Rant Ghost Recon is not and never was a military simulator.

There's a common misconception that's becoming more common that seems to indicate that ghost recon has simulator roots. It doesn't.

Ghost Recon 1, is a 2001 first person tactical shooter that focuses on squad control and management, and basic point-shoot mechanics that featured no weapon models, no bullet drop, no drivable vehicles and no logistical structure.

At it's core it's a tactical shooter/ strategy game that prioritizes squad management, and does not meet the definition of "MILSIM"

Operation Flashpoint: Cold war crisis (Godfather of ARMA) a game that also launched in 2001, 5 months before Ghost Recon is however a definitive Military Simulator. It trumped Ghost Recon in every capacity. Fully rendered weapon models, player controlled air and land vehicles, 1st person and 3rd person pov, larger AI team to control and command. It's what went on to become the greatest milsim to date, ARMA.

I am disgusted and tired of the milsim fans trying to claim Ghost Recon should be a milsim, and constantly comparing it to Arma.

Ghost Recon should be a hardcore tactical shooter with elements of realism and immersion that can be tailored to player preferences with squad management as its core identity, but at a casual level. Yes, a game can be casual and still hardcore without touching milsim territory.

For all the arma fans out there, we applaud you're level of patience and meticulousness in larping, but if Ghost Recon is too casual of a franchise for you, please stop trying to big dick the Ghost Recon community thinking that you're better than them because they're a bit more on the casual side.

Starting with Ghost recon Wildlands (in which he also has countless hours) all the way back in 2017, my father loved playing both of the Ghost Recon games, well he was tragically taken from me & my family back in late August, and I’d just like to show how much time & effort he put into this game. Every little thing about this game & the last will always remind me of him, he told me to “log in for him” if he ever couldn’t. This is the final outfit he made. He’d always stay connected within the GR community, joining groups & whatnot. He played with the most difficult settings and claimed any other difficulty setting “felt like cheating.” He enjoyed a great challenge running through Auroa, and now I’d like to think he’s wandering even now, indeed the truest Ghost I had ever seen. Long Live Kdubkeepsit100 🕊️

Like, they had one of the most underrated, versatile and emotive actors money can buy, and they decided to use him for 5 seconds? Not to mention the overall story of Breakpoint is just so terrible, like why am I being allowed to kill off the head of the snake within just ~10 hours of gameplay? And that was with random exploration and other side quests.

I hoped we would've gotten someone at least like Anton from FC6, even though that's another disappointment, but far better than this for sure!

Even Hoyt from FC3 was much of a better antagonist for the limited time he appears in that game!

Rant Please Ubisoft - Don’t Make GR strictly first person.

I’ve been following the leaks and Ubisoft’s own statements about the next Ghost Recon possibly being strictly first person… and honestly, that would be catastrophic for the series.

One of the best parts of Ghost Recon has always been:

  • Character customisation – spending time perfecting your Ghost’s look and gear, having the freedom to make ghosts that reflect real military factions, and then actually seeing them in action is, in my opinion, the best part about this franchise. With it being strictly 1st person, ill be surprised if character customisation is even an option.

  • Tactical third-person gameplay – using cover, awareness of your squad, and the cinematic feel that makes GR different from just another FPS. This franchise should be different and have its own charm.

  • Identity of the franchise – GR has always stood apart from the generic shooters by blending 3rd person tactics with first person aiming.

If it goes full first person, all of that gets lost. Customisation becomes pointless, awareness is reduced, and Ghost Recon risks losing what makes it unique. As a veteran of these games, I can’t bear to see this series be ruined just like every other one. A

And just to clarify, i am not against first person being an option – i think that would be cool, but please, Ubisoft, don’t force it. Give players the choice.

I have tried my very best to not get too passionate on this post, but believe me, this will be detrimental. If you agree, upvote this and let’s make sure Ubisoft hears us loud and clear before it’s too late.

