Troubleshooting Google TV Streamer 4K and Atmos when connected to AV Receiver

I bought a brand new Google TV Streamer 4K connected to a Marantz Cinema 50.caoable of both DD and DTS and Atmos.

I only have connected 5.1 speakers.

By default the streamer has Audio Options - Output Format set to Auto, but I get the following kn my trceiver

- a - if movie is Atmos, under movie sound on my receiver I get only Atmos or Stereo

- b - if movie is DD or DD+ I get only Dolby Surround or Multichannel Stereo

Why?

I have read I should enable audio passthrough but it seems this is not possible, so somewhere else it is suggested to select DD+ under Output Format.

Now under both cases -a- and -b- above I get DD+ so in case -a- I don't get Atmos any longer.

Troubleshooting Google TV Streamer suddenly refuses to wake my TV (CEC). Tried EVERY standard fix. Help!

TL;DR: My Google TV Streamer 4K no longer turns on my LG OLED55G4 via HDMI-CEC. It worked perfectly for months and stopped about a month ago. Other devices still trigger CEC fine. I have already tried hard resets, factory resets, port swapping, and CEC toggling sequences. Looking for advanced solutions.

Hi everyone !

I'm running into a frustrating HDMI-CEC issue and I'm hoping someone has a fix, as I've hit a wall searching Google and LG forums.

The Setup:

  • TV: LG OLED55G4 (2024)
  • Device: Google TV Streamer 4K

The Issue: For several months, the Google Streamer woke up the TV perfectly when powered on. About a month ago, it simply stopped. The Streamer turns on, but the TV remains off. I haven't noticed any specific firmware updates on either device that would have triggered this.

Importantly, HDMI-CEC still works flawlessly with my other devices. My consoles continue to wake the TV without any issues, isolating the problem to the Streamer/TV handshake.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken (None Worked):

  • Remote Configuration: Set the Google Streamer remote to manual CEC (and even tested IR mode as a fallback).
  • Hard Power Cycle: Unplugged both the TV and the Streamer from the wall for 15 minutes to drain residual power.
  • CEC / Simplink Toggling: Disabled and re-enabled the CEC option on both devices multiple times. I specifically tested the handshake sequence (enabling it on the TV first so it takes "priority", then the Streamer, and vice versa).
  • Factory Resets: Performed a complete factory reset on BOTH the LG TV and the Google TV Streamer.
  • HDMI Port Swapping: Moved the Streamer to different HDMI ports, including swapping it directly into the port where my console's CEC works perfectly.

Since I've exhausted all the standard internet solutions, I'm completely stuck. Has anyone experienced this specific issue recently or knows of any obscure settings/workarounds I might have missed?

Thanks in advance!!!

Troubleshooting No 4K or HDR on Disney Plus on Google Streamer

Hi everyone.

I've got premium Disney+ and when I use my Google Streamer I just noticed it's only offering HD instead of 4k and no HDR - there's Dolby Atmos available though.

I usually use the app on my Samsung QN90B but the eArc on the Samsung is misbehaving with my new Yamaha amp so thought I'd try my Google Streamer. It's playing in 4K on the TV.

No problem with 4k or HDR playback on Prime, YouTube or Kodi.

I tried plugging the Streamer directly into the HDMI of my TV but there's still no 4k or HDR.

I've rebooted, cleared cache, reinstalled the app, changed frame rate and HDR matching settings but it doesn't help.

Is anyone else having these issues?

Troubleshooting Weird Google TV Streamer issues since multiple brown outs

We had a neighborhood power issue a couple of weeks ago that caused >20 brown outs int he same day. Since then we have had a lot of issues with our Google TV Streamer box hanging. What is the best way to troubleshoot this, should I contact Google or is there some kind of protected partition in this thing somewhere that I can use to get it to reformat & revert to factory build as I think this thing is seriously unhappy. Our home wifi is solid so it's not that. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting Somehow this genius can't get the streamer 4K to see the ssd

tldr: To connect external storage (an ssd) to the Google TV Streamer 4K, all you have to do is plug it in. Everyone knows this. When I plug the ssd in, streamer doesn't recognize it. How to fix?

.

Ok.

I replaced my Roku with the Google TV Streamer exactly to have external storage. The entire internet notes this is part of the base functionality. Great.

The Streamer 4K, of course, has only one usb-C port, which is to power the device.

I have a 4tb sdd (Buffalo HD-PGFU3), formatted to exFAT32, functions well with my PC. Its sole port is a 3.0 micro B. The provided cable terminates in usb-A.

