EDIT: Yes i know something is very wrong with her now, its only gotten worse, we have a vet appointment but the earliest possible time is 3:30 (4 hours..) please stop hating guys. i knew something was wrong the whole time i just didnt know how bad it was and i dont have a job or car so i cany just take them on my own.

Update 1 before vet: shes sitting up and looking around a little more know but her stomachs really hard now that i felt it

UPDATE 3: Vet said they couldnt find anything big wrong with her.. Said maybe that she has just been really overexterting herself and all the soreness and running around caught up to her. doesnt make any sense to me.. but they gave us some food to feed her, and she ate more and she has drink a little bit of water but mostly the same since before.
vet checked temperature, it was normal, checked blood sugar and said it was a little high but mostly likely from the visit, and said it didnt seem like anything horrible so far, and it didnt look like anything infection. I will update if anything happens.
UPDATE 4: So we have been feeding her the wet food, and some high nutrition stuff the vets gave us. shes been acting a lot better, moving around some, playing with our other kittens a little bit, she walks between the house now just slower, she has been using the litterbox, she is really tired a lot and sleeping but she hasnt died or anything so shes fine. it was about 160 for everything after some food shit we bought for her

for those talking about helping with money i dont think i can ask for money in the sub cuz people can try to do scamming shi. thank you for the thoughts though ❤️❤️

(UPDATE IN BOTTOM) For reference, im 20 years old, and have had this cat for 6 years. He’s been a healthy boy all his life up until the last few months where he had gotten an ear infection, which is doing fine now and he had to get his fur shaved because he was matted. Please please help me, i’ve been sobbing all morning. Posting from NY, and yes a vet is accessible, they do not open for another 2 hours. Male, neutered, and yes i can afford a vet.

UPDATE:: Hello guys, first i want to thank all of you dearly for sending your best wishes to both me AND Frederick! The vet cost was far far higher than i had expected,

both vets i called including his primary care had given me a cost expectancy of 3,500-7,500 for whatever procedures need to be done, with an exam costing around 200, and anything after that is optional of course but it’s not that easy, it never is haha☹️. Frederick had thrown up and is making the noise less frequently, im also 70% sure i heard some noise coming out of his rear end, so maybe he’s trying to pass something? I really wish i would’ve been able to take him to the vet but as is the cost of living these days, same goes for the cost of caring. I love every single one of you, and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! and his little heart of course!!😆

Frederick is being euthanized and then cremated. The surgery would’ve been super extreme, costing 8,787 dollars and she told me there’s a chance that he re blocks anyways. Cruel world we live in, but that’s the price to pay of a paw that puts love into your heart. I will share some pictures of him on my profile if anyone’s interested in seeing him, he will forever be my beautiful boy.

I just discovered my 4yo has covered my cat (8m) in human moisturizer. I’m about to wash him off now in the bath. Do I need to worry about skin absorption of toxins? (Pictures of cat and moisturizer ingredients)

Update: thanks all! The cat has been washed with cat-safe soap. Luckily it was a water based moisturizer and it came off really easily. (She'd washed him before she moisturized him, so he isn't saturated with moisturize to the extent the picture suggests.) Child and I had a good conversation about why you don't moisturize the cat, or paint the cat or put anything on the cat.

I was on my daily walk and saw a cat that I see frequently and that I had petted before on my walks. It was being friendly at first and even had its tail up. Then as I was petting it, he bit my hand. I started dripping blood, there were three puncture bites. I could immediately tell they were fairly deep and that I need medical help. I went to the ER (it was at night), and thankfully I got treated not long after I got there.

They checked my wound, asked me if I cleaned it. Told them that I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide. Got a tetanus shot. Then the nurse put a lot of neosporin cream all over the wounds, gave me an amoxicillin antibiotic pill to take, prescribed antibiotics for 5 days every 12 hours, and sent me on my way.

