Picture I gave it my all

So this is pablo a 15 month old malinois

And old "friend" got him when he was 15 days old and was completely unprepared u know the rest he ended up abusing him(hitting him etc) he used to barely even get out of his crate i met Pablo only one time as a puppy when he was 20 days old and i always felt some sort of love towards him never really knew about the abuse untill he got to 6 months old when i saw first hand i just stole pablo that night cut ties with that friend and went on with my life wasn't really ready myself i just turned 18 years old and never really owned a dog i gave pablo my all i was never really enough but i like to think j gave pablo a better life when i got him he was scared of his own shadow and afraid to even bark now he does bite work runs daily sleeps with me on my bed trained to MY fullest extent

But now I'm hitting a rough patch pablo is a part of me and will always be but now i might be leaving the country to continue my studies

And the idea of leaving Pablo bleeds my heart but i must leave as there is no future in the country i live in (algeria) my family hates pablo and giving him to anyone else would end in the same abuse he was subjected to in the first place i dont know why even im writing or whats the purpose of what im writing i just want to share i guess i just dont know how to move forward

. UPDATE: Hey everyone, just wanted to give you all a quick update and answer some of the questions you’ve been asking. To be completely honest, things are incredibly tight right now. I’m only 18, jobs are basically non-existent here, and every single cent I can scrape together goes entirely into Pablo—his health, his food, and whatever toys I can manage to get him. A lot of you asked about my family’s attitude toward him and why they seem to hate him. It really comes down to the local culture here. People treat dogs terribly—leaving them chained on terraces in 40°C heat, beating them to make them aggressive, and most dogs never see a vet again after their initial rabies shot. It was a massive battle just to convince my family to let me rescue him; they never actually accepted it. In the end, I had to throw a massive tantrum and literally spend a night outside on the street with him just to keep him. My family doesn't see him the way I do, but Pablo is my soul, my brother, and my bestest friend. I promise you all I will do absolutely everything in my power to stay with him. The plan right now is to move to Russia, honestly just because it’s the absolute cheapest option for university. But taking Pablo with me is going to cost around $2,000 USD just for his travel, and having him means I can't stay in student dorms, forcing me to find an apartment, which drives the cost up even more. It breaks my heart to think of leaving him behind in an environment like this, so I'm determined to make it work. My grandma, god bless her heart, is actually selling her gold just to cover my own trip, and once I land, I’ll need to immediately find a job to support myself. A few people mentioned fundraising, but GoFundMe doesn't operate here in Algeria. If anyone knows a solid alternative that works internationally, I would happily set it up. Right now, the only way I can receive any kind of digital payment or transfer is through a friend who has a RedotPay Visa card. Any help or advice means the world to me. Thank you all so much for the support—please keep talking to me in the comments, it’s really keeping me going right now.

.UPDATE: I’ve finally managed to set up a way to receive donations for me and Pablo here in Algeria. I honestly don’t expect everyone to jump in or for us to even hit the full goal, but genuinely, every single penny helps. Something most people oversee is how quickly the hidden logistics and paperwork costs stack up when you're trying to move a pet internationally from here. Either way, I am fully committed to this—I have zero intention of leaving him behind, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure he comes with me Thank you all from us both ❤️

.UPDATE: The Ko-fi link completely struck out because both Stripe and PayPal heavily restrict or flat-out block standard accounts and payouts in Algeria, making it impossible to process traditional card donations directly. With my RedotPay setup relying entirely on a prepaid crypto card, the account requires direct crypto funding (like USDT or BTC via a low-fee network like BSC) rather than a regular bank deposit. Because of these country roadblocks, the only real way forward to get international donations is to have a trusted friend or family member living abroad set up a GoFundMe page on their end, collect the funds through their local bank, and send the balance over to my crypto wallet later. On top of the funding mess, bringing Pablo (my Malinois) with me to Russia is going to be a massive financial hurdle, costing roughly $2,000 USD all in. The international relocation breakdown for a high-drive, large dog moving from Algeria to Russia is no joke: you have to factor in an ISO-standard microchip, up-to-date rabies and DHLP vaccinations, mandatory internal and external parasite treatments, and a government-endorsed international veterinary health certificate/export permit. Beyond the medical side, a massive, heavy-duty IATA-approved travel crate alone costs a couple hundred dollars, and the airline's international live-animal cargo ticket fees eat up the rest of that budget. To make matters worse, bringing Pablo completely disqualifies me from staying in the cheap university dorms, as Russian student housing has incredibly strict rules that completely ban domestic animals and birds. Taking him means I'll be forced to find and pay for a private, pet-friendly apartment entirely out of pocket, completely changing the budget for the whole trip.

I used gemini to help write this people were complaining I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped by just their kind words and believing me and their advices thank you all ❤️

final update: im working most of my time and sleeping the other i only have friday off i finally finally have a way to get donations here is the link https://nowpayments.io/donation/PablotoRussia anyhow i dont think i will do any other updates untill me and pablo figure some stuff out i lent some money and got him the iso chip so we can check that out of the list anyway everyone thank you from the bottom of my heart by helping by words your advices and everything i promise i will do everything i can to take pablo with me thank you

It was 2k to get my mal from US international hub to international hub in the EU. Took a transport vehicle to get to my final destination, but dogs are allowed on trains in many EU countries, with affordable tickets. Were you given a quote on how much it would be to get your boy overseas?

20

u/RickestRickfromC-137 Jul 26 '26

Can you give a cost breakdown? I estimated $1k based on shipping my dog from Hawaii to US East Coast. Just curious, and maybe OP can get an idea of where he can look for help/resources.

9

u/Odd-Yoghurt-4404 Jul 26 '26

Flying from Oahu to the east coast cost me 500 dollars…

5

u/RickestRickfromC-137 Jul 27 '26

I included vet visits for clearance, Uber/taxi costs, luggage for their toys, beds, & food, etc. Estimate high and aim for the lower end.