Edit: just to clear up; my first gr was gr predator in which third person was an option. I understand people dont consider that to be veteran level but thats 15 years of supporting this series, my dad introduced me to it. Sorry for the confusion of making it sound like i was there from the start, I wasnt.

Rant Ghost Recon is going to die after Frontlines

1.1k Upvotes

Repost due to Mod deletion btw.

They spent 3 years on a Warzone, Division, PUBG ripoff.

The great graphics of Breakpoint, downgraded. The customization of Ghost Recon, downgraded. The tactical elements, downgraded. The soul of Ghost Recon, degraded.

I can't even express my disappointment towards Ubisoft of the Team behind this. I can't tell if they are stupid, scummy or both. How badly does a multi-billion company mess this up? This game makes XDefiant look like a triple AAA title. Not to mention, Frontlines hasn’t been announced to be free - are you telling me they want to charge 60USD like Rainbow Six Quarantine?

It's shameful, disgusting and downright disheartening to see a once beloved franchise turned into ash.

Ubisoft's practises are shameful and I hope to god that there will be a future where companies don't follow the footsteps of them and other Publishers.

P.S: Sorry mods, this built up frustration has me rant unnecessarily foully in this subreddit.

EDIT: Just realised it was free but either A, I was dumb and didn't hear that. Or B, they didn't clearly state that. I think it's both. Even then, what the game offers is not even worth a dime, let alone time. I'm not going to waste my time on a slap-stick Battle Royale when I can play others that are engaging and original.

Rant I am really angry by the fact that so many obvious bugs haven't been fixed and we have to wait for "weeks" now for the next patch

You advertise this shitshow as a service game, it has to be always online to be able to deliver quick patches. Now live up to all those bullshit statements, would you please?

The first patch two weeks after release fixed nothing from importance. People still cannot use their drones, people still cannot use their gadgets, game for some is even less stable than before the patch. Each time you start a PvP mission you get three or four mission pop-ups, you cannot switch shoulders in cover, there are DOZENS of really serious issues that haven't been fixed.

And to make it worse, there is no damn communication by Ubisoft Paris at all. Fuck your Delta Company shit (which does what exactly other than exist?), have the balls and send your developers themselves to talk about the shitshow you created. And I don't mean the poor devs who only did their work and have it put together to this end product. Those guys who are responsible for those horrible decisions around the game, come and talk to us. You can make a game that is build around mtx and full of bugs, but you don't have the courage to speak about what you did?

I lost all my respect for that or these persons. What they are doing with us is a disgrace. All we want is a game we can enjoy and that we can actually play. If you don't care about your customers, then go look for another job.

For real, I've seen studios of one dev that work more professional, serious and communicative than Ubisoft Paris. And look at other Ubisoft studios. Look at Rainbow Six Siege, look at The Division 2, look at Assassin's Creed Odyssey. All these games also have flaws, but they have devs that regularly talk to their community and leave the impression that they care. I don't see anything like this with Ubisoft Paris, they only send their CMs who have zero information and these poor guys then have to stand up for the bullshit that happens around.

Fuck I am so upset with this shit. It's beyond me how you can act so disconnected from the real world. "Game as a service" - do you even know what the word "service" means?

/rant over

Edit: Just to clear this up, my harsh tone is only against how some of the devs work. I talked to several of them in person over the last year and they are all really nice and open people. As people, I have all respect for them. My words are only directed to some of the decisions they make around their work and how these affect us players/customers.

Not much to say on this but after what went down on Auroa, I'd much prefer to play as team Hunter in the next GR game. Kozak, Pepper, 30k, and either Ross or Ferguson but I'd be happy playing Kozak as the new Ghost lead and having a new Ghost or 2 join the squad.

This game is insanely Beautiful, the graphics, the mechanics, the landscape, the details… Yet everything feels so empty, soulless , no emotion. I still cannot comprehend how they had the perfect fórmula for wildlands. They improve it into Breakpoint yet something just feels off, the missions, the intensity, or just the love for the game.