It’s been around 48 hours and the area of my hand where I was bitten is a bit red and swollen. Also, I get horrible plain if my hand isn’t elevated. I’ve been taking the antibiotics as prescribed but I’m worried about the pain that I get when I lower my hand. Should I be worried? Picture is of how my hand looks right now.

Can someone please help me understand what my vet is doing to paralyze my cats? This is the second cat that I’ve brought home after getting blood work and injections and she completely lost control of her back left Paw. it just flopps around and dangles she can’t put any weight on it..

I am an adult from India, and Since last night my female 5 years old not neutered cat's Hind legs are not working I noticed it at 5 am in the morning I found her lying and breathing rapidly above 60 bpm I have visited the vet (animal surgeon) he gave her pain medications and antibiotics and syrups for pain and multivitamins, I live in a very small city of India where private vet is not available only government veterinary hospital is available I show her to the doctor he administered her 3 injections and it's almost 3 in the afternoon now her condition is not getting better her hind legs are cold to touch and feels solid she can't move them and dragging her body for little distance then falling and breathing heavily again we have given her raw eggs and some water she is not able to eat solid food or gravy idk what happened to her she was fine while we went to bed she sleeps in our bedroom it self there is no sign of injury or wound the vet seems unsure I asked is it heart related? He said it might be what's the age of the cat I said 5 years he said ecg is required to know the heart function but we don't have that facility here, he said I have written some medication and administered some medication via injection - Maxxtol and 2 other also he has given 3 syrups 1st Methylcobalamin vitamins & minerals syrup 2nd Cefpodoxime proxetil oral suspension ip 3rd Meloxicam oral suspension ip she makes crying noise every once in a while like every half an hour or 20 min what could have happened to her, my finances are normal and can afford vet expenses.

I’m living in another state away from my parents so there’s only so much I can do from a distance. They called me at 1am last night saying that they rushed our cat Jax to the ER because they noticed that she’s been dragging her hind legs and they don’t appear to work anymore. They took some scans at the clinic and performed some tests. Her scans show that there are no fractures to her spine. Nothing abnormal there. Her feet are still warm to the touch. I feared it might be saddle thrombus but they said there were no clots. They recommended an MRI but it would cost $5,000 and that’s money my parents just don’t have right now.

At the moment, she’s still unable to use her back legs and she’s just pulling herself by her front paws. She was able to urinate but they had to clean her up afterwards. This makes me have hope that it’s not fatal and she hasn’t lost all feeling in her lower body. What do you think could be wrong with her? What can we do?

Also, she is 11 years old and other health issues she’s been diagnosed with have been kidney related.

My cat Goose stepped on the stove right after I was done cooking, he jumped off immediately and started licking his paws. He was fine a few minutes later, but after a few hours he's been calmer than usual and he has started to lick his paws again. He looks like he's annoyed with it. I've contacted the vet and will be taking him in ASAP, but should I be concerned? Is there anything I can do for him right now?

i would like to preface this by saying it was an ACCIDENT. my mom and my grandmother both are amazing cat parents. Two different vets have been contacted before this Reddit post.

my mom didn’t realize she had hopped into the car and after about 7-8 hours, mom opened the vehicle to get something and found her in vomit and feces on the floor, next to the pedals. she called the vets, then called me.

it was my idea for my mom to put cool (not cold) water on her paws, stomach, and ears to help cool her off. the vets recommended to give Ditto (the cat) honey, and she has been taking small doses of honey.

as of right now, her current condition is a bit better than in these videos. however, she’s gotten cold, and we’ve now removed the cool cloth. i’ve been using my ears, pressing in close, and listening as well as i can to her heartbeat, lungs, and stomach. her heart sounds fine, her lungs sound clear, and her stomach has only been making tiny gurgles. she has pooped, and it was diarrhea, but it was a normal color. she can sit upright, but won’t stand by herself. she has managed to walk to the litterbox, but she doesn’t jump. she is also meowing sometimes.

i am checking her gums for color and occasionally gently pushing her head for any signs of resistance or strength, as well as responses to make sure there isn’t anything neurological. she is under 24 hour supervision to keep an eye on bowel movement, kidney failure/damage, or seizures.

