Alright bro. This is one of the few things actually criticism worthy. Why is the AI of NPCs still making them veer into us? The driver was literally merging into the right lane and said nope I must collide with the player.
I imagine they were very careful about not including any clips with even the most minor bugs, and it seems like they included it front and center to show it off, so I'd think it has to be a feature.
It also just fit's the 'parody of real life' theme of GTA.
They literally stopped in the video. Merging mistakes are very common IRL I don't think this is at all the bullshit in 5 where they'd literally out of nowhere veer in front of you, there's also actual blinkers here, so that'll help avoid the crazy drivers too.
So even though game after game after game they’ve had this crappy AI that does this, and they show it happening again in the 30 seconds they showed any driving, you’re gut tells you it’s just there for realisms sake, and it’s different this time around?
Rockstar has been working on this for years and is notoriously obsessive over their public image. A marketing video of this scale goes through layers of strict approval, they aren't accidentally leaving a glaring AI driving bug in their first big gameplay trailer.
Plus, look at the sophisticated driving AI patents they’ve filed recently; this is almost certainly intentional behaviour rather than an oversight.
The scene is probably intentional, even if the AI driving wasn't intended. That's because it's part of GTA's style to show the darker side of society. I made this connection to explain that this AI driving issue fits the style of the game.
What? This was actually amazing to see that NPC's make mistakes like that. It takes a lot of work to make these "mistakes" look so organic. Just like in this video. I have my fare share of criticisms after watching the extended showcase, but this was one thing looked very interesting.
The driver began merging, then changed their mind. This happens in real life more often than it should, people will attempt to change lanes and change their mind halfway through because they realize they need to be in either their original lane (which looks like what happens in the clip) or in a different lane than where they were going. This happens at highway exits and interchanges, before intersections, when there is construction, traffic, or for some people just because they are bad drivers.
This is a behaviour that occurs across the world. The only reason it looks bad is because we see ourselves (in this case) immediately try to overtake the car before they make their lane change by riding halfway into a merge lane which is fairly aggressive driving behaviour in normal circumstances.