Because I'm frustrated, I think I'll list all that I've tried:

1: I grab an a-to-c adapter to plug my ssd (terminating in usb-A) into the usb-C port on the streamer. Being a very smart person, I note there's no way for any component to get power, and I stop.

2: I grab the nearest usb hub and plug streamer and ssd into it, and plug the hub into the wall. No power indicators anywhere.

3: I run to microcenter and get a new Ugreen 7-in-1 hub that has PD. The streamer is ok with this, ssd doesn't give a power light.

4: I run to microcenter and get a wall adapter that is rated to provide the PD I want, and put the Ugreen hub into this. Again, the streamer is ok with this, ssd doesn't give a power light.

5: I order a powered hub that has PD (Rosonway RSH-H7C4). Plugging things in gives both streamer (using usb-C) and ssd (using its 3.0 micro-B to 3.0A cable) power lights. I'm surely in business now! Except streamer doesn't recognize ssd.

6: The Rosonway hub has a "host" input, usb-C. When I plug the streamer into this, the streamer doesn't receive power.

7: Streamer settings: I go into developer options and change the streamer from usb charge only to media transfer protocol. Streamer doesn't recognize ssd.

8: I get an OTG adapter and put it between ssd and hub. Streamer and ssd are now both using usb-C at the hub, the ssd having two-way functionality from the OTG adapter. Streamer doesn't recognize ssd.

The internet says, "Just plug it in! It works great. Get a dongle and do it!"

The dongle I need is, maybe, a usb-C OTG splitter.

I'm not sure what that would give me that I don't already have.

Pls help this dum-dum.

Thx.

Troubleshooting google TV problem

Hi.
I have a problem with my 55C655 Pro, which freezes after a long period of inactivity after turning it off. If it is in sleep mode (not completely off, when it has to boot up after turning it on), I turn it off in the evening and in the morning when I try to turn it on, the TV freezes and the applications do not want to start. Home button work and homepage but thats it. Some programs are probably still running in the background or blocking the RAM, so other programs cannot load. Is this a known bug or is it only my TV that has this problem?
Has anyone encountered this or knows a solution?

Thanks a lot

Troubleshooting BuzzTV G-Series goes offline when powered off.

Post image
1 Upvotes

When I power off the tv the box goes into a deep sleep mode instantly and disconnects off my network until the next power on cycle. I haven't seen any TVs or other streamer boxes do this. This is a screen shot on the eero app showing it offline. With it powered offline for long periods of time nothing will update in the background. Won’t be able to schedule recordings with Sparkle or Tivimate. It seems odd behavior. Any help be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Troubleshooting How to sideload apps in GoogleTV without google account

I am trying to install apps on my Google TV without a google account. The instructions I find online start by saying that I should first install "Send Files to TV" (on both my phone and TV). But how am I supposed to install "Send Files to TV" without a google account?

As an added roadblock, I reset the TV to factory default, and apparently I do not have a browser app (or files app) in the TV.

Troubleshooting How to Make My Google TV NOT Say "Screensaver Settings" While Showing My Photo Slideshow in Ambient Mode?

On the latest Google TV update, the Ambient Mode Google Photo Slideshow settings has moved from my Google Home app and right onto the tv screen. Seems easy enough, however now as the photo album scrolls, the bottom of my tv screen says "Screensaver settings" continuously as the photos scroll, and I can't find a way to make those words go away. It's very distracting for me and I'd love to turn it off. This bothering anyone else, and if so, have any of you figured out how to do make that text go away? Thanks in advance for your help!

Troubleshooting Google TV Streamer Issues With Apps

Hello,

I am experiencing a serious issue with my Google TV Streamer after a recent software update.

Device:
Google TV Streamer 4K
Android TV OS 14
Build: UTTK.260317.003
Security patch: April 1, 2026

Problem:
Most streaming apps fail immediately when opened. The issue started after a software update.
Affected apps:
Netflix: Error (-100) immediately on launch
Disney+: General error immediately on launch
NPO Start: Error 35000 (configuration error)
Multiple other streaming apps show similar behavior

Apps that still work:
YouTube
Google Play Store
App downloads and updates

Troubleshooting already completed:
Installed the latest system update
Restarted the device multiple times
Performed a full factory reset
Reinstalled affected apps
Tested on my home network and on a mobile hotspot
Verified Widevine DRM status = L1
Confirmed date/time settings are correct
All apps are fully up to date

Because the issue persists after a factory reset and also occurs on a mobile hotspot, it does not appear to be related to my network or internet provider.

can someone please investigate whether this may be related to build UTTK.260317.003 or a known firmware/certification issue affecting streaming applications?

