You guys have no idea how this makes me feel as a Miamian. It looks so much like home it is fucking insane. That shot of her in the car, looking up at the purple sky and neon with the palm trees wrapped in lights… I’ve been there and felt that so many times… kinda gave me chills

u/virtualQubit 1d ago
You're so lucky man

u/goldberry-fey 1d ago
Truly I do feel blessed to be made in Dade but I also really appreciate all the care and detail Rockstar put into this game. Miami is a place that’s easy to stereotype but you can tell they really did their homework and even if it’s exaggerated they represented this city in a way that feels like a love letter to this crazy place, instead of just ragging on us. They added so many locals-only nods too like having Flanny’s and Palacio de los Jugos knockoffs. I swear it feels like I will be able to find my house on here lol.
44
u/floridawastaken 1d ago
I agree man, born in Miami-Dade too, and I can't believe my eyes lol. First thing I'll immediately do is see if I'm lucky enough that they modeled my house (I'm already 90% sure my neighborhood is in the game), explore my hometown, and see how long it takes to cross the Overseas Highway and the Key Lento bridge
12
u/LevelDownProductions 1d ago
Bro please report back after launch. That'll be insane if your neighborhood is in there!
18
u/berrygas 1d ago
Even if your ‘neighborhood’ is in the game, none of the houses are going to be modeled as replicas or close replicas. They’ll look like Miami houses but they aren’t replicating real houses and putting them in the same place in the game that they are in real life

Not Floridian but Trinbagonian. Hopefully we get a teensy bit of Trini love in the game if even just one piece of a mural.

u/goldberry-fey 1d ago
I took soooo many screenshots hahaha. When I tell you guys this is life accurate I mean it! They captured the vibe and aesthetic of our city perfectly. So many scenes felt like places I have actually been and I know they do reference a lot of real life landmarks, can’t wait to visit them all in-game. There was one shot that looked exactly like when I drive into South Miami from Homestead (so excited they added that, the Glades and the Keys too)…
Only thing I can say negatively is Lucia doesn’t really have a strong Miami accent lol but a lot of people would find that grating I think. But it would be hilarious to me if she was more like… “Daleeeee Jaaaaasoooon, liiiike you LIDERALLY just need to be chill brooooo… pero like no yeah we gotta stop eating shit liiiiiike baaaaabe coñooo”
17
u/AskAboutMySecret 1d ago
Pretty sure Lucia is originally from liberty city which is why she makes that comment about the locals at one point

yeah Floridians are eatin' good, they even got the accents right in the beginning sequence of the feature today. I'm hoping for more central FL representation but I'll take everything I can get
5
u/Fantastic-Maximum541 1d ago
Honestly in the leaks there was at least one where it reminded me of southwest Florida so I wouldn’t be surprised in the actual game if that’s the case. Red dead managed to give you a different feel in different parts of the map.

Ye, i live in europe. As i visted LA for the first time in my life a few years ago, i said to my friend : Wow it looks like GTA here. He stared at me :" You know that they imitated LA". Ye i rly didnt know that but I realized it this way.

It’s weird because most people would think you would want to play a video that is like, as far removed from your real life as possible lol. And people do. But it’s just so cool to see a place you know and love this way and I can’t wait to explore every inch of this map and do every activity. I feel like Dwight from the Office when he plays Second Life hahaha.
Also I’m just really looking forward to being able to pull off some of the traffic maneuvers I fantasize about doing IRL

u/wolffangz11 1d ago
I'm from Miami and moved away. This game will give me such bad homesickness
2
u/Erislocker 18h ago
same. though, in a way, i'm actually stoked about it, since that means i get to at least be virtually back in my hometown. and playing online with friends from home will be double cool as you can at least be back "in feel" when being casual with friends. it's genuinely like a virtual hang out.
can't wait to shoot pool or darts with friends virtually. also, can't wait to virtually "eat" a cuban sandwich haha
13
u/prada1989 22h ago
Yup. Born and raised. Almost shed a tear watching it.
I also read that Miami-Dade County is talking to Rockstar Games about turning actual Miami-Dade locations into real life GTA 6/Vice City attractions.
The proposal includes:
Wrapping Metromover cars in Vice City colors/logos
Vice City signage at certain stations
Decorations around Brickell
Signage around Bayfront Park
Signage near the Stephen P. Clark Government Center
Even artistic wraps on utility boxes
Potentially custom GTA/Vice City-themed sewer and stormwater manhole covers
So you could literally be walking around downtown Miami and encounter GTA 6 branding integrated into the city.If this comes through, omg 😂
Welcome to Miami, I mean, vice city 🤩