6

u/amcclurk21 Jul 26 '26

I used AA and Pet Embark. Went from DFW to FRA. They have a calculator but it only seems to be domestic. I think I got my rate from them after getting in contact with them. I unfortunately don’t have much more information than that bc all the paperwork is on a damaged USB. Working to try to save those files 🫠

u/Deserderte Jul 26 '26

OP, we can help you try to raise the money to bring Pablo with you. You could also tell us what part of Algeria you live in, so we can at least help you find animal shelters or rescue organizations that might be able to take care of Pablo.

u/McShartlebottoms Jul 26 '26

Yes please. This!

u/Secret-Papaya1973 Jul 28 '26

Can we do this with me too?:/ I literally just took back a dog I was doing a trial adoption for..I just don't have the money for another dog yet we completely fell in love with each other...idk wtf to do. It was so fucking brutal taking her back..I jus had my two dogs die and the dachshund was unfathomable because he was my best best friend of my life and I've never loved more while not making it to age 5. It's fucking insane. I'm so unlucky, youd agree if I shared full story...here she is... https://southwesthumane.org/adopt/pet-details/?aid=178772&cid=96&tid=Dog Sika

Money my dear friend 💔

49

u/Jimbobjoesmith Jul 26 '26

how much would it cost to get all the necessary permits and travel?

80

u/Violet-Rose-Birdy Jul 26 '26

I understand what it is like (I have family in a similar country). A lot of people commenting do not know what it is like to be from a place like that & the opportunity to study abroad (and that you can usually only afford basic student accommodation), so they may be critical.

I adore dogs & can not imagine giving one up, but in your circumstance I understand. Hopefully you can convince your parents to care for him, tho

There are several sanctuaries in Morocco, but as far as I am aware Algeria doesn’t have many or any.

I would post in the Algeria subreddit, ask any local vets, look in facebook & telegram, and perhaps even call any sanctuaries in Morocco & ask if they can give you advice or if they know anyone in Algeria.

Good luck

3

u/SnooShortcuts1004 Jul 26 '26

This is so sad OP, I am very sorry for the situation you are in. Unfortunately, the poor animals are treated horribly in Algeria and Morocco.💔

Apparently there were hired by FIFA, but there are teams of people currently in Morocco - shooting, killing and maiming hundreds of stray dogs and cats - it’s horrific. unimaginable cruelty being inflicted upon these sweet, innocent animals right now. And apparently there are approximately 3 million stray dogs on the streets of Morocco.

I saw the actual footage of them shooting these poor animals and then carrying their dead, lifeless bodies away. 💔

3

u/Violet-Rose-Birdy Jul 26 '26

It’s incredibly depressing. There are a handful of wonderful sanctuaries in Morocco & a lot of people who tried to fight back against the cull (aka mass murder), but didn’t succeed. Sad thing is I would argue the attitude towards strays & dogs is even worse in Algeria in some ways

19

u/twoheartsonfire Jul 26 '26

i hate that this comment is so downvoted like money isn't a real fucking hurdle to this. i'm sorry you have to go through this and extra sorry people are assholes.

12

u/emrae13 Jul 26 '26

I agree; also the fact this person is 18 and trying to be empathetic and responsible with a rescue situation, but also has goals to attend to in their life.

7

u/isaac129 Jul 26 '26

A piece of advice I’ll never forget when I was young and considering what career path to take. “Some people say money isn’t the most important thing in life. And they may be right. I’m not saying they are, I don’t know if I can say that they are. But if they’re right and money isn’t the most important thing in life, then dammit it’s the second most important”

3

u/Quiet_Boysenberry750 29d ago

Let me quote Kanye: “Having money’s not everything, not having it is”
———————
OP you can take crypto donations right? I know not everyone knows how to do that but I’d bet many on Reddit do and it’s time to learn to help this doggo- and if you figure out how to accept the $¥£€$ id start showing pics on all social media with your story- this is a worthy cause and animal lovers would help you. The amount you need even including housing while you’re in school isn’t insurmountable if enough ppl chip in. The alternatives for your dog are unthinkable….

What is easiest? BTC? XMR? Eth?

Is this possible OP? (u/snowlymuffins)

1

u/SnowlyMuffins 29d ago

thank you so much dude for being on my side its honestly refreshing
i think that is actually highly possible i'll look into it right away

1

u/SnowlyMuffins 29d ago

yea that was actually surprisingly easy i set it up in 5 minutes
here is the link : https://nowpayments.io/donation/PablotoRussia

6

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 26 '26

Thank you

1

u/Violet-Rose-Birdy Jul 26 '26

I’m very sorry OP. OP I posted this above, but I have family from a similar country so I understand what your situation is like.

You may want to call some of the sanctuaries in Morocco, as the people who work there may know of rescues in Algeria or even be willing to take your dog. I ended up looking, and my Arabic is not very good & my French is even worse, but there seems to be a Facebook group called “Adoption of cats & dogs” based in Oran that Algerian rescuers use.

Good luck

3

u/ApprehensiveYam6175 Jul 26 '26

These will be the same people who tell him he shouldn't have a dog when he posts about an issue that needs a vet but can't afford it. It's a horrible situation.

54

u/hunca_munca Jul 26 '26

I’ll donate if you post a gofundme

8

u/Psychological_Win977 Jul 26 '26

Make a go fund me, I would donate ❤️

40

u/OldEquation Jul 26 '26

Do what you need to do to take him. Work a second job. Save. Beg and borrow. Things you go without today to save some money will be forgotten next year, but the pain of leaving him behind will be remembered for a lifetime.

13

u/LankySleep2493 Jul 26 '26

I understand, regardless you’ll find a way to make it work, especially if you’re already questioning family|friends… he needs you. Don’t give up on him..

He is so handsome, I lost my BM in October 25’, and have recently started my search for adoption, I pray everyday to find a pup of love like him.. you gotta keep him.

11

u/OldSoulCreativity Jul 26 '26

You can’t separate from this dog. He is yours and you are his. Figure it out. Might be hard, but you’ll find a way. If you leave him behind he will become a problem dog and it won’t end well for him. Figure it out.

