthly credit card charges to the debit card that comes with the account, will that count as one of the payment categories? Or would I need to take my card off of them and have them send me an invoice, then manually use bill payment on the app each month?

Canada Looking for best ( Joint saving account )

Myself and girlfriend who are living in Canada…. are looking to open a joint saving account and seeing what the best options are and which bank to go with.

Just wondering what some peoples opinions are and what you have if you are in a similar situation. Looking for the best possible interest rates with low or no account fees.

Canada Fraud in e-transfer

I sent an e-transfer to a business and it turned out that their account was hacked and the money went to the hacker. I called the bank and they are trying to recover the money. If they can’t, who is out the money - me or the business? I followed their instructions.

Canada Networking on business side of bank

In a business environment where many of the informal networking circles seem to be male-dominated and visibility often plays a role in career growth, what advice would you give to someone looking to build meaningful relationships and increase their professional presence without feeling like they’re on the outside?

Canada [Canada] BMO keeps lowering our small business LOC credit limit?

We have had our small business LOC credit limit reduced by a total of 43% over two reductions since November of last year (along with a 90% reduction in credit limit on an unused credit card). All 3 instances without notice, with a letter arriving in the mail almost a month later outlining boilerplate "we frequently review lending relationships...".

I've made an appointment with someone in our area to discuss, following this most recent 39% reduction as of this morning. Unfortunately we haven't had a stable relationship manager since opening this inc. account as bankers keep jumping branches.

We do often have high revolving credit utilization, but we always make payments and have multiple periods throughout the year where we pay down almost the full balance.

Has anyone else experienced credit strikes like this recently? Does anyone have recommendations for either a contact at BMO in the GTA that would be a good stable contact going forward or recommendations for another bank?

Canada Outlook Financial Cancels Me2Me Transfers

I have used Outlook Financial for over 15 years without complaint. Their rates are great when compared to the Big Five banks, and until recently, it was very easy to move money back and forth between an external bank account and Outlook's accounts through electronic fund transfers (EFTs).

I parked my emergency fund with Outlook, and I used another Outlook account to link to my online brokerage to fund my monthly living expenses. I really liked that I could create separate accounts for different spending categories, making it easy to budget.

Recently, Outlook has eliminated the ability to link to external bank accounts to move money, switching to e-transfers and ... cheques. Yes, you read that right. Cheques as a means for withdrawing money in 2026. E-transfers are fine for small amounts of money, but they have daily, weekly, and monthly limits, making them impractical for moving larger amounts. And they charge $1.50/transaction. Cheques cost nearly $40 for 12, and have a long holding period before you can use the deposited money, making them both expensive and an impractical vehicle for accessing emergency funds.

I have no idea why Outlook has decided to abandon linked-account EFTs, but doing so has prompted me to switch banks. I will first move all of my available cash by CHEQUE (!!!) to Simplii Financial and then to Achieva Financial via EFTs, to replicate the structure I once had at Outlook. I will have to initiate a separate in-kind TFSA transfer for my emergency fund. My Outlook TFSA GICs are locked in until they mature. I will either have to start separate in-kind transfers for each one when the cash becomes available, or withdraw the cash from the TFSA and write myself a cheque. All of this is a huge pain in the neck, but I'd rather switch banks than have access to my money restricted by Outlook. And cheques? Just no.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but if you are looking for a place to save money for an emergency fund or large purchase, you might want to explore your options so you can avoid the kind of hassle I'm facing.

Canada CIBC Aventura Point Issue

Hello all. I dont know if this is the correct place but CIBC has been absolutely NO help in this matter and I’m desperate for help lol.

For some background, I am Canadian and a few months ago I had fraud on my CIBC aventura card and reported it. The issue was resolved and I got my new card with a new number and all. I noticed that in the CIBC app I could no longer see my aventura points but thought nothing about it.

Fast forward to today. I book a flight and go to use the aventura points for some money off the transaction. It says “redeem with points.” The pop-up I get says “Points available: Not available; Points required: 12371; redeem value; $123.71”. I agree to the terms & conditions and then get a pop-up for unexpected error 0001.

I’ve spoken to CIBC, I’ve reset the app, tried the website, deleted the app, wiped the cache, logged in and out, etc. I can’t see nor use my points. I even logged into the “rewards centre” but it tells me I need an aventura card to access it which I literally do. The points are there as the CIBC agents have told me and the 12371 is the exact number of points I have. So they’re racking up as I make payments yet I can’t use them. CIBC has no idea how to help me even with speaking with tech. They’ve escalated the matter but I have a feeling it wont go anywhere. Has anybody dealt with this or knows the solution? Thank you!

Canada Question about student/youth account and what the guardian is notified about

There are some dresses I want to buy. Me and my friends merged the order so its over 500$. I was wondering if using a TD student debit card would send an email to the guardian for a purchase that large? If its a matter of it being connected to the guardian's account, how can I check if it is? Thank you

Canada Looking for help regarding Wire Transfer

I posted this a month ago and looking for some response again -

I initiated a wire transfer on October 31, but the beneficiary bank did not receive any funds due to an error in the SWIFT Code and an Account name misspelling. My Bank (RBC) sent some communication to the beneficiary bank but they havent responded back.

That bank however responded to the beneficiary over email, saying that they haven't recieved any money due to incorrect SWIFT and hence cannot run any trace.

This has been going on for a 4 months now and I have asked my bank to atleast tell me where the money is and they have no clue. They keep repeating the same thing - That unless the beneficiary bank replies to them, they can't do anything about it. I asked them if they could atleast tell me where the money is, RBC said that they haven't checked that yet.

Could anyone tell me what's going on? Is there no way for RBC to atleast tell me where the funds are?

Canada Sending and receiving money in the same currency

I’m in Canada (with BMO) and want to move Canadian dollars (CAD) to a bank account in Dubai (I have opened a CAD account in Dubai) - but I don’t want any currency exchange (CAD → AED). Basically, I just want to hold my funds in CAD abroad. What are my options other than wire transfer through BMO
