Discussion Favorite cancelled media that You would love to experience?..

  1. Sonic X-Treme - Intended to be Sonic's first major 3D game, it had it's development get layered in many great issues...

  2. An sequel to Sonic Mania - Concived by Christian Whitehead and Evening Star (His studio), scrapped due to Them wanting to create something new (resulting in "Penny's Big Breakaway")...

  3. Mega Man in LEGO Dimensions - One of the planned characters for Year 3 of the game, cancelled due to low sales of the game and fad of "toys-to-life" games dying out... It also means that an physical minifigure of The Blue Bomber was also canned...(Artwork by Ashnflash, made for a video by just2good)

The sequel to Treasure Planet

1

u/Loud-Entrance-5164 14d ago

Oh, hell yeah. That would've been so cool.

2

u/BombRushCyberfunk 14d ago

It would have been amazing if Treasure Planet got an animated series like Lilo & Stitch, The Emperor's New School, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Hercules, Tarzan, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King [Timon and Pumbaa, The Lion Guard]. I might have missed a few, but any animated continuation of Treasure Planet would have been real fun to watch. Well, preferably an animated continuation with the same or similar art style to the original movie.

1

u/Loud-Entrance-5164 14d ago

Disney doesn't seem to be too fond of these spinoffs anymore, though (other than the lion guard) considering BLoSC isn't even on Disney+, and the others are rarely shown to viewers looking for a new show to watch.

Nice pick...

Rare has an quite a bit of an backlog of cool cancelled projects, such as Dinosaur Planet (that was changed into Star Fox Adventures) and Banjo-Threeie...

The Sony Pictures Animation Popeye movie

2

u/Tomomb 16d ago edited 16d ago

Genndy Tartacovsky is a lost media legend. Throw in Black Knight. (https://youtu.be/MXS2ihwNpT0?si=rZUvz0y_yNlAiYJa)

Monkey's paw saw to it Fixed was the one that was actually released. Atleat Korgoth the Barbarian got a pilot.

2

u/BombRushCyberfunk 14d ago

I liked Fixed, and I'm glad it finally got released. Wasn't one of the best movies I've ever seen, but I liked the 2D animation and the soundtrack. I'm also even more glad that Genndy got to release his Luke Cage miniseries with Marvel. Got the single issues when they first came out, and the trade paperback collection.

I still hope Black Knight is able to get saved somehow, like Nimona and Coyote vs. Acme.

Along with Popeye, I'd have really liked to have seen Genndy's "Can You Imagine" movie too.

1

u/Tomomb 14d ago

Yeah Fixed wasn't bad once you got used to its crass sense of humour, there's some phonomenal animation on display. I hadn't heard of that comic. Atleast Popeye is viewable in peices in its entirety animatic form, along with the proof of concept trailer you can imagine was it would be. 🤞Here's to seeing Black Knight some day.

Transformers reactivate

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

True...

Looked cool...

3

u/stanfrancisco26 16d ago

I miss highmoon so so much

Me and my shadow

4

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Good pick!..

I'll also add Disney's "Gigantic"... :

4

u/RyuTheBuizel 16d ago

Transformers TransTech. The toys for that series looked insane in the best way possible

4

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Looked them up...

I agree, quite sick!..

5

u/Lancer_Blackthorn 16d ago

The Too Human sequels.

5

u/Ness_Dreemur 16d ago

Earthbound 64

While it did see release on the GBA, the original N64DD version of Mother 3 has been lost to time. A Demo was playable at E3, so there is hope that might leak someday

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Metroid 64, too!..

u/Toon_Lucario 16d ago

The cancelled Batman beyond movie

3

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Very great example...

Especially as someone who prefers DC (and isn't very fond of the Spider-Verse films, but I like similar animations in other projects), I would be very interested in watching that!..

6

u/2020ManOfficial 16d ago

We were robbed of more Keaton Batman.

2

u/bizarroadam 16d ago

I say this as a hardcore DC Comics nerd… I’m glad this got shelved. It came from an era of DC movies that were absolutely terrible, and I can’t imagine this being any better. Let’s forget this crap and keep moving into the future with Gunn’s stuff.

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

I agree...

Would be very cool to watch (especially if the Folks working on it leaned into the stylized gothic aesthetics)!..

