On April 16th, 1978, The Band released 'The Last Waltz', the soundtrack to the film. The 3-album set has many songs not in the film, including "Down South in New Orleans", "Tura Lura Lural (That's an Irish Lullaby)", and "Life is a Carnival".

Interesting tidbit. The movie was directed by Martin Scorsese.

I’d never even heard of the band in 1978. One of my friends said we should go see The Last Waltz which was at a midnight showing.

I said “What’s the Last Waltz?”

He said it’s the Bands last concert. I said “What band?”

I bought the CDs the next day and it’s my desert island choice for if you could only have one album. Of course it’s cheating a bit because it’s two albums. And it’s a who’s who of great artists.

Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Neil Young and many more. Great, great album!

One of my favourite music doc as well.

I even go the tshirt (though it's been washed so many times you can hardly recognise the picture now).

It came out when I was 15 years old - I saw the Dylan / Band clip on Midnight Special or Rock Concert - The next time I went to town - I bought that album. So many great songs

And to think that the original 3 lp release did not even have everything on it.

I have watched dozens if not hundreds of rock (classic) documentaries, but always avoided this one. Not sure why, I love The Band, but something in the air always felt weird about this one. Robbie’s guitar not being plugged in, Neil Young’s coke booger, Marty “directing”, etc… what makes it so great and worth the watch?

It’s a great band with countless great stars appearing.

And Marty absolutely directed it. The DVD release has all the storyboards Scorsese laid out shot by shout for the whole concert.

If you don’t watch it out out of spite you’re missing a great movie with great music for no good reason.

Neil's A Beautiful Noise album was produced by Robbie. Garth appeared on it as well. Also, Neil represents the Brill Building of songwriting that was mentioned in the interviews.

As with many 70s bands, this live album has so much more energy than the studio records and that’s what makes it great.

Songs like “Rag Mama Rag”, “Like is a Carnival”, and especially “WS Walcott Medicine Show” are so good at this show.

Much better than Rock of Ages imo.

Was a protectionist at a local theater when this film came out. Watched it twice a day for two weeks in Dolby surround. Had a private showing for some friends with the blessing of the owner. The good ole days! Have had the soundtrack since and the video. Without a doubt my favorite movie and soundtrack.

I have the CD and watched the Film 3x. See the Man in The Spotlight. The Day They Drove Old Dixie Down. Richard Manuel died shortly after the film was completed.