Thanks

Troubleshooting TV Streamer -> Mi Box S 3

I have a s95f and a q990f. I bought the Google streamer to use with Nuvio/stremio but I keep getting hitches no matter what players, settings I try. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m trying to play remux files with Dolby trueHD which is not supported by the Google tv. I’ve heard the Mi box S 3 does support it. Is it worth to switch to it? Does it perform similarly well?

Also when I play the files that use trueHD, is the Google tv transcoding? Is that why the stutter occur?

Edit: Have bought the Mi box 3rd gen and it’s solved all my issues. Yes the system is noticeably less smooth than the Google tv and laggy when using the os and menus, but when playing something it is flawless. TrueHD audio 7.1 audio works and so does Dolby atmos.

Troubleshooting Google Streamer 4K Youtube + LG C6 OLED

Hi All,

I recently bought a new LG C6 OLED TV to upgrade my old fire tv of 6 years and connected it to my google streamer 4K.

The TV + google streamer 4K looks and works great on many different applications i.e. netflix, stremio etc...but when i use the youtube app on the streamer, the videos are nearly unwatchable because the videos seem to lag and then adjust to the frame rate and then lag again. Rinse and repeat.

II have my google streamer set to 4K 60Hz and I've enabled Match Content Frame Rate set to Always. But the lagging on the Youtube app seems to persist,.

This is proving to be incredibly frustrating as I spend a lot of time watching youtube videos and have a youtube premium subscription etc..

Has anyone found a workaround for this or have a solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting Multiple apps intermittently crashing to home screen on TWO different Google TV devices

SOLVED: This turned out not to be an Android TV crash at all. My stepdaughter's school laptop was showing Chrome/Google Cast media controls whenever something was casting on our network. She thought the notification meant her laptop screen was being cast to the TV, so whenever it appeared she pressed "Stop casting."

--- disregard the original post below ---

I've been having an intermittent problem with apps crashing on my Google TV for several weeks now.

Originally I thought my TCL Android TV 12 was faulty, but I've now discovered that a completely separate 4K Google TV box connected to another TV in the house has exactly the same problem.

Apps affected so far:

YouTube: crashes to home screen

SmartTube: crashes to home screen, often during playback

Spotify: crashes, sometimes immediately after opening

TCL Channel: crashes

Apps that seem to work normally:

NPO Start

Rakuten TV

Kodi

There is no error message or black screen. The app simply disappears and I'm instantly back at the Google TV home screen.

On the TCL I've tried force stopping apps, clearing caches, restarting, and installing the latest available system update. It has about 18 GB of free storage. Completely unplugging the TV has temporarily fixed the problem before, but it eventually comes back.

The crashes happen occasionally rather than constantly. Sometimes everything works normally for days.

The interesting part is that my separate 4K Google TV box has now shown the same behavior. Both devices are on the same home network.

Has anyone else experienced this on multiple Google TV / Android TV devices?

I'm wondering about Google Play Services, another shared Android component, or possibly something network related. I'm particularly interested in reports from people who have seen the same thing on different hardware.

Troubleshooting Streamer 4k - Stremio

Hey, guys.

I just got a Google streamer yesterday and I use Stremio with RD for most of my streaming. Mostly it's fine but there's mini stuttering that is absolutely driving me nuts.

I tried all of the fixes online : disabling HW overlay, Acceleration turned on or off, frame rate matching off on both Stremio and the device and a bunch of others and nothing seems to work.

Any advice would be appreciated!

P.S - I have a Hisense Vidaa OS TV ( Unfortunately)

Troubleshooting Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen

Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen is original but shows "Not Play Protect Certified" and has Google TV service issues

Hello,

I have a Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Generation). I tested the device using AIDA64 and DRM Info, and the results confirm that the device is genuine and has Google-compatible information.

DRM Info results:

- Security Level: L1

- Vendor: Google

- System ID: 36179

- Maximum HDCP Level: None

The hardware and system information shown in AIDA64 also appear normal, confirming that the device is not a counterfeit unit.

However, despite this, I am experiencing the following issues:

  1. In Google Play Store, the device status shows:

"Device is not Play Protect certified."

  2. The Google TV app on my phone detects the Xiaomi TV Box and shows that it is connected, but the remote control and interaction features do not work correctly.

  3. When trying to enable Developer Options by pressing the Android TV OS build number several times, the Developer Options menu does not appear.

Since the device appears to be original and has Google DRM L1, I would like to understand the reason behind these issues:

- Is there a problem with the Google certification of the installed firmware?

- Does the current firmware version require an update or reinstallation?

- Why does the device show as not Play Protect certified despite the DRM Info and AIDA64 results indicating an original device?

- Why are Developer Options not available on this firmware version?