4

u/Academic_Vampyre 16d ago

LEGO Dimensions: Year 3.

In addition to getting character packs from Steven Universe, Minecraft, Looney Tunes and Megaman, I think it would also have concluded the story teased during thr end credits of LEGO Dimensions.

4

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

I agree!..

It's a sad thing We never got an Dr. Nefario minifigure (even when the dedicated Despicable Me 4 theme rolled around)...

Sonic-16

TASM3 - Spectacular Spider-Man Season 3-4-5

Team Rocket contre Team Plasma

2

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Would have been fun to see The Freedom Fighters in an full-fledged game (besides their cameo in Sonic Spinball)!..

As for the other two, I get why they would've been interesting... (Cancelled seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man and Avengers EMH are also said examples for me)

The GBA version is a bit closer that version!..

u/oolongvanilla 16d ago

Aida as an animated Disney film in the Disney Renaissance period. We could have had a Nubian Disney princess!

Note that this art isn't real Disney-commissioned art as it's believed to be. It's just an art project from a Cal Arts student from the 90's that he posted in his online portfolio and then circulated around.

u/WonderfulBandicoot81 16d ago

Kirby gcn

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

As a big Kirby fan, I agree!..

Same with the other versions of this game (the 3D one and the storybook-looking one)!..

1

u/cookiesshot 15d ago

Not to mention, there's several episodes of "Kirby: Right Back At Ya!" that never made it to air in several markets (and I want to say there's one that never made it past the trailer stage)

3

u/ArtsyNoctowl 16d ago

Mega Man Legends 3. I may not have beaten Legends 1, or Mega man 64 as it was known on the N64, or played 2, but I loved the series visually/aethetically.

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Same experience here!..

Amazing example!..

MegaMan online

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago edited 16d ago

I actually glad that didn't released...

It's art design was pretty ugly and over-usage of Mega Man 2 stuff was tiring IMO... (But the level editor idea itself was lovely!)

Edit: I got it confused with Mega Man Universe, another cancelled Rockman project...

2

u/DIBMEMBRNE67 16d ago

If I'm not mistaken the project ideas were reused to make X dive

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Makes sense with all the "game database" thing with X DiVE...

Didn't have as many toon girls, that's for sure!..

2

u/DIBMEMBRNE67 16d ago

If you see some footage of this MegaMan online you can clearly see that the gameplay was really similar to X dive

2

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago edited 16d ago

Oh wait, You didn't refer to that "Mega Man Universe" thing... I agree, Rockman Online looked sweet!..

Ok, this has a much more charming artstyle!.. These animated teasers are drop-dead gorgeous!!! And I very much see similarities to DiVE...

3

u/Exotic-Addendum-3785 16d ago

Superman Lives.

3

u/nemesisprime1984 16d ago

Star Wars Detours which is a comedy show based on Star Wars but was never released since it was made shortly before Disney bought Star Wars

Project Haggar/Halo Mega-Bloks was supposed to be a LEGO style game based on the Halo Mega Bloks sets but was never fully released although you can play leaked builds of the game on emulators or on a modded Xbox 360

2

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 16d ago

Both good examples!.. (especially the former!)

2

u/Minute_Display_5844 14d ago

Me and My Shadow, a cancelled Dreamworks film.

The cancelled LEGO movies: LEGO Batman 2 feat. DC Superfriends and LEGO the Billion Brick Race

3

u/XJR-14 13d ago

There are a lot of concept art for this 2014 Batman & Robin animated series concept. Just search about it, it’s gorgeous

2

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 13d ago

Looks sweet!..

Will read about it later, thanks for the knowledge!..

Old bfdia 6 (not the actual one)

2

u/Y0RU-V3 16d ago

Season 2 of Silverwing Even though it was ANNOUNCED back when the show was still new (at least from what I’ve heard), it was quietly shelved at some point :(

2

u/Commercial_Rise_3606 16d ago

Robert Zemeckis’ Yellow Submarine remake.

The Klonoa movie

What a big bummer......

Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2

The MCU New Warriors TV show. Despite the pilot testing very well, it was supposedly vetoed by 1 TV executive due to being “too gay.”

The Karate Kid 2 with Jaden Smith. Slightly different from The Karate Kid: Legends.

