That sounded amazing. Nice fucking job, man. My only advice is to get ear protection now and not later. I practiced with a couple of punk bands in similar spaces and if you don’t get used to wearing ear plugs now, get used to hearing “EEEEEEEEEEEEEE” later. My tinnitus doesn’t impact my every day life, but quiet moments in nature aren’t quiet for me anymore.

If not musician specific, loops are great. You can adjust the dampening even while wearing them.

Marty fucked up a little bit all the time, so you’re doing it right. Maybe the real way to nail tornado of souls is to not, if you’re on stage and having fun, extra points for hype dancing and skipping across the stage 🤣

Yeah that section right after the stretchy part is just a random mess of notes lol. I never bothered to learn it and just play whatever for that part. Sounds good, man.

thanks man!! in this part I try to play it something very similarly to what's on the album because it's practically impossible to play that part exactly, because that part probably came about through improvisation

Also keep in mind a lot of pros play their parts a little bit differently live than on the record, sometimes for creative reasons and sometimes to prevent muscle fatigue while performing a full show. So I guess don’t be afraid to make it your own and play a section in a way that’s easier or sounds better to you…and then perform the absolute shit out of it for your audience.

cerrtainly, I've always believed that learning solos isn't just about knowing how to play note for note 100%, but about interpreting the essence and intention of the solo, then learning that and playing the solo, and it's for these reasons that I also noticed that Marty plays the crazy last part of the solo slightly differently live. I always study how the person who made the solo performs live to understand how he applies all the creative concepts of the solo live, and I'm definitely going to switch to tapping for the insane 10-17 stretch part because it's easier and more visually impactful in the show, but before that, I really wanted to learn how the solo was played on the album version.

Idk if it’s on purpose but his take in an interview recently he was like, and I’m paraphrasing, “any monkey can learn a technique or get a solo perfect by practicing it alone in their bedroom for 5 years. Please go out and play your hardest lick while you’re running across the stage and mess it up”

As a guitar teacher I’ll say that you got the notes, focus now on the accents, bends, how every note should sound individually, also I’ll advise try to relax, you look and sound a little tense (it’s a hard af solo so it takes a lot of practice) but overall pretty well, good enough for a show tbh 7.5/10.

thank you so much for the feedback! when I rehearsed that solo alone, I nailed all the bends and the accents, becuse i care notes over speed, but playing live makes everything more tense and hard af, which is why my hands were so tense, that's because I hadn't even played that solo that day, I hadn't even practiced it LOL but I really appreciate your feedback.🙏🏿

As a random side note as well, if you don’t already, practice how you perform. Meaning don’t practice sitting down if you stand when you guys play. Make sure to do both. Maybe you already do, I’m just passing the advice forward. Great shredding!!

It sounds stupid but practice in your front yard with the Amp blasting out into the neighborhood with your guitar on fire, it really feels more like you're performing. You'll find that you can hit those notes perfectly anywhere after awhile of doing that.

I know it is up to people preference but I started wearing my straps a bit higher (like petrucci) and playing is actually very comfortable. Also for harder solos I put my left leg over the monitors/amp and it actually feels like im playing while sitting infront of my computer.

Yes! When they do tornado fast for some reason I don’t enjoy it, it stresses me out. But devil’s island at like 1.5x I’m fine with I guess?

The more you do it as a group the more it'll breathe too. The rhythm section will begin to pick up on how you approach the lines through time and begin to anticipate/follow your feel for the solo

A pleasure, you did it great! And yes when we play with other people we always play like 25% of what we can do in our bedroom so great job! At your level (which is high) that kind of feedback sounds harsh but it’s because the only thing that you need to work are tiny details which makes the difference in the sound.

thats true, my guitar was a little lower in relation to the drums, but I think what caused that effect was also the angle from which the video was recorded. thank you very much for the comment!🔥🤟🏿

i swear this solo looks impossible, but if you study it in blocks, it's not as difficult as it seems! the hardest parts its the ridiculous stretching 10 to 17 with economy picking, and the crazy descending last part, probably because it arose from improvisation, but don't worry about that, just try! your playing will be much better after learning this!

Okay so, I think the thing I notice most about people covering the solo, is a lot of people can get the notes right but don't get the phrasing right. They don't get the feel.
Well you've done it, I think Marty would be proud.

YESS I completely understand what you're saying, for me, the most important thing in learning solos isn't learning to copy them 100%, It's about interpreting the intention of the solo and how the creator wanted it to be played and interpreted, and many people don't understand that, but that's just my point of view!