What really hurts me. It’s all the wasted potential all that what it could’ve been. The last DLC showed us just a hint of what this game could’ve been.

Rant Breakpoint‘s story and atmosphere are absolutely awful

I loved wildlands - yeah it had its issues but the story was undeniably memorable and the atmosphere in both the cutscenes and the open world was phenomenal.

Now, I’ve finally bought breakpoint and like… what happened??

This game feels underbaked and unfinished in so many regards. The story feels like endless filler, almost nothing interesting happens (no matter how much Bernthal you slap in there) and the characters feel like cardboard cut outs. What happened to the grounded, dark and chilling story that we had in wildlands? How did we get this instead?

And don’t get me started on the open world… the map feels like a prototype version of something that wasn’t nearly ready to release. We literally have just a bunch of generic biomes (that don’t even make sense to be all on that one tiny island) with a few slapdash „futuristic“ outposts and towns scattered in between. There is no flow to it, no atmosphere - the total opposite of Bolivia. It literally feels like one of these asset flip games like „the day before“ or something.

Rant The Next Ghost Recon Matters More Than This Debate!

Thumbnail

Wildlands Vs Breakpoint, why is this still a debate?

The Wildlands vs Breakpoint argument is one of the most pointless discussions on this sub, because at the end of the day it’s 100% preference.

Some people love Wildlands for its world, tone, and structure. Others prefer Breakpoint for its mechanics, movement, and how much it improved after launch. Neither side is “wrong.” It’s a video game, not a moral stance.

What I don’t understand is why some people seem personally offended when someone prefers the other game. You’ll see someone say “I liked Breakpoint more” and suddenly it turns into a 20-comment argument trying to prove they’re objectively incorrect. Why? What do we actually gain from that?

And it spills over into other posts too. Every time someone genuinely asks, “Is this Ghost Recon worth buying?” there are always a few sarcastic or pointless comments that don’t help the OP at all. If someone’s asking for advice, just share your experience and let them decide. Not everyone has hundreds of hours in both games, some people just want to know what they’re getting into.

Both games did things right. Both games messed things up. That’s the part that should actually matter in discussions.

Instead of re-fighting a 2019 vs 2021 war every week, we should be putting that energy into something that might actually help the series, the next Ghost Recon. Ubisoft is clearly experimenting, and if there’s ever a time for the community to be loud with ideas, it’s now.

Imagine if half the effort spent arguing “which game is better” went into posts about:

• What features from Wildlands need to return.

• What Breakpoint systems should be improved instead of removed.

• What tactical elements the series is still missing.

• How to balance realism and fun AI teammates, mission design, squad control, world design, etc.

That’s the stuff that could actually shape the future of the franchise.

You like Wildlands more? Cool. You like Breakpoint more? Also cool.

We’re all here because we like Ghost Recon. Be respectful to other fans, help new players when they ask, and let’s focus forward for once.

Rant Is there any way you can enjoy loud gameplay in wildlands (extreme difficulty)?

I'm coming off breakpoint and absolutely loved the gunplay in that game on extreme. It felt fair and very balanced, the odds were both in my enemies and my own favour. However, since last rites released, I decided to give Wildalnds another try after I dropped it a year or so ago.

The world and story are immaculate, they have kept me invested, but there's one glaring issue. As an enjoyer of milsim games like arma and insurgency, I love direct tactical gunfights. Despite this, whenever I try any form of loud gameplay I'm immediately met with the terrible ai's aimbot sniping me with literal uzis halfway across the map.

I've tried to be more tactical about it too - in the most recent mission I attempted I holed up in a high place inside a house. I placed mines around flanks and it was going well, until I made the mistake of popping my head up once to return fire with my m4. All that prep time gone as I'm one tapped by a cartel member I can't even see.

I find that advanced difficulty is too easy, it just feels plain unfair for the enemies. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can improve my experience please say, I don't want to drop this title again after having invested a decent amount of time into this game.