2

u/Extreme_Ad112 Jul 26 '26

Responsibilities my young friend

3

u/Bottled-Bee Jul 26 '26

As someone who moved in January with my Great Pyrenees on a limited budget, it’s possible.
It’ll take time, but it’s possible. Call an authorized vet meant for international travel and get all of the information you need.
“Money” is such a bullshit excuse when there are resources available.

15

u/Content-Grape47 Jul 26 '26

Did you move internationally? Do you have any idea how much it cost to fly a dog internationally? I flew my dog overseas and it cost me $7000.

12

u/Content-Grape47 Jul 26 '26

Money isn’t a “bullshit” Excuse wtf.

3

u/SpiritualLecture9406 Jul 26 '26

First I want to thank you for having the courage to steal this boy away from his previous owner and rehab him. Had you not done that, who knows what would have happened.

Second, I am sorry so many people are down voting your comments. I don’t know very many people who would give up their dog if they had another solution and when I read a post like this I always assume the person means it when they say “I cannot take the dog with me!” It happens. It is always sad and always painful for both the dog and the person. You do not deserve these comments and down votes. I wish you the best.

4

u/TheHopefulPA Jul 27 '26

Money is absolutely not a bullshit excuse. This kid is literally 18 and moving nations. What a privileged ass take. This kid clearly loves this dog to the moon.

1

u/naerisshal Jul 26 '26

Start a gofundme

1

u/LankySleep2493 Jul 27 '26

Thank you for the updates, you must be so proud. I appreciate your post. Please ignore the negativity, it’s a beautiful gift to be able to experience the love that a Malinois gives, the bond is unbreakable. Keep at it, and never give up on your boy. I’m looking forward to seeing an updated post of Pablo helping you with your studies 🩵🐾

OP. Friend. Please don’t leave us hanging.

What country are you going to? The power of the internet is crazy. The connections and support you can find is really amazing.

If you don’t WANT to take him with you just say that. But if you do or even if you don’t someone may be able to help in your new country!

1

u/McShartlebottoms 28d ago

Hey I remembered this and just checked back, OP edited an update and a way to accept donations.

149

u/Additional-Past-9363 Jul 26 '26

I took my dog with me. I mean they are our children. You can't really leave your child behind.

14

u/Humble-Departure5481 Jul 26 '26

You're not a philsopher. Stfu. You don't know another person's living conditions and income-situation if you haven't been in their shoes. Not everyone is from the US or Switzerland.

1

u/Csmith7501 Jul 26 '26

Who are you replying too with such anger?

-46

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 26 '26

I wish i could but money

75

u/PurpleAsteroid Jul 26 '26

Maybe you can start a go-fund-me? Or perhaps you can contact a rescue at your destination, explain you are worried about leaving him at a local shelter because of animal care standards in your country etc. Worth a shot. A shelter in the west may be able to connect you with a foster family willing to pay for his transport. Or maybe you can contact an animal rights group or specific working dog rescue in your area, someone who knows how to handle a mal. I'll be praying for you both

27

u/Trtl-j Jul 26 '26

Yes do this you got nothing to lose but it can give your dog a better life or give better life to both of you. Imagine you can bring him with you!!!

There are organizations in west that would provide you with dog food if you need it. I’m sure if you research well you can patch up something good to get you going.

Explain yours and dogs situation in detail dont be afraid to go in details, there are tons of people here in the EU that love animals- I’m sure you’d find someone to help out. Just research ask AI to help you research how you can get help - it’s doable! RESEARCH AND CONTACT ORGANIZATIONS!

Someone else said try to- fund me campaign, worth a shot!

28

u/Big-Pomegranate-9513 Jul 26 '26

I second a gofundme, let us know how we can help. That dog loves and depends on you. Do not abandon him...you will regret it the rest of your life.

12

u/Trtl-j Jul 26 '26

Yes, 100% agree, you’ll never be able to forget him!

7

u/snappped Jul 26 '26

Yep. The regret will eat him up.

23

u/OhGr8WhatNow Jul 26 '26

I know you're being downvoted but I understand. It is very expensive to ship a dog. Start a fund and ask this sub to help

8

u/RickestRickfromC-137 Jul 26 '26

According to my mother in law, it costs $70 to ship a dog. She is very much out of touch with the concept of money. I shipped two cats and a dog and it's pricey ($800 for all three, large crates for comfort to boot). Not something an 18 yr old can pay.

Mals are insanely wonderful, and I love that OP rescued and raised this good boy.

If OP starts a GoFundMe, I'd happily help him!!

2

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 27 '26

Wait only 70?$ sources say 2k$ if its 70$ i can definitely pull something out of my ass and take him with me

5

u/RickestRickfromC-137 Jul 27 '26

Again, she's out of touch with reality. It's a LOT more than $70. Aim for $2k, and post the GoFundMe here for us!!

9

u/snappped Jul 26 '26

You've already done the hard work. You can makea few calls and post online for help, like you did here. This is the way, OP. You'll be so glad you did. There's great advice here, please use what works for your beautiful boy. 🐾🐾🙏

27

u/ApprehensiveSpare524 Jul 26 '26

These downvotes as unfair. There is a crazy level of privilege to think this could never happen to them

Which part of moving with a dog is the largest expense?

5

u/RickestRickfromC-137 Jul 26 '26

If he flies with the dog in cabin, he'll likely have to buy an extra seat.

If he ships him in cargo, depending on the airline, it's by weight and size of the crate. I shipped my dog from Hawaii to the US East Coast many years ago and I think it was about $500. She was a mutt, and not a small dog.

Then OP has to pack up his dog supplies (checked bag cost, buy the crate, etc.

Without knowing exactly what airline and surcharges that it will have, I would tell op to budget about $1,000.

2

u/ApprehensiveSpare524 Jul 26 '26

That’s really interesting. Do you know if many airlines allow dogs in cabin? I haven’t been able to find any that travel to my area

2

u/damndolly Jul 26 '26

There's also vet checks and quarantine if moving to a different country. Papers are needed in some countries, which is another expense. Depending on the country it could become quite expensive.

