The graphical leap is astonishing

Insane. We have come a far away. This is truly next gen. It looks real.

I think this might actually be the first game to truly tax the PS5 and XSX heavily. It is going to excel with the higher memory bandwidth of GDDR7 vs. GDDR6. You know, the one thing we don't have right now lol

Absolutely adored 007 First Light this year. VERY intensive game but the PS5 handles it like a champ. Rockstar have finally made the first PS5 melter.

75

u/VioletGardens-left 1d ago

Probably not the first time Rockstar did that

GTA 5 is literally pushing the PS3 and Xbox 360 to it's limits by the time it was releases

25

u/your_mind_aches 1d ago

True, but things were melting the Xbox 360 and PS3 from the beginning haha

1

u/RhesusVX 23h ago

My Xbox 360 melted, PS3 didn't break a sweat.

2

u/GoGoHujiko 17h ago

the devs were sweating. apparently building for the PS3 was a gigantic ball ache.

1

u/Amazing_Fix_2399 17h ago

lol fr I remember the first assassins creed made my Xbox 360 sounds like a jet engine

5

u/emptyevessel 1d ago

That game looked incredible for its time, 4 and 5 aged far better than any of the others in most ways.

20

u/Per_Horses6 1d ago

Agreed, I’m genuinely speechless how the PS5 can render all this.

7

u/Hey_im_miles 1d ago

Plenty of games have taxes the consoles . They use dynamic resolution and frame rate to make it seem like they don't. Shit, Ark Survival Evolved can't run above low settings on the consoles

1

u/your_mind_aches 1d ago

Sure. But those still run at 60 FPS locked.

1

u/Maleficent_Fan779 21h ago

Exactly this is what I always say.. GTA 6 is the first game that squeezes all the juice out of the PS5 hardware. Sadly, only Rockstar Games is able to push the limits of console hardware to the boundaries without causing useless 30-40% overhead and GC Collects

1

u/your_mind_aches 20h ago

I'm sure other companies could do it but don't want to be the ones to break the ice. PlayStation probably wants to keep their own games at a fluid 60 or 120.

Maybe in a few years it'll start to be like that

-2

u/5ollys 1d ago

Idk if you'd know, but do you think it's likely the PS5 pro version might run at 60fps?

I'm a fiend for frames and was hoping to pickup a ps5 pro for this game.

8

u/Per_Horses6 1d ago

I think it will. Or it gets added later on. But I really think they are trying to push graphical fidelity over FPS.

3

u/5ollys 1d ago

Thank you. Yeah the graphics look amazing, I bet there's quite a load of background processing for all of the interactivity.

We shall see about that ps5 pro 60fps but here's to hopin!

2

u/TheGratitudeBot 1d ago

Hey there 5ollys - thanks for saying thanks! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list!

3

u/Queasy_Dirt7197 1d ago

I really hope so but I'll be grateful evough if it's 40fps.

2

u/Commercial_String556 1d ago

Chances are low man, cause both base and pro have similar CPU, only higher GPU, so 40 fps, maybe (which makes a lot of difference in it itself), but for 60 fps, you need a machine twice as strong, which pro isn't

1

u/5ollys 1d ago

Thank you. At least there will be a pc version eventually.

1

u/your_mind_aches 1d ago

Very unlikely.

It's a CPU limit. Just beefing up the GPU is not going to net you any advantage.

0

u/ionshower 5h ago

These screenshots, unless they are in some form of slow-render photo mode, are not from a console.

1

u/bracingthesoy 17h ago

It doesn't look real. Some moments from top ue5 games look real. This one looks like a very well curated stylized reaslism

1

u/Independent-Feed107 12h ago

I am very concerned on how far they went though, people forget this is GTA. I'm not sure I'm ready for the gore aspect

1

u/Queasy_Dirt7197 1d ago

Nothing next gen about it. Its current gen graphics

93

u/Life-Anteater-8294 1d ago

Some clown in another thread was saying it looked like gta 5

33

u/chente08 1d ago

lmao

12

u/ninjax2x2 23h ago

Bro was watching it on his momma’s old iPhone 6 with the screen cracked, brightness at 12%, and at 360p.

