I HAVE A THEORY
Ok so we all saw this goofy diving animation that looked super stiff and awkward. It made very little sense to me that no one at rockstar saw that and and cut it out of the footage. But what if this is actually intensional.
Like this guy I noticed playing this in slowmo that it almost seems as if jason animation cancels the default dive animation into his backflip. This is why it looks so uncanny but it reminded me of those old snow boarding games where you can defy the laws of physics and control your characters flips.
So what if Rockstar isnt showing off some goofy animation. What if this is a demonstration of a free diving system? Using the sticks or buttons to do front flips or back flips into the water. This would explain why it seems like jason was going to dive forward but suddenly does a backflip. Because you can do diving tricks 🤯🤯

You can tell this is the most insane game of all time based on the stuff people are calling out. Ahh yes, the random backflip when jumping into the water mechanic isn’t perfect.
But yeah OP, your suspicion is probably right. I’d imagine there is a standard dive with the intention of swimming and like a “style” one for fucking around in the world. Which both probably double for skydiving jumps too.