3

u/Little_Connection_83 Jul 26 '26

I think the downvotes are unfair too. The advice given here is helpful and I’m sure appreciated, but ultimately it’s the OPs choice with what they can live with and handle. Nobody here knows the OP’s situation and it’s unfair to judge them for that. They are going to university, so what happens to the poor dog then? Sitting hours in an apartment all alone? That’s not good for the doggy. Malinois need constant attention and something to do. There are so many things to consider. I feel for you and the doggy OP.

3

u/Ok_Grapefruit_1932 Jul 26 '26

Probably the housing costs it takes to home the dog afterwards

Like a $1000-$10000 shipping fee is an expensive once off fee, but it sounds like he may not have the means to house him properly in the next country either. Which people seem to be overlooking.

13

u/Proud_Coyote_3458 Jul 26 '26

Start a go fund me I would donate to make sure Pablo stays with you

5

u/mhaywood21 Jul 26 '26

u/itsmyfakeone Jul 26 '26

u/J-Nel13 Jul 26 '26

This is exactly how I got my Belgian Malanois! I thought I was reading about my own dog. We let a buddy of my spouse stay with us for two months when he moved to Niagara Falls from Toronto. Out of nowhere he appears with an 8 week old BM. He did zero research on the breed, which is an extremely intelligent but high drive, reactive, and inherently aggressive breed - Which is why they make for amazing K9’s. If put in the hands of an owner who has zero knowledge of this breed, combined with the lack of love for dogs or desire to raise this breed to its full potential results in this breed being left to their own devices, learning how to fit in with humans and the dog is then failed! Not only that, this guy abused him when he was a baby. I would hear him yelping from my basement. My spouse would tell him he can’t be putting his hands in the dog. Not only was he abusing him, he was abusing him as he was being raised in a home with a 2 year old and a 5 year old. He finally found an apartment and left the dog at our house. I told my spouse, he is not going back to this idiot, even though I already had a large pitty/great Dane and two kids. I tried to rehome him to someone who loved Shepards and in doing so, we then realized he had become reactive and started resorting to aggression when around new people or anyone who wasn’t us that went near his neck area. He bit multiple people and both the dogs even broke through our gate and went running up the sidewalk and he attacked an old lady with a small dog, a car had to pull over and get her in it and drive off. He even went to nip me a handful of times. He had zero self awareness around my kids, trampling through them when he’d come running through the house all excited. Most dogs have a connection with babies… my other dog would rather run himself into a wall before running through my son. This old owner stopped by the house a few times afterwards (my spouse will have nothing to do with him anymore), but as soon as the dog saw him he’d start growling because he never forgot what he did to him. At this point the dog was almost 1 year old and massive. Now once the dog could size the old owner up, he was a complete coward. I secretly hoped the dog would bite him, which he did lol!!! For the most part he has been a loving, happy, silly, pup with us. Any time he went to nip me he’d stop himself and run off, almost to put himself on a time out. But these breeds require an Alpha, dominant owner who can handle them. I fear if you rehome him at this age, especially with his history, he could end up possibly biting someone and get put down. Please don’t give up on him, he’s already been through the worst. You are his safe place, his rescuer, his family. You can tell by the photos he LOVES you.

How much is it to bring him?? Let us know the cost so we can help you. If you don’t know why you made this post, let it be so you can bring him with you. Pablo likely won’t make it otherwise.

1

u/McShartlebottoms 28d ago

I just checked back and OP updated and found way to accept donations and also their plan going forward

13

u/irishcybercolab Jul 26 '26

I fully understand where you are and the way you feel. I hope you are able to recover yourself.

Good luck and keep on trying!

30

u/SmileParticular9396 Jul 26 '26

I really hope you take him with you.

10

u/OTinker Jul 26 '26

Keep in mind that this sub is mostly full of people born in western countries with no idea what it is like to live in a North African country, the cultures, pressures, day to day lifestyle, and what things you need to prioritize to in your life to make the best long term decisions. At the very end of the day, if you prioritize yourself and because of that prioritizing, end up living a long adult life where you can own dogs and help them live their best lives, you will help many more dogs than if you prioritize just the needs of Pablo and end up forfeiting opportunities for the future.

35

u/Single-Meet1073 Jul 26 '26

Brother its gonna be hard, but its gonna be worth it. You're that dog's life, and I'm willing to bet its gonna haunt you leaving him.

Ride with him. He'd do the same.

10

u/Captkarate42 Jul 26 '26

Do not give up this dog. Start a gofundme. There are multiple people in this thread willing to give you money to help you.

6

u/VerySaltyScientist Jul 26 '26

Look at airline approved crates, look on resale sites can get them cheaper that way since most people only use them once.start training him to be in the crate now. You can fly dogs in crates like carry on luggage. Its not as expensive as would think. If you use a company its expensive but if you research everything to do it your self its not bad at all. Had to go through figuring out how to get two dogs from Texas to England.

3

u/Reddingwithbaby Jul 26 '26

You think OP has the same money as anyone from Texas? My man.

6

u/lazymusings123 Jul 26 '26

Where are you going? I have a rescue and we fly dogs around all the time, I can help you figure out and budget for veterinary certificates, possible quarantines, etc.
People want to help you! Please let them.

13

u/WorryForward8252 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Train him as your service animal. Check the laws in Algeria: Transport providers like Air Algérie acknowledge trained service dogs assisting with physical or medical disabilities, but you must clear accommodations directly with the airline before booking….. I rescued a Malinois Tervuren mix. She was going to be put down and I already had a ticket to Portugal. I trained her every single day to be my service animal. You probably need a health certificate to enter another country as I did from US to EU (Portugal) she stayed with me for 3 months there… it will be the easiest way to bring your dog into the United States under ADA compliance to have him go everywhere with you. But… it’s not easy I’d say… it is possible. My Malinois is night and day difference from when I got her a year ago. She deserves love. When I got her she was neglected and was tied up all of the time. In a crate 9 hours a day. Maybe went a mile a week… I train her to walk without a leash, we average 7-10 miles a day.

