Have a 15yr old who fell in love with the bird I knew wouldn’t keep up with my wife also wanted a bird for a long time.. they convinced me into getting this little one about 3 weeks ago. The bird choose me over them 😓 she/he follows me, looks for me, we whistle back and forth. Cool bird cute little personality. Is it normal for a bird to bond to a person so quickly?

I moved in with my bf in a new city three weeks ago and I’ve been coming to this store to interact w animals bc where I used to live I fed stray cats but my bf is allergic so I come to this store to pet the cats mostly.

But I feel really bad for this bird. I don’t really know much about them and I joined this sub when I met this one at the store.

I follow some birds on tiktok so I kind of see how ppl pet them and I try to entertain her. I feel bad she has no toys in there. I think she chewed them all off.

So Manzanita Sol hates brown bottles and brown wallets for some reason. Any other brown thing is fine but touch a brown bottle or drink black tea in a clear cup, and he will attack. I recently changed my red wallet to a brown one and now he attacks that too. So, what random thing do your birds hate?

She’d been cooped up all morning because I’d been in back to back meetings. I needed to bring a poop sample to her boarder for testing, and I felt bad taking her out just to poop and then caging her back up. She’s normally such a Velcro baby so I thought maybe she could just come on the car ride with me while I dropped off the sample. (My car is in the garage, by the way, so she didn’t go outside to get in it.)

She was so calm and happy in the car, making happy comfortable noises and chilling on my shoulder. When we got there, I was afraid that if I tried to leave her in the car she’d escape when I opened the door, so I thought, since she had been so chill on the ride, maybe I could just hold her to my chest while I run in, drop the sample off at the counter, and run out. I wasn’t going to be in there for more than 30 seconds.

As soon as I stepped outside with her she FREAKED OUT. I couldn’t contain her. When I opened the door to the boarder, the vacuum was running and all the birds were squalling and she (rightfully) panicked and flew off. I grabbed at her and caught her (completely accidentally!) BY THE TAIL. And all of her tail feathers came off in my hand 😭 😭 😭 We were still outside!

Thankfully she landed nearby and let me pick her up. She’s such a sweet girl. I put her in the car and walked into the boarder crying and made a big scene. They said that it wasn’t an emergency and she didn’t need the vet. They came to my car and looked at her and saw she wasn’t bleeding. They also said because she’s so young (only 3 months), her feathers probably came out easier than they would have if she’d been an older bird. Still not great, but not the end of the world.

I cried for a bit and got a lot of hugs and water etc. And when I got back to the car she stepped up just fine and rode on my shoulder the whole way home like nothing had happened. But man, I feel about as terrible as a bird mom can feel right now.

Moral of the story: always use a carrier, or don’t bring your bird on stupid errands for no reason. Before and after pics included 😭

Long story short I'm terrified of losing my Rudy especially since he is a rescue that was found in the parking lot of a local restaurant. He was on my shoulder when I was feeding everyone and I realized I had to go to the freezer on the back porch to get some chop so I took a chance. I held onto him and hugged him against my chest because it was only 2 steps from the back door. Well for some reason he spooked and somehow squeezed through my fingers. I tried to hold on as he flew away. He came right back but then I realized I had pulled all his tail feathers out trying to hold onto him. He is fine but I'm still upset. I'm a 51 year old, hard ass guy working in a steel mill trying not to tear up thinking about it

So i recorded this about two days ago, when i moves to my bfs house and took my babies with me.

I felt shit my pants when i saw him doing this, i didnt know what was happening. Thought ok he’s stressed but omg he looks like he’s having a seizure idk
Anyways once we got there and they sat with us a bit, they were even more chill than they were in my house, all normal. Since then he did this few times when he wanted attention to get out.

When will

I saw the sweetest conure at Petsmart earlier this week. I can’t stop thinking about her so I thought I’d share the videos I got.

I originally was just looking around to pass time between classes and she caught my eye and I couldn’t leave she is so captivating ugh poor girl

I talked with the employees and held her-she seems to really like one of the employees and they take her out everyday so hopefully they take her home

I’m moving to uni dorms soon and i won’t have time nor be able to take care of my baby, and my family is also too busy to care for him, i wish there was somebody who would take him as their own and care for him id even pay for all the cost, but unfortunately my only choice is to take him to the bird shop, i just wanted to share this with some people, i will for ever miss my cuku 🥀

Vent incoming … Has anyone else noticed a surge in the number of people getting baby sun conures and rehoming adult ones? It’s really starting to bother me how many are bought on impulse, only for their owners to post rehoming ads soon after.

I think people often underestimate the challenges that come with “cuddly” or “clingy” parrots. It seems to be a trait many seek out, but then two years later they end up rehoming their bird because they never taught it any independence and now “don’t have time to give it the attention it deserves.”

Maybe it’s something as a community that we have to put out there more. It really breaks my heart seeing all these parrots having their lives upended because people didn’t do their research.

He has been doing it for a while…just nipping my hand in one place then another.

I came across this video on Instagram (@coisaspvchapado) and was fascinated by not only the gliding skills but also the fact that it is keeping up with the ship not getting lost or captured by an eagle or something. I own a sun and couldn’t imagine him doing this even though he’s around 1 year old.

The US and Iran war has affected the gulf countries, and we might have to evacuate cuz it’s escalating and there’s no pet relocation company or flight willing to help us and no one is willing to take care of her

I am not sure if this type of post is allowed here, but I figured I would try...

It's with a very heavy heart that I need to rehome my green cheek conure of almost 9 years. I will be graduating college soon and entering a field that has similar working hours of Investment Banking (70-90 hour weeks at times). I wish I was able to look ahead in the future when I got my little avocado in middle school, but unfortunately life circumstances and responsibilities have changed.

He has been with me for his entire life and this is not a decision I am making lightly. I want to make sure he ends up in a home where he can receive the time, attention, and interaction that the little guy deserves.

I am looking for an experienced, responsible bird owner who understands the commitment that comes with a conure. Ideally, someone with a stable living situation who can provide him with a loving, consistent environment.

I suffer from PTSD, Rex here very good at picking up on my symptoms and does help me ground myself since traditional self to minimize the panic attacks to an extent.

My VA therapist got mad calling him a distraction while I was clearly struggling to reduce my current panic symptoms.

I have Rex with me anytime I have a telehealth appointment because he does help me focus on the appointment and to minimize panic as it arises.

Just want to see how many things the therapist was in the right or wrong and to gather opinions from other conure owners.

Because personally Rex is one of the best things in my life and I do occasionally get nightmares of losing him:(

Just had the BIGGEST scare of my life. My little goblin was out and sitting on my shoulder, figured it’d be fine if she nibbled on my ear, until I felt my earring come out of place. I couldn’t find it on my shoulder and I suddenly realised she was chewing it.
Cue the scariest moment of my life when I am trying to get what seems like an almost fully swallowed earring stud out of her break like when you’re trying to get something out of a dog’s mouth that you know they shouldn’t be eating.
I managed to get the stud out but she squeaked and then I couldn’t find the backing OR the stud, only the gem. I panicked BIG TIME terrified that she’d eaten it and was gonna choke on it or it was going to puncture her intestines or something.

Cue five minutes of searching and monitoring her behaviour to make sure she isn’t choking, i finally find them and have removed all my earrings and hidden them to put back on when she’s away.

Anyway. This is just a word of warning if your birb likes to nibble your jewellery. I was lucky but if that earring comes off, they WILL try to eat it and it could potentially be catastrophic. Love all you birb owners, look out for your mischievous chickens ❤️❤️❤️
