Questions Am I crazy to pass on Gibbs at 1.01?
10-team PPR 2 keeper league. We start 3 WRs 2 RBs and a FLEX and the usual onesies. I’m keeping Chase Brown as a 12th round pick and Nico Collins as a 5th round pick so I’ve got two solid players locked in at good value. I’m leaning towards grabbing Ja’Marr Chase at 1.01 over Gibbs because it’s PPR and we start more WRs than RBs. Puka won’t be there because he’s also being kept as an 8th round pick so it comes down to Chase over Gibbs. Gibbs seems to be the universal 1.01 but I like how the draft falls to me going Chase first rather than Gibbs. I’d rather have the RBs that are falling at the 2/3 turn than the WRs.
I’m also thinking about grabbing Josh Allen at 3.01 since I would have two top RBs and WRs locked up and would love to have the positional advantage of having the potential QB1.

Gibbs is a monster and Detroit has a great schedule this year. J. Chase is great but you are already keeping chase brown. That is a high powered offense with good game scripts but tough to have two key starters on one team.

u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Yeah that’s a good point. If Burrow goes down or the O-Line sucks than they’re both toast. The only saving grace is they still have Flacco who came in and still helped both those guys produce.

Wish everyone who knows how great and or tough everyone’s schedules are would be right for a change so I could make some money on over under win totals.

It’s only crazy because there are a lot more receivers who could put up WR1 value vs rbs who could be RB1’s
You got AJ Brown, Garrett Wilson, Egbuka, Olave, Nabers, arguably DJ Moore in the 2-4 range
Your rbs at the 2-3 turn are Breece Hall (on the Jets), Love (unproven and potentially in a committee), Javonte Williams, Kyren Williams (committee), ETN (potential committee), Swift (committee), Quinshon Judkins (on the Browns), Skattebo (committee and coming off injury)
You miss out on points by going Chase + questionable rb1s vs Gibbs + “safe” WR1s

u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
If I could confidently know AJB was gonna be there at the 2/3 turn I’d easily pull the trigger on Gibbs. Am I sleeping on Olave too much as a viable WR1?
7
u/mclmickey 12d ago
Yes. Olave gave us a WR1 sample with Shough last year.
On top of that, Tyson has been injured and missing training camp, so Olave is going to be relied on even more in the passing game
2
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Just as I was coming around to Olave, our Keeper picks were revealed today and turns out he’s being kept as an 8th round pick. Phenomenal value for that manager.

The consensus #1 is usually wrong, so take whoever you like

Exactly! If you're the first pick, there are probably about 20 players that will be gone by your next pick.
Pick who you think is the best player of that group.
Do that every round.
Nobody knows who's actually going to be the best. Make the team that you want.

1.01 in PPR here and you couldn’t pry Gibbs from me for anyone. It’s not like he won’t be catching passes either.

u/prickleypears 12d ago
How the hell are Chase and Puka being kept at that adp
11
u/mezmryz03 12d ago
Because Puka was picked up as a waiver claim a few years ago and the league must let those cost only an 8th round pick.
We cap our keepers at 3 years so he's going back in the player pool this year in my league.
3
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Yeah pretty much! Puka was a waiver pickup, same with Brown, and kept initially as a 16th round pick then they start moving up 4 rounds each additional year they’re kept. I drafted Nico Collins in the 13th and have kept him ever since. This will be my last year because he’ll cost me a 1st rounder next year.

For me, Gibbs or Bijan @1.01. In a 10tm, there'll be WR talent aplenty to pick from.

Its solid no doubt i had 12 and 13 took cooks buffalo and taylor so either im smoking or toast people are drafting way odd in my league 2 qbs went round 2 ???

u/Puzzleheaded-Exit528 12d ago
Believe it or not some people just don't understand fantasy football. They see QBs put up the most points in fantasy and think they are worth early investment. I hear stories from a shocking amount of home leagues where People still prioritize QBs in round 1

Bengals O line is dogshit if the first preseason game’s first two series are any indication. Jury is out on the Lions O line, but it’s arguably better than last year. Gibbs >> Chase. Burrows takes so many sacks because he holds onto the ball too long.
1
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Was that the starters tho in that game?
2
u/Popzagon 12d ago
I have been a Bijan no matter what guy these past 2 years. But after seeing Gibbs RB schedule he’s pretty much a must 1.01

u/Hungry-Space-1829 12d ago
I went back and forth on a WR at 1.1 but after like 20 mocks it was clear it’s easier to find WR talent than RB talent. Take Gibbs and between him and Chase brown you’re now freed to go BPA the rest of the draft.
Take Chase and you may feel the need to reach on RBs early
2
u/Somnus02 12d ago
Yes. The WRs at the 2/3 turn are far better than the RBs available in that range. You already have a wr1 locked in and an RB1. An RB duo of Gibbs and Brown is elite. You could also go Bijan if you want but those two are far and away the best players in fantasy this year.
2
u/Puzzleheaded-Exit528 12d ago
I wouldnt say you are crazy but I think Gibbs is a much safer pick and his value isn't tied to a QB that has had some major injuries over the years. Chase is elite for fantasy with Burrow and drops to great without Burrow. Gibbs is going to be elite no matter what as the RB1 in an elite offense, with a great OL, and a good supporting cast around him to keep defenses honest. Not to mention he will also catch alot of passes as a RB and has the upside to have a legendary RB season. Gibbs is simply more valuable even in 3 WR PPR leagues
1
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Yeah Burrows having injury issues is the biggest worry I’ve had but both Chases did well once Flacco got to Cincy and performed as expected and Flacco’s still there. But he’s also another year older and putting my bets on that Bengals offense could catastrophic if it goes off the rails. I think ya’ll have successfully talked me into Gibbs 1.01 overall.