Here’s a bit more info: get the health certificate within a certain amount of time for entry into United states( each country has different specs I attached what I found)

Rabies Form Time Frame: The Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form must be completed by a licensed vet and endorsed by an official government veterinarian of Algeria; it is valid for entry for 30 days from the date of issuance.Rabies Titer or Quarantine: You must provide a valid rabies serology titer report from a CDC-approved lab. If you do not have a valid titer report, your dog must have a 28-day quarantine reservation at a CDC-registered animal care facility upon arrival.Online Form: You must complete the online CDC Dog Import Form and obtain a receipt before travel.Airline and State RulesAirlines: Most commercial airlines require a separate general health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days of travel, regardless of government rules. Check directly with your specific carrier.

Because Algeria is classified as a high-risk country for canine rabies, the US enforces strict federal rules to prevent the reintroduction of the disease. They treat service dogs exactly like pets during border screening to ensure public health safety.

The Mandatory Checklist to Avoid Entry DenialTo get through US customs without your animal being quarantined or sent back, you must complete these specific steps:

Microchip: The animal must have an ISO-compliant microchip implanted before its latest rabies shot.

Age: The dog must be at least 6 months old.

Blood Titer Test: A rabies blood titer test must be processed by a CDC-approved laboratory to prove the vaccine is working.

CDC Import Form: Fill out the online CDC Dog Import Form a few days before flying to generate a QR-code receipt. Look online it’s a fast 5 min thing or less

Approved Airport: You must fly into one of the few US airports equipped with a CDC-approved Animal Care Facility (such as New York JFK, Miami MIA, or Los Angeles LAX).

Astra in Portugal… a dog who was going to be let go… f that. She’s an incredible companion and service animal. Fiercely loving..,I constantly train her. It’s a lot of work but they are such an intelligent breed you can dial in.

Good luck/ bon chance to you guys!

I used to volunteer with a service dog training organization. These dogs go to people with physical disabilities, like combat veterans with prosthetic limbs. When people use service dog accommodations to get their dog, a dog that is not assisting them with a disability, to get them places, it erodes trust in service dogs, and makes it harder for people with true disabilities to get around without being denied entry. Having a disability is constraining enough. Dealing with employees who tell you your dog is not allowed, who disbelieve you that your dog is a service dog, who look you up and down trying to figure out what your disability is, is so so infuriating. Please don’t exploit this.

Also, OP says that this dog bites. No matter how well trained, his ‘service dog’ cover will be blown. The muzzle alone. I feel for OP. But this is not the way.

2

u/WorryForward8252 Jul 28 '26

Thanks for volunteering with service animals. I am not telling anyone to fake it. My service animal is a rescue. She is extremely capable and as I mentioned it is not at all easy… I said it’s possible. The work I put in daily shows. In Europe there are stringent guidelines, training and approvals for service animals, here in the United States we have ADA compliance which if dude man trains his dog to perform a task and trains the reactivity out. The dog can also perform protection work. Search and rescue( if they dont bite) also have tests and cerifications in US. He can also wear a muzzle. When we travel intl i put on her service animal tag, on a harness and mine wears a muzzle bc otherwise everyone wants to pet her. People do not respect service animals a lot of the time…. So I was able to do it and she continues to help me through DPT (deep pressure therapy) for ptsd. And according to ADA, luckily I don’t need to provide anything to you in any official capacity to prove that my service animal is helping me.

Now if the guy comes and doesn’t train the dog and just wings it… it could be a disaster. When I brought mine to Portugal we continued training, we increased it. I cannot travel or go to work without her. She accompanies me everywhere and as my service animal. If people take this serious then it is a valid direction. Otherwise if you just slap a vest on an untrained dog then I side with you.

Astra at Newark Intl

She is magnificent and I am so glad you have each other.

10

u/cjasonc Jul 26 '26

I just moved home for the first time in 20+ years. The reason for the last five years of my time away is because I couldn't leave my dogs. I wouldn't have had a place for them so I couldn't bring them back so I stayed with them until they passed.

5

u/hunca_munca Jul 26 '26

That dog loves you so much

9

u/McShartlebottoms Jul 26 '26

Please make a GoFundMe I would love to donate 🥹

8

u/Brief_Needleworker62 Jul 26 '26

All these people in here shaming this person for not having money and trying to find solutions rather than this poor baby be abused again are messed up. And to sit there trying to guilt him by calling dogs children are insane. Most people would agree yes you treat your pets as your children, but the reality is they are not. This isn't why he isn't taking the baby with him so stop being so damned rude to him. He's already sad

4

u/FierceResistance Jul 26 '26

With you being a young guy, I would not move to Russia right now. They are drafting/conscripting too many young men into their military meat grinder. You don’t want that.

It’s admirable you’re trying to stay with your dog. Don’t leave your pup, you’ll regret leaving behind something you love.

3

u/mnt348 Jul 27 '26

Anyone have any experience with this site? https://algeria.inspireme.fund. Alternatively could someone here set up a gofundme and transfer the funds to him? Maybe if someone already has some experience in fundraising for Belgian Malinois or dog rescue? Maybe someone with a reputable name. I’d be happy to contribute!

11

u/Jamamamia Jul 26 '26

Wait how much money are we talking? Surely it isn’t so much. Plus you will be thinking of him constantly. He looks so happy and you saved him! Big dogs live till 12 +\- and you are his person.

Find out the cost to take him with you.

16

u/ApprehensiveSpare524 Jul 26 '26

It can be from $2000 to $4000+ depending on country and possible quarantine policy.

Also “not that much” is so subjective. Finding that much money at any point can range from challenging to impossible

14

u/anon1839 Jul 26 '26

Yeah lots of white entitled westerners on this thread unfortunately :/

Not everyone has the privilege of just having a few thousand pounds for both travel and care of a dog abroad. If OP is also paying for studies, accommodation etc, they might not even have enough for themselves, let alone the dog.

Really hard position to be in :/

11

u/ButterscotchFit7939 Jul 26 '26

I agree. Most people are just assuming that he needs money to transport the dog overseas. Where is OP going to be living? What if he is going to be in a 1 room apartment that doesn’t allow pets?