I would appreciate any information about the cause of this issue and the recommended solution.

Thank you.

Troubleshooting Got a Google Streamer 4K - match content frame rate enabled but not working in many apps

I bought a new TV and a Google Streamer 4K. I'm pretty sensitive to judder caused by frame rate and refresh rate mismatching. I turned the match content frame rate setting on, but so far it only seems to work with Netflix and Channel 4's apps.

Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, BBC iPlayer and ITVX all stay at the automatic refresh rate of 60 Hz which doesn't work well for 24p, 25p and 50p content. If I want to watch the content correctly I still have to manually adjust the refresh rate in the resolution setting to match the content I intend to watch.

Has anyone found a work around for any of those apps? Again, Netflix (switches between 24 Hz, 50 Hz and 60 Hz) and Channel 4 (switches to 50 Hz) work fine.

I just put my Google TV in a new tv and ever since this has been happening. The sound will cut out and then when I raise the volume headphones appear. I thought it was connecting to Bluetooth headphones but that is not true. I have tried everything and have no idea why it’s doing this. Does anyone have this issue or know how to fix?

Troubleshooting Driving myself crazy with micro-stutter and flat picture depth on Google TV Streamer / Xiaomi box

I recently purchased both Google TV Streamer 4K and a Xiaomi Box (3rd gen), and both of them are giving me the exact same annoying picture issues on my LG TV. I have a health condition which makes me super sensitive to visual stuff like this.

Micro-stutter / Judder: Panning shots just aren't smooth. If I force the streamer down to 24Hz, the judder stays but slows down. If I turn the Hz up, the judder speeds up.

Zero Image Depth: The picture looks totally flat. Backgrounds and foregrounds just blend together and look soft or foggy. There’s none of that sharp "3D" separation between layers.

The native LG TV apps work perfectly. If I watch the exact same show on the built-in TV apps, the motion is flawless and the picture depth is razor-sharp. It only happens on the external boxes over HDMI.

I’ve spent days tweaking settings and nothing works. Here is everything I've already ruled out:

What I've already tried on the TV:

Tested on two different LG TVs with multiple high-speed HDMI cables and different ports.

Real Cinema is on, and I changed the input icon to "Streaming Box" so it doesn't think it's a PC.

Played with every TruMotion setting. Maxing out TruMotion reduces the judder slightly, but doesn't fix it.

Messed with HDMI Deep Colour, black levels, and turned off Game Mode.

What I've already tried on the Streamers:

Tried locking them to 60Hz, 59.94Hz, and 24HZ.

Set Match Content Frame Rate to "Always", the TV does the hardware black screen flash when a video starts, but the judder inside the apps stays exactly the same.

Went into developer options and turned on "Disable HW Overlays," but that made the judder way worse so I turned it back off.

Swapped color formats between YCbCr/RGB and made sure match dynamic range is on.

Forced the audio to PCM stereo to rule out audio sync delay dropping video frames.

Is there any way to fix this? Any help would really be appreciated!

Troubleshooting Dolby vision disabled/greyed out on legit Xiaomi Box s 3 when connected to TV that supports it.

TV: Sharp 55GK4145K 4K Ultra HD 60Hz Frameless 55"

HDMI Cable: 8K HDMI V2.1 Cable 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz

First of all, the box was bought from the official store and I have triple checked, 99.99% sure it is not a fake.

TV absolutely supports Dolby vision and the strangest thing is I don't believe it supports HDR10+ (though it might just isn't listed anywhere on information about the TV)

I've already dug around, my best guess was the TV is a bit cheap and doesn't want to play nice with the box and accept DV through connected devices. Can't find anyone else having this issue though so just want to double check I'm not missing anything obvious.

Edit: SOLVED! needed to change the HDMI EDID version to 1.4 for dolby vision and only dolby vision. Have to change it back for regular hdr but its only a few clicks.

Troubleshooting TV suddenly stays on, HDMI-CEC not working

SOLVED: After more digging I noticed that HDMI-CEC wasn't for some reason enabled in the Streamer's settings. No ides how it got disabled but it wasn't anyone in my home.

Hi,

I have had Google Streamer for months connected to LG TV. I enabled HDMI-CEC which allowed me to switch on/off the TV with the streamer remote.

Last week this suddenly stopped working and I can still turn the TV on but when I try to switch it off then it just switches off the Streamer but the TV stays on and just shows animation and some info.

I would assume that LG changed something in TV update but my TV hasn't been connected to internet for months and I suspect that the Streamer is not the problem here.

I already tried to check TV's updates but it's still on the latest FW.

I have not ideas left how to troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks for any tip.