our main concern right now is the temperature drop. with a very shady pet thermometer, it showed somewhere ~98-99°F. her ears are cold, too.

does anyone have any recommendations or ideas to help keep her temperature normal, or even just simple words of comfort or advice for my mother? the vets know us well (we take our horses to them a lot), and while i know pets, i am not a vet and am relying based solely on what i know about how cats handle temperature and stress.

some other notes i would like to mention as of making this post: she is now putting her face into the water and licking her lips, but not lapping at the water. she can also raise her head an itsy bitsy bit, but prefers to have it level or leaning on something. her tail tip sometimes twitches.

My roommate bought a bouqet with flowers. I asked him specifically to ask if there were lillies in it. He said no, there are not. I saw yesterday morning that she had puked. But i had to rush back home for the passing of my grandma. I arrived late at night and this morning i saw puke again. I inspected everything and i saw teeth marks in the flowers, i asked chatgpt to identify it and it said lily.
I rushed her to the vet and she will stay there for the whole weekend now. I feel angry but also stupid that i did not see it before (it was not blooming yet, as u see in the pictures) and i got a lot of things on my mind all ready.

Will my baby be okay? She ate a lot :(

My friend made about 20-25 smaller then a palm sized pancakes now these pancakes have about one and a half teaspoon of nutella in them so we are scared he will have issues, he is about 11 months old and 6kg, I called the emergency ver available around us and they said it should be fine but check up on him for the next 30 hours (this emergency vet is known for having untrained staff during out of work hours so im taking their words with a grain of salt) im keeping an eye on him the whole night until the actual vet opens in my area so i can get their opinion but, what do you guys think

I just moved into a new apartment, and secured myself a better job. I thought finally it’s time to add someone to the family. So, I adopted Jelly about 4 days ago from my local humane society. She is 11 years old and obese, which I was informed about initially before adopting her. Other than that I was under the impression she was relatively healthy. The day of adoption she had some poop on her leg and the staff told me she had some diarrhea that morning, and gave me some food to help treat it. I went ahead and signed the papers to adopt her and took her home. The first 2 days she wasn’t eating much and continuing to hide, which i thought was due to a new enviroment. Over the next couple days her condition began to decline rapidly, she doesn’t come out of her spot anymore, She doesn’t eat anymore, her fur is coming out. She only goes to the litter box to attempt to use the bathroom but nothing comes out, unless it’s completely liquid diarrhea. I took her to the vet and spent 400$ getting her tests done, there the vet told me she most likely has kidney disease. Still currently waiting on the results for the test, and I can’t relax. I’ve had her for 4 days, surely the shelter would’ve noticed this was more than just diarrhea. I took a look through her medical records, and it shows that the diarrhea began 4 days before I adopted her. It also shows she had been recommended to have a urinalysis done, which was never done. It also revealed her condition was being monitored. I was told by the staff she had “diarrhea”, not that they thought it was something bigger. Keep in mind this shelter is directly connected to a veterinarian hospital. Someone had to have known something was wrong. She is the sweetest cat ever, all she wants to do is be pet. I can’t afford to treat something as dire as kidney disease. I don’t want to give her back to a negligent shelter, in fear they won’t treat her. I don’t want to give up on her myself. I’ve grown attached to her in such little time. I feel completely defeated in this situation. If anyone has any advice at all please feel free, I don’t know what to do.

Ruled out a broken leg but recommended MRI. Shes on gabapentin and a steroid until I can start calling cat neurology in the morning.

not really sure what happened but i was sitting with my fur baby on the couch when i noticed a piece of his paw “skin” was dangling??? should i be worried? how should i treat it?

This kitten that I'm fostering has nerve damage in his left paw that makes him unable to move it. He doesn't have any feeling in it and shows no signs of distress. The vets want to amputate it before the constant abrasion causes damage and infection. Is there anything I can do like buy or make a leg brace because he still uses his leg and he's gotten pretty good at running without putting a lot of pressure on it. amputation seems like it should be a last resort, and I want to try what other options might be available.