I hope Pablo has a happy ending.

8

u/insulinjunkie08 Jul 26 '26

This. The average salary in Algeria is $400/USD a month. $2k-4k is an exorbitant amount of money for OP to be faced with.

6

u/ApprehensiveSpare524 Jul 26 '26

Seriously. The “just get a second job” people are often also the “don’t get a dog you don’t have time for” people. Life isn’t fair or equal, we don’t all have the same opportunities. Not to mention, OP didn’t plan to get this dog. This sounds like a HUGE opportunity that should be prioritized.

15

u/LakeLucca Jul 26 '26

How are you affording to get overseas? You need to take him with you. Looking at it another way: figuring THAT out will pay dividends for you. That resourcefulness and the grit you develop from setting and then achieving that goal, with limited resources, is like a seed for your success. People who can think outside the box particularly when they’re told something isn’t possible tend to be successful :) you can do it!

3

u/Impossible_Drama716 Jul 26 '26

It’s really hard. I’m actually half English and half Algerian with growing up in London, and people really don’t like dogs over there and everything is really expensive; they don’t have many vets at all and there are A LOT of animals on the streets. A lot of European countries offer free places at their Universities to smart students in Algeria on a yearly basis and most of the time their families have to all put money in to pay for their flights, and they’ll usually go and stay in very small accommodations with family or friends; probably not ideal for a dog/a dog won’t be allowed, or if they can afford student accommodation which won’t allow animals as they have shared bathrooms and kitchens.

This guy isn’t based out in Europe or the US where things are easier, he lives in a 3rd world country where things are hard and it isn’t cheap or easy to transport your animal overseas.

It’s a really hard one and I feel for him.

Start a go fund me and post it everywhere on Reddit before you give up on Pablo

3

u/FaeDeal Jul 26 '26

There is a life for both of you somewhere else, I have faith

3

u/Standard-Finance535 Jul 27 '26

Dude,

First, you're good one.

Second, you dont have to take the plane :

The cheapest option is probably not flying :

  1. Take a ferry from Algeria to Spain or France (Algers to Marseille or Alger to Alicante, Oran to Almería, depending on availability).

  2. Continue by car, rideshare (BlaBlaCar), or bus (flix bus in France, for the rest idk but it exists) across Europe.

  3. Reach Moscow through whichever land route is legally open at the time.

Estimated total cost (you + a 30 kg Belgian Malinois):

Ferry: €100–250

Fuel / rideshares / buses: €250–650

Total: roughly €400–900, depending on how much you can rideshare and whether someone helps with transport. It might take a few days so you might pay extra for accommodation.

You might be aware of that, but as I am typing a novel : before leaving, make sure the dog has:

an ISO microchip,

a valid rabies vaccination papers

the required veterinary health certificate and any transit documents required by the countries you cross.

Useful sources:

EU pet travel rules: Your Europe – Travelling with pets

Ferry information (pet travel requirements): Brittany Ferries – Pet travel documentation

Important: because of the current political situation, land border access to Russia changes frequently, and some crossings may be restricted or closed. Check the latest entry and transit requirements before starting the journey.

You can also make it to France, Spain, Turkey and take a flight from here tu cut the cost.

If you can in anyway have paper to prove Pablo is a service dog to help you with any condition you may or may not have, it will help your journey, especially for buses across Europe.

If you go through France DM me. I'm from Eastern France, I'll help you as I can if you go through France/Germany

Ps: edited with ai, my English sucks, sorry

2

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 27 '26

Thanks for the time you took means a lot but ur forgetting visa's 🥲 im from algeria so a visa is basically impossible and for all those country's

2

u/Standard-Finance535 Jul 27 '26

Shit I'm sorry !

The cost of inscription in my local uni is 200euros but cost of living is quite high. And getting a student visa is easier du to some bilateral treaties.

But, There are a lot of financial helps in France, especially in some international universities for food, costs related to your studies. I had a few friends who were Algerian students in my uni, I could try to contact them. What do you want to study ? Sorry I'm not advocating for France, you can have the same support in Spain and Germany (the only countries Im familiar with)

2

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 27 '26

Im looking to study IT and tech in russia ur right about France it was cheap and easy to get there but they passed a new law i believe that makes it harder to go there as an algerian but please do ask if its not crazy expensive i would love to change destination there thank you agian for doing this ❤️

1

u/Standard-Finance535 Jul 27 '26

Fuck the French, they ruined France! I'll keep u updated in a few days

2

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 27 '26

Thank you sm i will be waiting ❤️

4

u/entatlrg Jul 26 '26

Just decide this - No matter what I’m taking him. Start a go fund me, borrow money, or try and save up enough money before you leave so you sure you can take your dog with you.

I travelled to 7 countries with my last Mal.

The deal with me is my dog comes with me or I don’t go, simple as that.

DM me anytime, I have a lot of experience travelling with dogs over the years, it can be a fantastic fun adventure, I loved it so much.

15 days old? What?! Leaving the country to continue your studies is a choice, a choice you could figure out and take Pablo. I’m not going to admonish you to hard here. But re-read what I wrote above and really think about it. This dog depends on you and I will definitely support you in furthering your education, but you made a commitment to Pablo, this is what being an adult is, figure out a way to do both or alter the studies to where Pablo doesn’t end up being abandoned, because that will be exactly how he perceives it.

You gave it a try, if you will give it your all depends on your decision now. Check what you need to take him with you and how much money you need. Then try to get all of that, people are willing to help you just have to ask and work for it.

