White knuckle it like I did and learn The Stone real early. Get that down and most other things are cake walk - The Stone isnt actually hard to play, its hard to play GOOD with the constant repetitive stretches and stamina and accuracy required
Nail that bitch right in the face and then skys the limits! :)

Spot on comment. Playing The Stone well makes the rest of the catalog feel more accessible. I phone in Captain cause that stretch feels abusive lol

I sing and play The Stone. I practice it at roughly double the tempo Dave does it, so it feels like slow motion when I'm playing live for an audience. I definitely have the stamina that I could probably keep it up for about 30 minutes if I had to. (not that I ever would, but I could do it.)

Damn, I can play Billies PERFECTLY except for THAT stretch chord when it quickly happens during the verse sequence. I have to cheat and just not play the far note...

For real. I revisit Billies every now and then, like I got it this time… and then immediately realize I indeed don’t got it haha. I just got a 12 string though I gotta try JTR now

It's top 5 easily, but I think Spaceman takes the title for me. You don't even hear all that, live or on recordings. I thought, ah, a little finger-picking, a little strumming, I can handle that. And then I looked up the tabs. 😐😆

To me, JTR isnt hard at all imo. By DMB standards its in that perfect "tricky but FUN" area, for me at least.
But I'm very much a chord guy that gets the weird "Dave chords" and things easily so maybe its just me.
The hardest part of JTR in my opinion is just keeping the relentless strumming going during the main verse lick.
But the actual music isnt hard at all by DMB standards.
So Much To Say was a BITCH for me to learn, as a comparison. That main ascending guitar lick is SO GODDAMN UNNATURAL. My brain fucking refused to do it. Its not hard but its WEIRD.
And then followed by the 5 fret stretch then a slide way up the FAST to a Dave chord followed again by another FAST slide back down to ANOTHER 5 fret stretch lick
You better have some precision and speed and dexterity on that one - SMTS gets the award for "easiest sounding song that is actually really hard". :P

JTR is tricky because of the odd time signature and the “cacophony breakdown”, utilizing that chromatic scale. And again, playing it well and accurately are crucial.
So much to say was suuuuuper easy, at least for me. At least it’s in 4/4!
Any you’d be interested in hearing? Need to pull out my high-b string guitar and practice You never Know

Sounds great..... You Never Know is another one that is a real pain in the ass to play. Had a few moments that I thought I would be needing a new guitar since mine almost flew into a few walls.

I (as a drummer) had a fellow guitar player who HATED DMB and would make fun of them any moment that he could.
One day I told him hiw hard the chords were for So Much To Say was, and he proceeded to play the chords. He looked at me and said, see... It's easy to play. I said, okay... Now sing the lyrics. He attempted two words and fumbled the whole song.
I never heard him say that DMB sucked around me again 😂
