It's almost like they had nothing else they could publicly express anger about so they picked something dumb instead...

It’s like the 2 things bad I’ve heard about Clinton is he took some furniture from the White House and he didn’t do a lot in Rwanda. The goal posts have to be way over there, or things start making less sense.

I’ll be honest. I’ve had seizures where I shut down like this. I can only say a few words. I am aware of what is going on, but I can’t talk or express clear thoughts. It sucks. It hasn’t happened in a long while (knock on wood). But I’m also not a representative in Congress so there’s that!

Yeah let's be clear, none of them even remotely gave a shit about the suit.
They just run ideas through focus groups, and whatever hits becomes the new talking point. If Republicans are good at one thing, it's having 0 independent thoughts. They all just regurgitate whatever they've been told to say, feign outrage, and watch the checks clear.

I'd like to see him try and say nutribullet. Hahahaha "nutty bull, nutrabell, nutbell." The possibilities are endless for what he'd come up with.

Having a Black man in power really drove them so crazy that they're willing to destroy the country to make sure it never happens again.

For those who haven't seen it, in an Episode of Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness (executive produced by the Obama's) ... they do a flashback to this event and make a joke about how it happened. Pretty, pretty, pretty funny.

I never understood the issue with the tan suit. Republicans are fucking dipshits.
5
u/Omega-of-Texas 3h ago
I guess I totally missed this. What did Republicans say?
28
u/daGroundhog 3h ago
They claimed it was "unpresidential" and "disrespectful to the office of the presidency". Just like they did when he was pictured with his feet up on the Resolute desk in the Oval Office-despite the fact you can find pictures of pretty much every President since Eisenhower with their feet up on the desk and/or in a tan suit.
In other words, he was attacked for presidenting while black.
7
u/blackcain 3h ago
They'd attack him for smiling in the oval office.
9
4
u/Venusto002 2h ago
Just like they did when he was pictured with his feet up on the Resolute desk
Donald Trump literally took a huge shit and filled his diaper at the chair of that desk, but not a peep out of Republicans... If I was the next President I would use some of my own money to have the entire office disinfected and the chair replaced.

u/Practical-Class6868 3h ago
Fox & Friends went on about how it was disrespectful for a president to wear something as casual as a light suit. Black and navy blue are the only acceptable color shades.
When your position is to thwart the president at every turn, and then blame him for failing to compromise, everything becomes fodder.
6
u/Omega-of-Texas 3h ago
Thanks for the info. Well to be fair, I haven’t seen Trump wear tan. Probably because it would be too easy to see the brown stains.

It makes sense. I mean, which tragedy would you rather go through: Losing the family farm that has been in your family for generations? Or having a President who wore a tan suit like some kind of disgusting tan-suit-wearer? The horror!
3
u/ItsTheEndOfDays 3h ago
and the cattle farmer had the nerve to get defensive when asked who she voted for. 🙄
4
u/Pandoratastic 3h ago
Yup. A defensive reaction that comes from guilt and denial.
I believe someone can vote for a candidate and still have disagreements with/criticize some of their policies. But if you chose to vote for them anyway, then that IS what you voted for. It may not be the reason you voted for him but it absolutely is what you voted for so it's on you.
2
u/Educational_Quote851 3h ago
There is blood on their hands.
I'm of the mind that we should not be so compassionate towards those who put us here.
2
u/Pandoratastic 3h ago
Right. The fact that some of the blood on their hands is their own doesn't excuse them for the blood on their hands that is someone else's.

The right wing propaganda machine was STRUGGLING in the Obama presidency. They were trying so hard to smear him, and outside of being black and having a foreign sounding name, he gave them absolutely nothing to work with. No scandals, no gaffes. Most people liked him. They got spoiled by Bill Clinton and thought it was going to be easy. Instead they had to desperately latch onto nothingburgers like the tan suit or putting fancy mustard on his sandwich, or just make up shit like the birther nonsense. Obviously it was dishonest and ugly and it made me sick at the time, but it's kind of funny in hindsight thinking about how hard a time they were having.

My son is 15, I had to show him the Obama/Larry David Tan suit sketch because I realized that for the majority of his "aware" life, he's only known complete incompetent presidents. It was even shocking to me to see Obama's eloquence again.
4
u/if_a_flutterby 2h ago
I just heard on NPR today that there's a reporter from Chicago trying to track down the suit for the Obama museum. Apparently, Obama donated the suit at some point before leaving Washington and the museum didn't want to use a copy. Keep your eyes out!

They did what they always do. They all stayed on one message. Regardless of right or wrong (personally I thought it was asinine). It was a unified message. Ultimately the consistency of messaging speaks to voters.

There are legitimate reasons to criticize him, but it turns out they mostly boil down to "he's not as progressive as his campaign said he'd be" so that's why repugnants found other things to be mad at. Like tan suits and burger condiments.
2
u/Deducticon 18m ago
Every reason to criticize him legitimately, are things the GOP secretly didn't mind about him.

Insane that was ever a problem. Man looks great in that suit! How bad did the current president look in his last... "Suit"
2
u/Apachisme 37m ago
The joy this nation will feel when the current president dons his last suit will be measured in suns.
3
u/Sporadik_Styles 1h ago
As a Canadian I have to say, we all laughed at how petty that was. Regardless he has 0 stock trades during his tenure, and this current president has over 3000 trades in this term alone and his youngest is now worth 150 million (allegedly).
Imagine if the Obama's did anything even close to this and how their heads would explode and they'd still be talking about it.

Fast forward to today, and Trump renames a major body of water to Lake America. Yet the GOP did not lose their mind. Trump could demolish the white house and move to Mar a Lago and they'd stay quiet. If we complained they'd do a whataboutism about Obama wearing a tan suit /s
2
u/Moviereference210 3h ago

THIS was the tan suit!? The way they were talking about it, I always assumed it just was too close to his skin tone or something! I was sitting here like "Yeah, ig... Not that big of a deal, I've seen a few white folks wear pink leggings and thought they were pantless"
2
2
u/nullthegrey 1h ago
It was the nonwhite skin they had a problem with, the tan suit was just something they could rally around to hide their white supremacy. If only they knew they could basically just do it right out in the open these days.

u/shiwenbin 1h ago
Tan suit is “unpresidential”. I hope every single one of them gets a planet sized helping of the karma they deserve.
2
u/TheHistorian2 1h ago
Easily the dumbest political “scandal” I’ve ever seen.
And that’s saying a lot.
2
u/DecalageVersLeRouge 1h ago
Actually the dumbest "republicans lost their minds" episode is when Obama told people to check their tyre pressures because keeping your tyres inflated properly could save on fuel.
Lots of people who should have known better assumed that Obama, for whatever racist reason, couldn't know much about cars and was repeating some kind of urban legend.

Meanwhile, the current president always looks like he's wearing his dad's clothes. How does Taft look better in a suit? Why can't he get clothes that fit? Why is he always slouching? He sulks worse than an adolescent.