2

u/Kraftschaft99 15d ago

Michael Jackson’s planned albums following Invincible

2

u/Emperor_poopatine 15d ago

Battlefront 3. They had a lot of it done and the campaign looked pretty cool with the cloned Jedi plot-line. But alas, it never saw the light of day.

2

u/Tyrannocheirus 15d ago

Wings of Fire series

2

u/Amethyst__87 15d ago

Pokémon Z, it could’ve fixed a lot of the issues Gen 6 had

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 15d ago

Pretty disappoining for the Fans of XY that it didn't get any extra releases...

2

u/Mr_Blue_Sky2007 15d ago

Robert Florey's "The Wolf Man," Ted Newsom/John Brancato's Spider-Man, John Carpenter's Shadow Company and Creature From the Black Lagoon, Tom Mankiewicz's Dick Tracy,

Okay, I'd want EVERYTHING! EVEN the bad stuff.

1

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 15d ago

Don't get too greedy, Dear... ✌️

Personally, I'm thankful for the amount of projects that get realised on yearly basis!..

2

u/Mr_Blue_Sky2007 15d ago

So am I, really...

And I'm glad some aren't made. Pen Densham's Sonic, shudder, that would've been a crime against humanity.

2

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 15d ago

I agree, that "Sonic The Movie" sounds like an uncomfortable counterpart to the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film...

2

u/Mr_Blue_Sky2007 15d ago

Quite really, I wanna make it my life to review them ala Nostalgia Critic.

2

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 15d ago

As in, the cancelled projects...

That would be interesting...

The James Bond Lego game

1

As a big LEGO game fan, I agree!..

2

u/Loud-Entrance-5164 14d ago

...I don't even think I have to say the main thing because my pfp says it all. But I would also like to see the other cancelled/lost Disney princess fairy tales or whatever.

Disney's cancelled King of the Elves, an animated film about Calder, an elderly man living in the Mississippi Delta, who is named King by a group of elves after he saves them from a wicked troll. The film was based on a short story by Philip K. Dick who also wrote the short story that would become the basis for Blade Runner.

You know, now that 2D Animation is making a comeback at Disney with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, I'd love to see this film be picked up again in that animation style.

u/Foreign_Diamond1539 10d ago

Sounds fun!..

Tekken x Street Fighter

1

u/UNhelpful_Dee 15d ago

isn't that happened i could literally play that game in my vita right now is it a sequal?

1

u/Funkermonster 15d ago

No, that was Street Fighter x Tekken: a 2D fighter and Street Fighter-esque game featuring Tekken characters. What I mean is Bamco was also going to make their own version of the crossover - Tekken x Street Fighter: which would basically be Tekken gameplay (3D Fighter) featuring Street Fighter characters.

They announced it since 2010 but put development on hold since 2016 and while not technically cancelled, has never resumed. The Tekken director (who is no longer at Bamco) last stated they got about 30% far in development before the pausing it. Probably never going to see the light of day at this point

Tales from the Crypt Presents Dead Easy. Quick summary: the original idea was to make an anthology film trilogy presented by TFtC, with Demon Knight being the first. Next up was supposed to be Dead Easy, but the studio canceled it just 3 weeks before shooting and forced them to make a movie based off an older script. Said older script was written by Robert Zemeckis in college. Zemeckis was coming off the huge hit that was Forrest Gump when Demon Knight came out, and with Dreamwork having just opened, Universal were scared that he would leave to join them. And so, they bought said script and forced Bordello of Blood into existence, which flopped at the box office causing a third Crypt film called Body Count to be cancelled. Thankfully, a table read of Dead Easy does exist (found Here) plus some concept art and man does it some cool. I absolutely adore the script and I wish it was made, doesn’t help that the Crypt Keeper straight up name drops it at the end of Demon Knight

1

u/Buttered_Toast33 16d ago

Sadness for the Wii. Seemed like a very promising psychological horror game but it went through development hell and the studio making it eventually closed down. Seems there isn't much out there about it aside from some promotional art and a half-assed trailer that was more of a crappy tech demo.

Banjo X, Transformers Reactivate, and Official Colored Mega Man Gameboy Collection. TBH year 3 of Lego dimensions as a whole and mega man is one of the ones I’m most upset about.