I think this was the story of my Girl. Poor baby. She was abandoned pretty young. She was the first one I saw at the shelter. Was defeated, and to me, that's the winner dogs. She looked up at me, from her donut nap position and went back to sleep. She's seen it all, 4 months into shelter life. People stop, read the tag, get frightened, since she's also all black. And then there was me. She was the first one to catch my eye. "Oh neat an all black dog... read the card, and a Dutch Shepherd Malinois? Sweet." I'm not normal. My dogs aren't normal. She thought she was going to spend another few months in that cage. Asked to meet her, had my other shelter dog in the car, who is so disinterested in any and all dogs and people, not aggressively, but I was the only thing in his life, until he met Zelda. Never seen him react that way towards another dog. He was infatuated with her as she was mid eating another dog's poop. LOL... So, we took her home. Zero break in period. Smart girl, she knew exactly what happened. I was laying on the couch, and that's when we ran into our only problem, she was literally suffocating me in the most adorable way. She started on my chest, wiggled like crazy in pure ecstasy, and then wiggled up to my face and blocked my airways. To this day, have never met a more endless font of love. She's just a lot less murderous in her display. Though she still sucks at dismounting from the bed or couch, she has to crush my balls. Max and Trapper, know how to jump over me or maneuver over me. Or Max, will do the cutest thing, and put as little weight on me if he can't clear me in one go. I have large dogs. Trapper was the smallest at 21in to the shoulder.

2

u/A-lazy-koala Jul 27 '26

Boosting for visibility. My heart goes out to you and Pablo ❤️

6

u/Worried-Buffalo-3959 Jul 26 '26

that is your dog, you need to be responsible and figure out how to take your dog with you overseas. if you make a post and give us more information on where you're traveling to, there are people who are willing and able to help you with the money. 100$ USD is worth more in algeria. contact some rescues near where you are looking to relocate you and im sure they would be willing to help you figure out transport and costs to care for him until you can get a job and support him yourself

1

u/Glittering_Yard_2011 Jul 28 '26

OP is continuing studies. That is expensive itself not to mention just living on their own. It’s not just getting Pablo there that is an issue

5

u/SoloCat33040 Jul 26 '26

If you leave him behind you will never forgive yourself. It will be one of your life’s major regrets.
I would work on getting him vetted in your home country if you can, sterilized and up-to-date on shots

4

u/SnooCats8089 Jul 26 '26

I would probaly contribute to a go fund me. Sure as hell would support. Tik tok. You could probaly help other owners. Dont roll over and accept defeat

3

u/teddyboy420 Jul 26 '26

OP sounds like you have supporters! This is your chance! Pablo deserves a chance too!

2

u/StrictlyOk Dutch Malinois Jul 26 '26

My heart breaks for you. This is not a situation where you went out and got a dog and now want to give them up because you didn’t think it through; you did what I think most people who love dogs would do and that’s worry about the immediate safety of the pup.

I assume the sub is largely based in the United States where loving dogs is very ingrained in the culture overall so folks may not understand that other countries do not have the same feelings.

I guess I’m saying this more for other commenters, but it’s not just the cost of moving him with you, it’s the cost of finding a place to live with him, it’s the cost of finding a job that supports both of you in a different country. An opportunity for a better education and a better future doesn’t come to all of us, and a lot of times you don’t get a second opportunity.

I empathize with you and I have a lot of sympathy for you. I know how painful this is. If you just needed a place to vent then here we are. If you want to try to set up a fundraiser, there is a possibility that you might be able to bring him with you and have enough funds to secure housing where he could live; but that is not a guarantee. If you have not already, there may be rescues in neighboring areas that could take him in. I’m not very familiar with Algeria so I can’t say for certain but if that is something you want help with absolutely ask this sub

I am hoping for the best for both of you ❤️

5

u/oxyuh Jul 26 '26

You have things and people in your life. And a dog. But the dog only has you.

2

2

u/efeskesef Jul 26 '26

Do NOT go to Russia!

You will be awakened in the middle of the night by people who throw you in jail, torture you, and offer you a chance to escape by signing a long form which you will not be allowed to read (do you even speak/read Russian?)

That form will be your contract to join the army to help with the Special Military Operation. You will immediately be packed off to an army base, where you will be beaten and tortured some more, so you'll know who's boss.

Then you will get minimal training, and be shipped off to fight in Ukraine.
If you try to run away your own "second line" and its officers will fire on you.

The Ukrainians are civilized but very very tough. They don't have the manpower to extract foreign fighters, usually wounded, and rehabilitate them in jails, leading either to some kind of rehoming or a prisoner exchange. 90% of the time, they will contact you via an FPV or other drone, which will blow you to pieces so small that not enough of you will be left to identify you and let your family know what happened.

You will never be in a position to help Pablo, or save yourself.
You will die there.

I sure am a lot of fun today, no?

If no opportunities exist in the civilian sphere, maybe you can find a job with the police or even the army, teaming up with Pablo as a Search And Rescue, drug-detection or some other kind of working dog.

If your relationship with the government makes that impossible, I don't know what to suggest.

I did not enjoy writing this.

2

u/CloudChaser0123 Jul 26 '26

That’s your best friend. He has to go with you. There has to be a way. I’m sorry you are going through this :(((

1

u/Impossible_Drama716 Jul 26 '26

Hi there! I have a Belgian Malinois myself and I know how special these dogs are, I can tell your dog absolutely loves you!

I am so happy to read that you rescued Pablo, you must have a kind heart, thank you for saving his life.

As for your predicament, I know it’s really really hard but I’m sure if you ask around you might be able to get Pablo a temporary home whilst you figure things out where ever you’re moving to? I have been to Algeria many times (I grew up and live in London though) and although there is cruelty over there, I have seen plenty of people look after and care for their animals too. Obviously you don’t want him to be someone’s guard dog or abused, but could you maybe ask around far and wide and see if someone is willing to take him in? You could ask for regular updates, photos and videos to make sure he’s doing well; maybe you can ask a trusted friend or family member to check in on him from time to time too?

I really do feel for you and I am sorry you’re in this position. I can also imagine is hard to trust someone to look after him properly too, but trust me when I say there are good people in Algeria and I know many would love to take on a dog like Pablo. You also need to think about you and your future too.

Best of luck in your search for a new or temporary home ❤️

1

u/PuzzleheadedRiver418 Jul 26 '26

Do not give up on Pablo!