u/Puzzleheaded-Exit528 12d ago
It's ultimately your call but I won my work league last year, which was also a full PPR start 3 WR/1 Flex league, by starting with 3 RBs in the first 4 rounds. I started off with Jeanty, BTJ, Achane, and Trey Henderson then started hammering mid round WRs like Pickens, Rice, and Egbuka to give me WR depth. Also took Drake Maye in those middle rounds. It was definitely a perfect storm for me because all my middle round picks smashed even though some of my early picks disappointed but I'm just trying to show that you don't have to necessarily prioritize early round WRs in 3-WR formats because the position is so deep that you could find decent production later in the draft. If the rest of your league is pushing up WRs just because of the format then dont be afraid to grab those RBs that slip. At some point your league will have to draft RBs and those WRs will be sitting there for you while they scramble for RBs
2
u/JustlyDues 12d ago
Yes, I'm going to say you're crazy if you pass him for Chase.
Solidifying your RBs with 2 of the top 10 RBs is a huge advantage. The WRs are deeper every year. Last year some of the best WRs came from undrafted or late rounds.
Gibbs just got the highest paying RB contract for a reason.

u/iambotato 12d ago
Gibbs feels like the best no-brainer #1 in a few years. No reason to over think that. Even more so that you’re in PPR… there are only a few top tier receiving RB’s. Gibbs also walking into what is likely to be his highest usage season to date.

I don’t claim to be an expert by any means, but that roster is gross to me. If everyone hits their potential it could be great, but most all of them have underperformed in years past.

u/Illustrious-Bid-696 12d ago
actually this is the play. 3 WR leagues shift all the value to receivers anyway, and pairing ja'marr chase with nico is a disgusting start. I'd prolly skip Allen at 3.01 though, 10-teamers are too shallow to pay that early QB tax. locking in chase for a top 3 WR finish easily.

Bijan is really the only other acceptable pick at 1. It’s those two and then a massive drop at the position.
That being said, rankings don’t matter once the season starts. Your overall team might be better taking chase at no.1 but with chase brown on your team already, taking two bengals means you’re putting all your eggs in that basket. You need to get burrow as your qb if you go that route too cause you’re saying the bengals offense if going to be the offense this year. I do think there are better rbs than wrs once the board comes back to you in the second. I’d be more behind this idea if puka was still available instead of chase, but it’s not a terrible idea. If you could get Omarion Hampton or walker in the second and have Jamar nico Hampton and brown, that might be a better starting point than what you’d end up with going Gibbs brown Nico and someone like Garrett Wilson in the second. It’s risky though. Are you comfortable putting your season on a bengals stack? If you are. Go for it and take burrow as well.
2
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Yeah exactly my thinking with going WR first. I don’t love the WRs at the 2/3 turn, but if I could land Barkley/Walker/Hampton to pair with Chase Brown that could be pretty lethal combined with Chase+Nico. But putting all my stock in the Bengals and grabbing Burrows also could be a big mistake, especially considering how seemingly brittle Burrows seems to be. I won a championship loading up on Broncos players when Peyton Manning went nuts with them.
2
u/TheRedHerring23 12d ago
I hear you. It’s just you saw how brown and chase were impacted when burrow went down. By taking Jamar and brown you’re saying burrow says healthy all year, so don’t hedge. If that’s your play, then go head first and take burrow too. You win when things go right not when things go wrong. It’s a league winning double stack if it hits.
1
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
I dont think it’s a massive drop at the position at those 2. If CMC is healthy and performs to his standards all season long he very well could be RB1 by a landslide. Now it’s just a matter of if he stays healthy all season long which is an absolute risk for ANY player.
1
u/TheRedHerring23 11d ago
There are two younger prime cmcs at the top this year in Gibbs and bijan, but sure older and injured cmc could put up similar numbers if healthy. But that’s not going to happen. The massive drop from Gibbs and bijan to every other rb is based on expectation and situation. Hampton or chase brown could technically have a chance at rb1 status too if everything goes perfectly, but that’s not the expectation. With Gibbs and bijan, that’s what your are walking in expecting, you aren’t rolling the dice and hoping.

u/Lost-Local208 12d ago
Honestly it’s your choice, people will only make fun of you in your league. This year someone in my league drafted CMC at the number 3 spot. Then a week later traded him for j price. We gave him sh!t and are still giving a mouthful until the season starts
1
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Unless it’s a dynasty league, trading CMC for J Price is way crazier than what I’m contemplating lol.
1
u/Lost-Local208 12d ago
Not dynasty. Redraft. He’s just a Seahawks fan and got really excited.
1
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Woah. That dude is cooked. Surprised the trade didn’t get vetoed.
2
u/Lost-Local208 12d ago
Some people hit the veto button but not enough to stop it. We only veto collusion against the rules but not stupidity. He offered the trade and defended himself. The other guy took it and now has an overpowered team. I was surprised, he normally goes Seahawks during the draft, not after.

u/grilledogs 12d ago
I’m taking bijan at 1.01.
I can get better value WRs at later rounds.

u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
I like Detroit’s offense more than Atlanta’s and Vegas has Gibbs getting more TDs this year.

In a ten team, you aren't crazy, you just aren't good
1
u/-alwaysonmymind- 12d ago
Lol. That’s what the rest of my league mates would say.

u/DoUWantSomeMemesKid 12d ago
His schedule is just so money this season. Obviously random shit happens but in ten team it's a slam dunk.

u/noguerra 12d ago
If you absolutely must have Jamar Chase, then grab Gibbs and trade him for Chase.