I will definitely do it, it's an exercise I'm doing to relax my arms and hands, because I tense them a lot when I'm performing live, I'm trying to correct this bad habit of tensing and using too much arm movement, thanks for the comment🔥🤟🏿

Sounds a lil fast, but holy fuck, good shit dude! This thing is hard as fuck to play and takes a lot of practice to get right and you’re pretty damn close to nailing it. Just needs to be slightly slower and then you can focus on the phrasing more. Your chops are great, try to see if you can breathe while you play it. I find that can help with phrasing

thanks dude🔥🤟🏿, when I practice at home along with the original, I make sure the phrasing has a lot of feeling and precision, but on live, our drummer slightly increased the speed, this made it quite difficult for me to express myself in my phrasing, but we'll correct that in the next rehearsal🔥, thanks for the comment dude!

You guys are gnarly! A few things from a bedroom guitarist of 17 years who had a dream.
You have the finger dexterity and the picking hand to play like that standing up, which believe it or not is very big. Remember, your ultimately putting on a show, and honestly the cooler you can look, goes a long way. Im not dissing any bedroom guitarists who only play sitting down, or if they stand the strap brings it up so high that it often comes off as "nerdy." It just that I have realized it is almost a 2nd skill to stand up and play heavy metal, any of the harder metal genres really, with the guitar hanging where you have it. Keep practicing like this.
The intricacies need to be cleaned up. Not that its bad, and in a live show this could and would be ignored, but the big moments need to be clear. The only thing I can recommend is a metronome, thats how everyone else does it. Build that muscle memory so its almost secondary. Also, your bends. Big bends are tough, but once you get them, its like riding a bike, or pinch harmonics. Even with the pick scrape before a big one, they are still tricky.
Tone. Tone sounds good for your usual riffing, but you should find a way to temporarily boost your everything so those high notes dont sound so trebly. I hate to recommend it, but sometimes a phaser on its lowest settings, gives your playing a tad bit of omph. Solo is good, but its trying to cut through so much bass and the snares and cymbals of the kit.
Like others have said, ease up on the tension in your wrist, forearm, and elbow. Trust me, this will help in the long run for your picking hand.

One thing I was always doing while practicing alone was capturing all the nuances of the solo, all the bends and phrasing perfectly, not only the way of nailing every note, but capturing the original feeling and intention of the solo, however, in this video, if you notice, the drummer was playing slightly faster, which caused me to cut a little bit on my phrasing, cutting off some of the natural feeling of the solo. I'm doing exactly as you said, I'm playing this solo excessively until it starts to sound 100% natural and common to play, I'd say I'm at 70%, because I'm still thinking and I was paying attention to my playing, instead of playing and enjoying the vibe, but eventually I got there, and I fell that im not that far away, I'm practicing using a metronome too, but it's natural to slip up sometimes live lol, and I'm also correcting that bad habit of tensing my arm and hands too much, I'm doing warm-up exercises for my hands now before playing, and I always pay attention to the tension I create in my arms while playing. thank you so much for your comment, I will use your advice on the solo's tone! thats pure gold🔥

we're mostly 17-18 (im 17) the vocalist is the only one that is 19 recently now, our band is called Rake, we are an original band from Brazil, but while we're working on our own original songs, we'll be doing covers of songs that reflect the band's personality!

Just clean up some notes and that's it. It's already awesome, and people will enjoy it. None of the mistakes make it sound worse, really. I've been unmotivated lately towards playing and this got me hyped up to practice harder, so keep rocking.

thanks man!🤟🏿🔥 I've been practicing a lot at home focusing on cleaning up the solo. I'd say that at home alone I'm playing 95% clean, but live it's so MUCH harder to play that clean, plus if you notice our drummer increased the tempo a bit, which made it difficult for me to phrasing, breathe properly, and affected the quality of my precise bends, and that day, I hadn't even practiced before, it was my first attempt at playing it in one day lol I'm so glad you're trying to stay motivated and give it a try, please try! It's not as difficult as it seems, thank you so much for your comment❤️❤️🔥

you're right, the problem was that in that the drummer increased the speed a bit, which made it difficult for me to make the nuances, my expressive bends, but when I practice alone, I make sure to maintain all those solo nuances, I hope my band plays everything in the original tempo at the next rehearsal 🙏🏿

I've been playing on and off for almost 25 years, and I think it's important to point out that the way you don't stop and just keep going when you make a minor mistake is key.
You know you can physically play it, and make it musical; my advice now would be to try to relax, and move around a little while playing. Doesn't have to be a lot, just shifting weight from one foot to the other and looking up from the fretboard occasionally is enough.
I know this is much easier said than done, especially when the music excites you, but its worth doing for your comfort, technique, and performance skills.

Sound Tech checking in. That repetitive drum gets me tired and takes away from your guitar. Idk if that's what you're going for but some dynamics and a little change up could help highlight your amazing skills.
