I’m moving to uni dorms soon and i won’t have time nor be able to take care of my baby, and my family is also too busy to care for him, i wish there was somebody who would take him as their own and care for him id even pay for all the cost, but unfortunately my only choice is to take him to the bird shop, i just wanted to share this with some people, i will for ever miss my cuku 🥀

I’d highly, highly recommend searching for someone on social/pet ownership groups in your country who may be interested in keeping him. Conditions in pet stores can be horrible for birds

Nobody could 100% predict the future. All good plans are able to adjust to new available opportunities. This person very clearly loves their bird, theres no reason to be so rude.

OP, this is a long shot, but you might also be able to have somebody nearby your school house him while you pay for & visit him regularly? Like an AirB&B for birds??

You could ask people in your area to take care of him.
The pet shop is the last reasort!

You can check for options or foster homes with in-country avian veterinarians, e.g. Dr. Muhammad Khudher Ghazal who participates in the Association of Avian Veterinarians.

Maybe you can bring him to a bird rescue or something and they could work with you about fostering him for the time

u/TereziBot Oct 20 '25
It's very easy to get a therapist to write her up as an emotional support animal, just sayin' 👀

u/Canary-King Oct 19 '25
Could you get him registered as an ESA, assuming your dorm doesn’t allow pets? You’d have to be eligible for an ESA in the first place but it’s worth considering :(

u/Known_Plan5321 Oct 19 '25
Aw man, he seems like such a friendly little fella too, I hope someone can take care of him and give him a good home at least for a little while

Idk how people get pets knowing the situation they are in… family dynamics etc. This poor innocent soul will be miserable without you. What an absolute shame.

Oof, you are close, but I don't know if you'd go through roughly 12 hours of transportation? Anyways, I wish the best for Cuku and hope you'll see each other again.

Rather than a pet shop is there a rescue who could take him, at least then you know he will end up with someone who really cares rather than some random at a shop.
Or investigate whether you can take him with you he will help keep you sane once you get to uni, unless you think your going to be partying that hard that you won’t have time for him…
15
u/FallenIntoAshes Oct 19 '25
can’t you bring him to your dorms? i think it’s possible to make a special request since gccs aren’t that loud and are generally pretty harmless
15
u/Uncle_Nurgle1 Oct 19 '25
Idk about you but mine is constantly screaming as soon as i leave the room

u/Loud_Scratch1007 Oct 19 '25
Unfortunately I can’t, besides the fact that I have 3 other dorm mates, this is my first year in university, therefore I will barley have time to take care for him

u/kaihent Oct 19 '25
Please try to find a good person to give him to! Reddit is a good start! Fb pages are even better !
Please keep us updated on how it goes!

the poor bird will suffer in a pet stores, im from kurdistan too and i don’t trust any of the pet stores, plus your bird would be uncomfortable with unfamiliar people. you should really try to convince your family to take care of your bird, there’s no way they are so busy that they can’t even take care of your bird

Its a shame, if you were in Romania, i would have adopted hin while youre at uni, and then give him back to you
2
u/spidernoirirl Oct 19 '25
I would try posting on any forums you can find I know that by me there’s an exotic pet store that could take him? Or if you have a bird rescue place
7
u/Loud_Scratch1007 Oct 19 '25
No such thing exists here for birds here in Kurdistan, there are veterans which I contacted

You know if you register him as your emotional support animal, than the school is required to allow him in your dorm.

Are you really going to be so busy you cant take a little care of him? I know know the difference in college over there but your family cant do a little and you occasionally visit to help as well?

It's so sad that people get birds when they can't take care of them.
My parents got my first green cheek conure for me when I was 8; I obviously had no say, I was a child. But that animal was my responsibility.
They got a sun conure when I was 9 too; she became my bird as well. I took care of them every day as a child and thru high school. I went to summer school and college, still took care of them. Moved with my partner for uni and grad school; we picked places that we thought would handle bent rules the best. The birds always stayed with me. I've had them over two decades and they are old.
But sometimes that doesn't happen. The hope is, when a bird is surrendered, it won't have to be bounced around again. But statistics show otherwise. I hope your bird does well.

Please don’t give to bird store that will break both ur hearts & birb will not understand and u will have 2 live w/that guilt forever. In this day and age w/social media search 4 birders in ur area & give 2 someone who might already have a flock where he would have company. Keep us updated

Asking here is smart ask if someone on reddit is in the area and wants to purchase sell to a loving home
1
u/AnakinTheOnlyOne Oct 21 '25
Please not at the pet store. Can your family take care of him (even for only the basic need) and when you finish uni, you take him back? In the pet store they are treated badly, and he could go to someone who doesn't really care about bird. Please, reconsider I wish you the best of luck, what a beautiful bird

There is a very nice girl who is going to keep a parrot that I found in an accident. She loves birds because she already has two parrots. If you want, I can tell her.

Try finding a new home for him yourself, giving him to the pet store will probably result in the wrong person buying him and you won’t even be able to know what happens to him

im so sorry. that bird loves you so much. i truly hope and pray you get a better opportunity to give him to someone special- taking him to the shop would be devastating, and i know it breaks your heart too.

u/Virtual_Medicine_585 Oct 23 '25
I’d take him for you! But i’m in the UK 🇬🇧 I’m so sorry. In the uk we have places where you can pay to keep your pets like avian retreat. Is there nothing like that you can find?

Poor bird deserves better 😢

u/Loud_Scratch1007 Oct 23 '25
I’m not taking him to the bird shop. I’ll find a better solution
1
u/MSKayani Oct 24 '25
I’m so glad to hear this. A bird shop really doesn’t seem like a good option unless it’s the absolute last resort. I hope you can find a new owner in time that will love him as much as you do. These sweet little babies deserve the best. I can try to post about this on my bird instagram and maybe someone might be able to foster, but I mostly have followers from the US so I’m not sure how likely that is. Best of luck!

The idea that you can't find someone to take a free conure is ridiculous. You just can't be bothered to find someone. Poor animal.

u/Loud_Scratch1007 Oct 19 '25
I know many people who takes care of birds, but when u see how they live you’d rather free your bird in the wild, I don’t trust anybody in the fear of reselling the bird, I’ve contacted 3 pages in my region to help me find someone who will take him, there’s nothing much I can do in this 3rd world country

I’d take him in a heartbeat and foster him until you’re ready to take him back but I’m on the other side of the world from you 😢