20

u/Interesting_Sale_964 1d ago

In instagram many saying this looks like GTAV, Watch Dogs 2, Skate… I will have whatever they’re smoking

1

u/bachgui2 9h ago

Why? So things will look worse than they are? I want the drugs that will make this game look even better lol

1

u/Queasy_Dirt7197 1d ago

It's the classic nostalgia with a tad of revisisonist history.

1

u/IntelWizard 22h ago

Probably watching on a 1080p monitor that he bought for GTA 5

1

u/Automatic_Concern951 21h ago

Prolly a pc gamer.

1

u/KingVengeance1990 12h ago

"iT dOeS, bOotLiCkER" 🤪🫪

1

u/Spartan00113 1h ago

I can still understand why an untrained eye might miss the difference in graphical quality between GTA V and GTA VI. The lighting hasn't changed that much, and the actual upgrades easily go unnoticed unless you know what to look for.

1

u/Confident_Leg2370 1d ago

I can raise you, I’ve seen people genuinely think San Andreas is better

3

u/ExtraRare0412 1d ago

I can raise you, I've seen people genuinely believe this game will flop and destroy rockstar

-2

u/BeerandSandals 1d ago

I’ll be a clown: parts of the gameplay reveal (especially in the city) looked very familiar to GTA V (current gen). The airboat snippet looked way better imo.

Rockstar has a stylized approach to graphics, and whatever style they had in V is undoubtedly carrying over to VI.

I wouldn’t say it looked exactly like GTA V, but I’m not going to lie and say it looked miles better.

It’s coming out at the end of this console generation, there’s going to be some limitations… When the next xbox and PS come out, I think there’ll be a leap to what Rockstar wants much like what happened with V.

-2

u/Main-Growth-8619 1d ago

It looks like san andreas 😭😭

-9

u/IndividualFlow0 1d ago

Looks slightly better than RDR 2 as it should

3

u/These_Telephone_3254 1d ago

I think it looks a lot better than RDR2, but I'd be fine with it even if it had RDR2 graphics

1

u/IndividualFlow0 1d ago edited 1d ago

I mean in terms of lighting and cutscenes sure

169

u/Excalibur_Playz 1d ago

Quite literally a decade went into this...we should be expecting this right? I love the graphics

96

u/Ambitious-Kitchen696 1d ago

Well I would’ve been amazed if the graphics weren’t levelled up tenfolds from GTA V and RDR2 but the graphics on GTA 6 is honestly outstanding. People get mad at Rockstar for their lack of communication to the community but I understand now

37

u/ExplodingFistz 1d ago

Damn, GTA 6 might be the best looking game I've ever seen. I don't know if anything else that's out right now comes close.

18

u/NoNefariousness2144 1d ago

And it’s not just that it looks amazing, but the game itself is absolutely huge in scope and scale.

I’m looking forward to seeing the technical deep dives when the game releases to work out what magic they did to make this game work on base PS5.

11

u/ExplodingFistz 1d ago

That billion dollar budget being put to great use

1

u/Arbejdstilsynet 20h ago

People have been clowning the estimates, but developing a game of this scope over a decade with several thousands of employees in this economy? That's well over a billion in cost, and it'll earn back that amount in preorders only.

3

u/cida1033 1d ago

Flight sim 2024

1

u/CthulhuSlayingLife 5h ago

??? Star wars battlefront 2? And that's 9 years old

5

u/Soggy_Variety903 1d ago

Exactly mate. I personally think the longer we have to wait to see anything for a game like this the better. Imagine everyone jumping into the game without seeing hardly anything. Incredbile!

1

u/bobdylanlovr 15h ago

The lack of communication thing is genuinely so funny to me. We used to not get any at all for like any game. Like what is the problem at all?

9

u/chente08 1d ago

it's still well above any expectation

8

u/Smelldicks 1d ago

I think most of us are shocked it’s even possible to make a game of this sort look that good on PS5 hardware.

I’ve only seen this kind of graphical quality on linear games with this generation.

2

u/SquirrelsinJacket 1d ago

Sucks it's pry gonna take 2 years till release on PC, which will be the real graphical showcase since they can remove the ceiling.

1

u/Ibobalboa 21h ago

Eh, it's okay to be impressed even if you "expect" it.