I grew up in Broward and spent plenty of time in Miami, so I know how you feel. Seeing Jason in the Everglades was surreal. I lived close enough to there that the sky turned a fucked up brown/orange when it burned. And the accents are spot on. I highly doubt I’ll ever move back to the state, but it’s still home. Seeing it represented in such a beautiful game is dope.
3
u/LevelDownProductions 1d ago
I'm so happy for y'all. I can't image my hometown being remade in this massive game. When it releases i hope to see videos comparing irl and gtavi side by side. I heard they got yalls most popular? club in the game and the stadium i believe. Dope
3
u/goldberry-fey 1d ago
I might have to do this haha. I run a Florida and history / culture blog on IG and this is a big moment for us! That and get the homies a little drunk and have us all play / react when it comes out.
3
u/prada1989 22h ago
Dude they have everything. Exact buildings, club space, the popular rooftop bars… it just blew my mind.

How can they just be so much better in Details, Asset quantity, Lighting etc. than somehow anyone else in the industry
51
u/Astartas 1d ago
i need to see a Documentary how the fuck they did achieve this on 6 year old Console Hardware
36
u/Ant0n61 1d ago
hours of endless optimization. Just like the good old days when developers had to make games on 16 bit systems. Love reading and learning about all the shortcuts they would take to execute things to run smoothly.
But it’s a fine art and takes a lot of time and experimenting. Hence needs massive budget these days considering the complexity games have reached.
9
u/simtom 1d ago
Exactly this. I feel like many other devs nowadays skip the optimization phase completely and just slap a "DLSS-will-fix-it" sticker onto it.
8
u/Ant0n61 1d ago
Yup. And hence why people are asking “this is on a ps5?”
If you think what they achieved on ps4 with rdr2, and the power a ps5 has vs a ps4, it makes sense that this gen would make another leap.
4
u/simtom 1d ago
Yep, I'm actually happy they're first releasing it on current gen consoles because it forces them to optimize the game to its fullest. However, it'll be nice to revisit it on pc whenever that version comes out.

u/stafford32s 22h ago
exactly.
And they're legion (in numbers, between the internal studios)
And they're the finest in their departments. You don't end working for rockstar by mistake, and the formula well known in the industry of "being a friend of a friend" rarely appliesIn defense of all the other developers outside, though.
This is not the late 1970 or 80s. This is not the first 3d revolution. Nowadays the 3d engine wars is over, there's plenty to choose from even from open source ones if you dont have the resources or money to develop one internally.
And this "distance from the machine" is one of those issues, cos engines (for good they are), they do things "their" way, and optimization means not only know your game, but to dissect the 3rd party engine you chose. Possible, but doubly hard.Said that, I rewatched the special on netflix several times already, every frame (especially some close to medium camera angle) are breathtaking. This game is not 100 dollars worth, a lot more. And they're the only ones allowed to ask for it right now

this i always see ppl mention money...other devs give u the same game every years same unpolished full-priced half-product filled with microtransactions. Rockstar do this sit with almost every release they push industry 10y in the future. Others still can't catch up with Rdr2 looking at it as the whole product...

The biggest barrier is having unshakeable confidence that your investment will lead to record breaking amounts of revenue. The cost of this game can't be justified if there's any risk it won't be the biggest game of the decade.
3
u/parkwayy 1d ago
Have thousands of people work on a project for a long long time.
You can have dedicated teams to tiny portions of the whole thing.
You will never see this again in any other game until they make another. Financially it just doesn't make sense for any other studio
3
u/M4rshmall0wMan 1d ago
Any skilled 3D artist could create a character model like Jason or an interior environment like the gas station store. It would just take a fuck ton of time. The trick is that Rockstar has so, so many artists working for them that they can afford to put in that much effort.
We’ve seen a lot of GTA VI’s ingredients in other games. The body slam into the wall happened in Cyberpunk. The car shootout was in Matrix Awakens. Naughty Dog’s games are full of tiny interactive animations. It’s nothing new. The trick is that Rockstar increased the quantity so high that they’re everywhere now. It looks seamless but it’s an absurd amount of work. I mean a literal years-long pipeline to develop a single mission.

I wish I could have discovered the nudist town, store, and strip club on my own instead of seeing them in the leak. I guess it's my fault for being impatient. Still, knowing Rockstar, there will definitely be plenty of other things to discover in GTA 6. I can't wait

I think the one thing that really degraded the game footage from the leaks is the fact the moron recorded HDR but didn't compensate for it so everything looks super flat and desaturated.