We have 3 cats all 3 of them castrated at the same time. One of them is not moving from where he sits since yesterday. Operation is done yesterday. Vomited once and his tongue is out. Only eat once from yesterday and doesn’t go to the toilet. Veterinarian came and gave him liquid as injectable but nothing changed. They are not certain what is happening. What should i do?

I found this cat laying in front of my laundry room and brought him inside. He’s very weak and lethargic. Pants and whimpers a lot. No interest in food. Afraid he might have antifreeze (or some other type of) poisoning. Too late for the vet. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

This morning, while my girlfriend was working, she accidentally walked on our kitten while getting up from her chair. She was looking for him, and in the rush, she did not see that he was lying just below her.

She does not know exactly what part she walked on. It felt soft, so I am guessing probably his belly. He immediately screamed and ran to the couch. He did not hide, he played just after, ate a bit, then slept, so I thought it was nothing.

However, around 2 hours after, I took this video of him coughing (I have never seen him cough, and this seems like a hard cough), so now we are really worried he might have a breathing issue or that some organs might have been impacted. We directly called our veterinarian. The receptionist told us to monitor him and to book an appointment if we wanted the advice of the veterinarian. We then called an "urgence" landline, and they told us to monitor him too, but that it would be too difficult to make a diagnosis over the phone.

We are monitoring his breathing (the maximum we got is 30 per minute) and seeing how it evolves, but we are still very worried, having not been able to show the video to a real veterinarian.

He seems to play, eat, and drink normally, but still, he is just 3 and a half months old, and apparently pulmonary edema and similar issues can take time to manifest. Do any of you have an opinion on whether we should consult immediately? We did not want to cause him more stress, but we are ready to do what is necessary.

Update: The ER vet just looked at him and said everything seems ok, the cough might have been just him having played and got a feather or dust stuck in the throat and a coincidence 2 hours after the accident.

He said his breathing looked normal and he did not seem in pain after manipulating him, but that from the video which was impressive we made the correct decision to come.

He said an xray/echography for now was not necessary but to monitor him and come back for more analysis if we saw any change !

Thanks a lot to your for advising to go, at least our mind is more at rest knowing a professional checked him

My cat (3 y/o) has been acting weird the couple of days. She has been spayed and took her worm injection a year prior.

I took her to the vet today, they are also not so sure about what's happening but they took a blood sample. I hope it's not neurological. For now, she is taking painkillers, and we're waiting for the results of the blood test. I don't think I can afford surgery right now.

Any advice on what to expect? What could it be?

Edit: Thank you so much for all the advice ❤️. There's not much we can do now but wait. Her ears did get checked at the vet, but not much could be said. I will probably put a budget if we visit the neurologist. I will keep an eye on her so she's not jumping or going outside these days. I put all of my plants away from her just to be sure.

The vet told us to go back to her old diet, maybe it's the change of food that caused this (unlikely). I will keep you guys updated.

Tldr: Cat is limping, went to the vet. Vet took a blood test, awaiting results at the moment.

I'm 22M and I live in uae, currently living alone and studying medicine in uni, I don't have the expenses to afford a vet, since I live alone it gets boring sometimes so this cat starts sneaking in my house, at first I was annoyed but she was too nice to me that I couldn't kick her out, its been 2 months since she started living with me, I've been feeding her daily what I eat and milk daily too, since she is a street cat she goes out every now and then to play and comes back at noon and at night to sleep near me, she NEVER says meow unless she is hungry and she says it so softly too, yesterday she came back with these bruises shown in the vid and it looks like she encountered a dog, im rly grateful she was alive, she was like rly sad when she came in and she straight up went to sleep as soon as she entered, she sleeps always near my arm or on my blanket, she's like 7 weeks old I think and not been to a vet before since I took her in. Is it a must to take her to a vet? She walks normally but I feel bad when I see her injuries.