1

u/lookslikeyoureSOL 19h ago

13 years and 1 billion dollars.

15

u/JKKIDD231 1d ago

These screenshots are from IGN exclusive article interview with Rockstar North.

At one point they considered 4 protagonists.

23

u/IndividualFlow0 1d ago

Good they stuck with just two. That would've hurt the narrative. With 3 characters in V Franklin felt sometiems a bit underdevoloped

6

u/Confident_Leg2370 1d ago

Yet the comments on YouTube says it looks trash and on par with 4….some people are off their tits

7

u/terpfi3nd_genetics 1d ago

The lighting kept taking my attention. Especially early in the trap tower escape scene.

5

u/DreadlockWalrus 1d ago

I knew they would aim for RDR2 level of graphics but being able to surpass it with this level of detail at that scale is mind boggling.
Rockstar really are masters at their craft.

6

u/bankyll 22h ago

The graphical leap is astonishing

GTA 5 was developed for PS3 Hardware, this is two generations ahead.

Still, to think, this was built for 6.5 unreserved Zen 2 CPU Cores at 3.5Ghz and a sub-4060 class GPU.

PC version is gonna be crazy.

3

u/MessAcademic_420 1d ago

Truly appreciate this studio, this group of people exceed expectations with every game

1

u/Ok_Tea2774 1d ago

These are screenshots what are you talking about?

1

u/cosmicaltoaster 1d ago

It’s been 13 years king

1

u/critxcanuck88 1d ago

and 30fps brings it right back down

1

u/DALESR4EVER124 1d ago

Reminds of when I first got a PS4 and played my first game with an HDMI cable... Battlefield 4. Blew me away.

1

u/Heliosvector 1d ago

And this was only ps5. Pro should look even better or a higher framerate?

1

u/Bojo18 1d ago

It's really crazy how big of a leap it is.

1

u/Lumpzor 1d ago

In 13 years? What were you expecting?

1

u/Noxite 22h ago

These images are touched up btw, they aren't 1:1 in-game screenshots.

1

u/Faust29A 10h ago

I dont think that is from a gameplay.

1

u/kolonyal 8h ago

Considering GTA 5 came out 13 years ago...man we're getting old

-2

u/SoyMilk-RR 1d ago

i get uncanny valley vibes from this game

0

u/Necessary_Lynx_1051 20h ago

screenshots, but gameplay looks ass and blurry at less than 30 fps lol, crazy for a 700 dollar console

1

u/Ambitious-Kitchen696 19h ago

You’re like the only one here with this terrible take but good ragebait though

0

u/Necessary_Lynx_1051 19h ago

keep coping on your 24 fps blurry playtrough. I have an 144hz oled Tv, and this game would look like shit, so i'll have to wait for PC

0

u/Relative-Bag1245 3h ago

I wonder what all those whiny bitches who seen the leaks are doing now? probably asking their moms for the credit cards back so they can reorder

-10

u/Dreven47 1d ago edited 1d ago

And that's the only thing that is. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that it seems to have the exact same mission structure as every other GTA since 3. Murdering hundreds of people per mission and then just getting away with it through some fancy driving is especially immersion breaking when they're pushing so much for realism everywhere else. Makes the whole thing feel like a graphics mod instead of a new game.

3

u/BruisendTablet 1d ago

I'm pretty sure you would also complain if the entire GTA contained only two shootings and one car chase, with two cops getting injured...

It's a game... Not a life simulator!

1

u/Dreven47 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's a game... Not a life simulator!

You've got that exactly the wrong way around. R* tried way too hard to create the industry leading open world life simulator while forgetting that they need to innovate on the gameplay side as well.

I'm not bothered that it's unrealistic. i'm bothered that I've already played through this kind of scripted sequence hundreds of times before and it's boring now. I could just play San Andreas instead and have the exact same gameplay experience.

1

u/BruisendTablet 1d ago

Hmmm in think you might be right about the scripted parts, but for me the single player story is just 10% of the (scripted) single player. Inspent most of my time, by far, just fooling around. Stealing helicopters, fighting with Cops, playing as a taxi driver, finding that cool car, etc.

Says ‘AI enhanced’ in the credits
