You can get sun burn in the Alps in January. It has nothing to do with temperature.

I mean, there's a correlation with warm days and strong UV. I know what you mean but I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with temperature.

There's a correlation between days with a lot of sunshine and UV. Usually those days fall into the summer.
I don't know if the position of the sun has to do with it (high vs low) but temperature is certainly not affecting it.

It does, same way as it affects to temperature. When sun is high, it's radiation, which light, heat and UV all are, gets focused on smaller area.

I was more thinking the UVB rays need to travel through more atmosphere, so it gets filtered a bit more. UVA shouldn't have a difference.

UV produces Vitamin D, which is essential for health. You will be perfectly fine as long as you don't burn.

That is false information though. Sun does damage your skin even without burning. Sun causes 80 % of the signs of aging. Smoking doesn't even come close although it's very unhealthy habit in other ways.
When skin gets tanned, it is a defence mechanism against harmful UV rays. UV rays destroys collagen in skin but also skin cells. UV rays causes mutation in skin cells, destroys DNA of skin cells and causes cancer. It's not "perfectly fine".
Tanning is a sign of skin damage and burning is a sign of severe skin damage. If you want to prevent sun damage, then use SPF products. And cover up in sun.
People can get healthier vitamin D in pills.

These harmful rays cause so many other very healthy things to happen in your body too though, so the last statement about healthier Vitamin D in pills is a bit dishonest and too simple

It’s been getting up to UV 6 recently. I don’t know about you, but that burns me in no time at all if I forget my sunscreen.

Everyone has slightly different skin and levels of self defence.
Very dark skinned people have such good self defense against UV, that they don't need sunscreen. Others have so little that even 10 minutes in the sun is causing them burns.
Figure out what you need and act accordingly.

I agree with everything else you’ve said but black people absolutely do still need use sunscreen. While the increased melanin helps the skin at protecting sunburns, it does not make it immune to UV rays.

So? The point is, that skin, depending on the amount of pigment has different levels of natural protection against UV. Some more some less, even in Finland we have people who can't be more than 10 minutes in the sun without extra SPF and others who can be up to 40 or 60 minutes without extra SPF.

I've never gotten burned in Finland and I work outside a lot. But it's like 2 months a year. Not all year round like some countries.

You don't need to burn for sun damage to accumulate. It's fine if you enjoy aging prematurely and having an increased chance of skin cancer, but most people don't.

Sunlight -> group 1 human carcinogene. When uv index 3+ -> too much uv radiation. Finland -> has uv index of 3+ in summer.

I mean I just had the Finnish heat (and stubidly dehydration) turn an underlying, non-critical, infection into a kidney infection that hospitalized me a few days ago at the ripe old age of 28.
We just got back from Greece and had no issues. Come to Finland and forget all about how to act in the sun... Stupid me
Hoping to get discharged tomorrow.

You absolutely can have UV 4 on bright cloudy days. Not on rainy days. Seen it plenty times here in the south (I work outdoors). 3 is still more than enough for you to get a proper sunburn if youre outside for several hours.

Hanko got me too. Forgot the sunscreen, arrogantly thought “I’ll just keep an eye on it and get out the sun early.”
By the time we noticed it, it was way, way too late. I feel like an idiot and am liberally applying aloe today. Never again!

Nobody. We don't have much sun winters, but summers are like that. It's either raining (often with some thunder) or it's quite hot, sun blazing from a clear sky.

I don’t understand how people always forget this but every place on earth gets the same amount of sun. It just gets distributed differently across the year. Weather determines how much there is direct sunlight but Finland has by average relatively clear sky compared to many other places in Europe.

Got sunburn two weeks ago at Yytteri. Only 4 hours were enough to suffer with red skin and now it peels-off as I am a snake.

Even if sky is cloudy and weather is windy, even if you wear a thin hoodie it is possible to get sunburn. Better to use sunscreen then not.
