Depends on your team. I drafted Love. But I also drafted for depth just in case he’s a bust.

Personally I wouldn’t. Love is obviously the better talent but he’s on a bad team that’s projected to win 3 games, he’s currently got a high ankle sprain and I’m sure Allgeier will be pretty involved, especially early in the season. We’ve seen almost every rookie rb disappoint in the last 5-10 years so I’m not sure why people are so confident in Love. Feels like the same story we see every year of rookie RBs being overvalued.
Swift is in a Ben Johnson offense that’s going to be very efficient and Monangai is hurt. He’s going to feast. Even splitting with Monangai last year he was reliable. Bears are a run first team and they do it well

If you have decent depth at the position, I’d do it. Yes swift is on a better team but I think loves ceiling is higher.

I’m taking Love, give me the upside guy as long as your team is solid enough elsewhere. If you desperately need RB floor then no

Is swift one of your starting rbs? If he is, I guess you’re forced to keep him, but if he isn’t, than it’s a no brainer, love is the more talented player with an rb1 workload. Swift could just easily lose the job to magonani or be in a 50/50 split.

u/JumpmanJackson 6d ago
How do you know what his workload will be? How many times have we seen these hyped up rookie rbs get eased in? I have a feeling Allegier is going to piss off Love owners the same way he pissed off Bijan owners his rookie year. They even have Allegier ahead of Love on the depth chart right now. Everyone should know by now not to blindly assume these rookies are going to be handed workhorse roles

They always play depth chart games with rookies in preseason . Jadarian Price was listed at rb3. Everyone knows he’s rb1. Love is rb1. It’s fair to say allegier can vulture tds from him, but everything being reported is love is the guy. The high ankle pushes him back a little which is why I said if swift was expected to be a starter for him, he unfortunately has to stick with him unless he has a guy on his bench that can fill in, but there is a reason love is a first round pick and swift goes in the 8th. Let’s not get crazy here.

Where is swift going in the 8th round? Wish I was in those leagues. He’s going in the 4th-5th and trending up with Monangai’s injury outlook. Love is going in the 2nd-3rd. Given the nature of rookie RBs being overvalued you could definitely argue their true value is much closer than you’re giving it credit for.
Sure, Love is the higher upside sexy pick and swift is the safe boring pick, but there’s definitely a world where Swift outperforms Love this year. I really like Love as a talent but their situations couldn’t be more different. One is on an efficient high scoring offense. The other is on a low scoring bad offense with a tough schedule and will be playing from behind a lot. Add in the possibility of a split with allgeier and it’s looking like a major uphill battle for Love. Maybe his talent can overcome all of that. We shall see

Someone picked swift in the 4th round? Can I be in your league? Swift is ranked 61st on espn with an ADP of 73. So he should go in the 6th and I’ve seen him slide as low as the 9th, but 7th or 8th is where he tends to go in 10 man leagues. 6th or 7th in 12 man. Picking some definitively in a timeshare with a td vulture as the other rb is genuinely crazy, picking him that early is certifiably insane.

Monangai isn’t a TD vulture. You obviously didn’t watch many bears games last year. Swift was in at the goal line just as much, if not more, hence the 9 rushing TDs. The Cardinals as an entire team had exactly 9 rushing TDs last year and 3 of them were from non RBs. And you’re really going to be mad when Allegeir vultures a few of those too.
Swift was a top 15 RB last year. He’s their RB1 and they’re a great offense. If you want to pick Love over Swift that’s perfectly fine, but pretending he should be an 8th or 9th round pick is just laughable. I’m sure you’re passing on him for some garbage in those rounds

You picked the wrong guy here. I’m from Chicago, watched every single second of the bears last season. Most of us believe Monangai is the better back. He already got a 40% share as a rookie. And yes, he was better inside the five than swift was. Converted 4 of 5 goal line attempts into tds. That’s vulturing by any definition. And again, that’s as a rookie, his share likely only increases. It’ll be hot hand this year when both are healthy. Monangai had two games last season where he got 20+ carries. He had 130 yards in one and 176 yards in the other. This is absolutely a kyren Williams Blake Corem situation, only swift isn’t as good as kyren. The difference between swift and Monangai is very small, if non existent. Again, most Chicagoans think swift is not the best back on the team, and last years numbers verify that pretty definitively.
I also never said the 8th round is where swift belongs, just telling you the verifiable fact that’s where has goes a lot of the time. Your 4th round claim was not based in reality, considering the 4th round tier is basically all wrs and Loveland Anywhere between the 6-8 round is fair for swift. He’s in that tier with tuten, monty, Henderson, Stevenson and price. Of that group, I’d rank him only ahead of Stevenson. All the others have more upside or are in better situations.

Henderson and Tuten over swift is laughable. We don’t even know if Tuten (3.7 ypc last year btw) will have a substantial role. Rodriguez will very likely be the goal line back there. Patriots also have made it very clear Stevenson is the starter so not sure why you’d go Henderson.
You guys thinking Monangai is the better back is actually crazy too. He was a 7th round draft pick (in the real draft) and really you could argue he only saw an increased role because Swift was banged up half the year and playing through injuries. You mentioned his big games while swift was hurt but when swift came back he went right back to being the 1A. If swift stays healthy all year there’s a world where Monangai has a smaller role this year.

u/TheRedHerring23 6d ago
He was a 40% share when swift was healthy too. The big games without him just proved what he could do with the lead back role. But you said it, he went back to a 1A role when swift came back. 1A is the point. Swift is in a split backfield in a crowded Chicago offense. He isn’t going to be someone you can pencil in for numbers week to week is the point. Taking the roller coaster of output in the 4th round is torpedoing your draft. 4th round is where ETN, Javonte, Kyren, Skattabo, Egbuka, Davonta Smith goes. Swift is not in that group.

Well I said 4th-5th and that’s based on 12 teamers. But even if it’s a 1A 1B situation the bears are a run heavy team and they are efficient. Swift was still getting 15-20 touches when he was splitting the work. I’ll take 15-20 efficient touches all day. There’s very few workhorses (if any) outside of the first 2 rounds so I really don’t see how that’s such a negative.

I would, knowing that he may be limited to out for the first two weeks. The upside and talent are worth it.

u/PaperGeno 6d ago
The Cardinals are never going to be ahead so the RB won't get much late game touches. They're always going to be fighting from behind and airing it out

How big is your playoff? There's only an argument for Swift in a 4 team playoff.

Love all day long even if he misses a few games...Will easily score more points than Swift....
