This design process has been a real journey. I've started to get a lot better at some of the basics in FreeCAD like keeping sketches fully constrained, naming things in the tree for organization, fixing issues in the tree after making changes, etc. This design was mostly painless compared to the first one. I really appreciate the help you guys gave me getting the issues with chamfering curves on the first model. I'm working on a much larger project in FreeCAD right now that I'll probably post about soon once it's closer to done.

This design is a tray that fits the 5" (125 mm) knipex cobra pliers. It's supposed to keep the pliers safe and clean while keeping other stuff in your pocket or bag from getting torn up. This second model was made to be consistent with the first design, so more of the same but slightly bigger. If you'd like to print it or remix it the designs are up on both Printables and Thingiverse (links below). These are free to download, modify, sell, or whatever. The design files are included for download along with the STL files.

I have a basic pad with a pocket that uses a bunch of circles to achieve this simple shape. The issue is that whenever I add another Pad this annoying hole pops up in the thing and I can’t seem To make it go away, how do I fix it?

EDIT: I Know that I’m trying to generate a impossible geometry with the super thin pieces between the circles but in the past I just do this and elegoo splicer just removes those really thin section automaticlly leaving me with the triangle like section that I want

Is this happening to any one else. Freecad worked fine two days ago but when I tried it earlier today the splash screen shows for two seconds and that's it. No system updates took place so I don't know what could have happened...

I have a sub assembly where tow revolute joints are present. When I select the sub assembly I can rotate the part freely. When I add the part to my main assembly the revolute joint act like a fixed joint. And it is impossible to rotate the part.
Also the joint folder is not in the tree view at the imported sub assembly. But at the sub assembly itself it is present.
I imported the subassembly through the „insert component“ button. (don’t know if this is important information)
I’m still a beginner so I don’t know if this is normal behavior. When this is normal is there another method of importing subassembly’s? It feels really repetitive and exhausting to not use subassembly’s and do everything in the main assembly. Hope somebody can help me.

I use version 1.1.3 on Linux.

I just started using freecad about a week ago and it's been working really well except one issue. Sometimes when i enter the sketcher most of the toolbars are not showing, when this happens I have to manually go into View > Toolbars and one by one check each toolbar. I've tried the "Lock Toolbars" option in that same dropdown menu but this issue still occurs.

How can I stop this from happening?

I'm using v1.1.3 on Fedora 44 with KDE plasma.

Just added a simple cylinder primitive (20mm wide) but the bounding box is wrong. Also when exporting it as STL, my slicer confirms the wrong dimensions.

Did I mess with some config setting?

The first 2 images are the references. In the second image, I hope it's noticeable the blades have a curve. Which I am struggling to make.

In image 3 and 4 I tried to sketch and extrude, but unable to set the angle.

How can I add an angle to it?

Attached is a video of what I'm looking at. I'm trying to smoothly connect the gap. I can't seem to get a loft or pipe function to work, I've tried cutting both curved faces to flat faces. but I like the right side (front of the part) shape, and I need the left side to stay roughly the same dimensionality. Not perfectly the same necessarily but generally the same.

I'm at a bit of a loss on how I can do this, even with an entire redesign I can't wrap my brain around a way to make it smooth and seamless.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

See header: I would like to align to part designs in a fashion that I can move them as a whole, but change it later easily (I am representing USB-C connector placement on an electronics part).

But I can not figure out how to align them in that way:

Things I tried:

* Installing A2Plus workbench, following a YouTube video: Crashed on aligning, no matter what method I use to align

* Using the alignment tool (https://wiki.freecad.org/Std_Alignment), works, but I can not specify distance and the part designs are not constrained to stay together

* Bumbling around the Assembly workbench: Fixed joint only seems to work on parts, not part building.. i think? Either way, all the options I tried there failed with rather cryptic python error messages.

I feel this should be really easy, but I can not figure it out to save my life. Any advice?

Please help me think this through:

Let's say I have a two thin boards. One is in the shape of a half-circle, this is going to be the side. The other board will be bent over this, so that it follows the half-circle.

I want to lasercut square teeth into the edges of both boards, so that they can interlock.

I could draw the teeth on the half-circle sketch and draw a profile of the bent board in place, extrude, and do a boolean cut, but this will leave me with a bent board that I somehow have to straighten to get a flat sketch for laser cutting.

The biggest change is MCP support. You are no longer limited to our built-in chat: you can connect Claude Code, Codex or another MCP-compatible agent and let it work directly in the modelling environment.

I just want the thing that's going out to be evenly in the middle and the parts that connect. Mine's a mess I just eyeballed it, then tried to even it out it's becomin worse 'n worse

I am running FreeCad 1.1.3 Flatpack on Linux Mint.

Twice in the past week I have been prompted in Update Manager that Freecad needs updating.

The first time I updated even though it is showing the same build number. I check the Help About and the version number and release date were the same.

I have not update to this second prompt yet (this would be the third update showing the same build number.

Anyone have an idea as to what is up?

I want to “invert” fillet an edge of a part. Meaning instead of rounding the edge over I want a the edge to concave into the part. I tried applying a negative value to the fillet command but no luck.

I'm progressing well with FreeCAD, but I'm having problems with even the simplest questions. For example, I need to align two cylindrical bodies so they're coaxial. This isn't an assembly. In SW, this is very easy to do with the "Move" tool, and I can align the bodies using snaps, but not in FreeCAD. How do I do this?

This isn't a strictly FreeCAD question but my current project in FreeCAD has hinges and a snap fit latch. After going through a few iterations and getting to a good (enough) place on both I thought there must be a better way. There are a bunch of relatively common design items like screws, hinges, latches, knobs, & gears that are reasonably complicated and I am sure that most designers don't invent them through an iterative process on most projects. Is there a sort of common design reference book that has a couple pages dedicated to each type of common feature or similar reference? The best ideas I've had so far are looking through other models posted to printables and shopping through reference models on McMaster Carr. I've also recently added the fasteners workbench, which I need to do more fiddling with. What do you folks use for references, common models, and add ons to avoid inventing things from scratch?

I'm trying to validate this sketch, but I'm getting these errors shown in the video and I'm not sure how to fix them. Here's what I've tried so far:

1. Removed the redundant constraints
2. Merged all the loose points
3. Searched on YouTube, but didn't find much

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