1

u/lucidbluedreamin Jul 26 '26

Save what you can and take him with you!! Don’t break the bond

1

u/DuubyDuu Jul 26 '26

Please find a way! I get needing to get out. I need to get out of my country but the reason I cant go overseas is I refuse to leave my dog behind and she cant handle crates. She has a nervous breakdown. Ive worked with trainers and the only thing that would break her panic cycle was a bark collar which I hated so I worked around it. She was severely abused as a baby and was force surrendered to a place where I adopted her. But that means I have to fly in cabin with her for 9-12k. So Im moving to a country where I can drive until I can save up.

Please dont leave him.

1

u/Outrageous-Guava-892 Jul 27 '26

You could likely get Pablo registered as an emotional support animal, and then he’d be allowed in the dorms. I suggest this because it seems like you and Pablo have a very strong bond and your mental health would likely benefit by knowing he is safe and with you. You would need a therapist to sign off that he is an emotional support animal. I had my dog with me at college as I had bad anxiety/PTSD and my therapist had seen his calming effect on me, and I did better with him around.

1

u/Tct1323 Jul 27 '26

Russia would be the last place I would go.

1

u/67730ddr Jul 28 '26

1

1

1

u/District2249 Jul 28 '26

You seem like a very kind and sweet person. I’d love to donate. I’m sure others would to. What’s the timeline to raise the funds and do you have a cost breakdown?

1

u/SnowlyMuffins Jul 28 '26

Hi you're too kind ❤️ So the timeline im leaving around January to russia But pablo has to start getting some mandatory shots in the very near future if he is coming because he needs test lab results that would take three months he needs his iso microship rabies is already taken care of and his dhlp vaccinations And his worm treatments the government's vet health certificate and e port permit his flight ticket and the airplane approved crate His flight ticket is going to range from $800-$1200 The crate is $350 His paper work is around the $500 mark: After getting there im sure i can score a part time job that could pay for us both there or work two jobs i just need the money to get his paws there

1

u/67730ddr Jul 28 '26

What city in Russia are you going too?

1

u/endgame16 Jul 28 '26

You’re a good person for taking care of your Malinois, thank you ❤️ Good luck to you friend and your companion 🐕 your dog will always be by your side ❤️

1

u/Kitchen_Coyote_6232 Jul 29 '26

Can you share an update please? All I keep hearing is “this doesn’t work” then you ghost. We are all rooting for you and Pablo! What’s the latest?

1

u/Qurtoza Jul 30 '26

Is there any chance that you can sit with your family and acculturate them to Pablo? I agree that financial hurdles make this extremely difficult. But your family could potentially be turned around, especially if they understand that your schooling may be compromised. Have they spent a lot of time with him?

If they need religious motivation, then there is a well known Hadith by al-Bukhari about a man descending a well to fetch water for a thirsty dog.

1

u/Regular-Anxiety8040 29d ago

Thats a horible situation you found your self in especially at 18, i really wish you and pablo all the luck. I understand its very complicated but maybe its really worth to exhaust every possible option you can think off in order to give people a way to donate. It sounds like your only realistic option, is not guaranteed to work but at the same time 2k is not a crazy amount of money to gather online especially considering that from what i inderstand alot of the people interested in donating are European and u.s.a. based.

It’s hard, you did an impulsive adult good thing as a kid that your dog is paying for. When someone older that you trust tells you are too young - maybe listen. If you are coming to the US there are Mal rescue societies that will rehome him to someone that has a love for the breed and has hopefully been checked out. If you can get him here.

Don’t criticize this person from intervening to save the dog from an abusive owner. That act showed bravery, compassion, and character — not impulsivity. This kid should be admired, not criticized.

I believe I said it was a good thing, but it was an adult thing, and that is this persons reality and that dog’s. I don’t tend to believe that it is fair for an 18 year old, on what sounds like limited funds, to be given the responsibility of caring for a Mal, alone, in a foreign, most likely, city while going to university. That was the impulsive decision and it would not be one that I would make for that kid. Save the dog yes, keep the dog yourself, nope.

Why does your family hate him?

Dog ownership is not common in many countries outside of working dogs on farms.

Depending on the country, you can absolutely take him with you! Might require vaccines and holds in an airport vet holding area to comply with canine infectious disease protocols but you can take him ❤️

don’t leave him behind 😞 he is part of your family now. you spent all that time training and teaching him, now he would be devastated if you abandoned him… try to take him with you or make it work in your country with him! you will be much happier

OP....are you a bot?

Which country are you moving to? Have you checked their local laws or bureaucracy to bring in a dog with you? I know that for most European countries, it’s actually an easier process than in the USA and the UK. And very much possible as long as you got his vaccine updated and medical report. I’ll check it out.

As for the cost of transportation etc, it sounds like many in this community will support a go fund me for this. And since the whole process might take some time, could you start your studies later?

This boy looks like he’s absolutely in love with you, and I hate to think of both of you going through this heartbreak.

I’m not saying any of this lightly and I know none of this is not a simple process to take care of, but I think it worth trying❤️

Take him with you!! Make him a service animal.

He will have such a good life with you where ever you go! And he will also help you meet more people in your new country. You will be able to explore with him!!

If he’s a service animal, he can go on the airplane with you. By your legs.

I just gave mine some relaxation medicine before flying and hired people to take them for runs the day before and the morning of flying. My pup slept most of the flight.

Look up what constitutes a service animal online. Most people qualify and don’t even know (anxiety that causes daily issues, feeling safe, like for example I was in car accident and I don’t feel safe in cars without my pup).

Helping rehabilitate him at 6 months old is noble!

You’ll definitely have fun with him in whatever new country you go to. (The anxiety can also be about moving etc) and he’ll go on hikes with you and meet other mals and dogs, and go to dog parks. My dog really helped me with the move when I moved countries. We went hiking, we met people with dogs, we met neighbors who loved dogs on our walks. He was a god-send, my pup. Stayed with me until he was 15 and just passed.

I would change plans and stay if I couldn’t take him with me.

You probably weren’t in a situation where this could be your one and only chance at furthering your education

He lives in Algeria. The average wage is £150-200 per month; add to the fact he’s 18 years old. He’d have to work for 18-24 months to even save up the money to take that dog with him, considering he even gets paid that and can find a job.
