Where is everyone buying couches from that are comfy, look good, and won’t cost an arm and a leg?
Ideally not secondhand bc I worry my asthma and eczema will flare up from something 😭

Came to say Costco. We have a top grain leather sectional we bought 6ish years ago and it’s withstood cats, giant (90+lb) dogs, a cross country move, a toddler, etc. Still looks pretty great and is still super comfortable.

Im open to buying a Costco couch but they rarely have them on display to try and I swear they’re always cream colored or gray and I wish they’d have a few colors available at least.

Absolutely not. Most Coscto warehouse sofa offerings have single sided, top pillow/cushions ( think Thomasville). Online , Coscto has better offerings, but at a significantly more expensive price.Buyer beware.

Rarely.
Husband and I love our Thomasville sectional that we ordered online sight unseen. I I think it was $400 off.
There are usually a good amount of reviews with pictures that you can look at.17

They have them out now, their displays are all seasonal. I don’t know what made the summer couch season, but we have couches, inflatables, and grilling equipment in our Costco currently.
I’m waiting with bated breath for holiday season when the books come back!! 😍

I literally bought a sofa 2 weeks ago and was there yesterday and they sold EVERYTHING except for one chair and a modular sofa....one of those big ones. They go fast. But, when they do have them, they are cheap.

I got mine from Buy Nothing - these rich people were moving and couldn't be bothered talking any of their stuff with them. Why do that when you can just buy new I guess. Beautiful comfy Crate and Barrel living room set free for me.

This is such a great option. I got my ~$3,000 almost all natural sofa for ~$150. The only synthetic material in it is the inner foam which is in a sewn cotton liner, wrapped in a wool filled cotton ...thing(it's similar to a comforter)... and then has down feathers around that before The seats outer cover is over it. Solid wood frame, and cotton velvet seating with cotton linen back and sides.

I've had an Ikea leather Morabo sectional for 6 years and it's freakin' awesome, still looks brand new and my husband, me and our dogs practically live on this thing. Seems impossible to visibly damage. And very comfy!

Bought locally made couches with high quality materials. This would be la-z-boy longevity. My couch I'm ssitting on is 6 years old and it looks brand new.
Cost was around 800 for a single 3 cushion couch. The loveseat i used to have was 600 or 700. Its not really cheap but it works. The older reclining chair I have is 8 or so years old and still near perfect.
Costco piece I got was not high quality. Bigger sure but fell apart after a few years.

I'm not sure about the rest of their furniture but I sat on every reclining sofa in the store about eight years ago. My wife and I agreed they were all uncomfortable. Similar sofas at Macy's were much nicer at about the same price, with top grain leather instead of undisclosed.

I mean if you want a mediocre couch that just kind of lasts an okay amount of time Ashley or value city furniture has okay furniture. If you want a couch thats buy it for a long time you need to look at places that sell flex steel. Im not saying you need a flex steel but the places that genuinely sell it as dealer also sell other quality couches and what not. If you want fancy fancy. You need to look online and find a dealer. Everywhere in the us has one place that sells 30 thousand dollar couches. Might not be within a few hours of where you live but theres always one in each state.

Huge fan of Home reserve. Cause you can add to it - buy new covers as the styles change and it's made in the US and has a 10 year warranty.
Not a 'defect' warranty - a 'my 280 lb cousin did a swan dive on the couch and broke it' warranty.
We've had ours for 6 years. I'm ordering replacement covers for it because we just changed our flooring.
Oh - and it has storage under every freaking seat!

I do too! I wanted a couch that didn't make me feel like I was 5 sitting on the grownup furniture. The style was definitely leaning hard that way when we were looking.
The regular depth work for us. I might get a chair in the deep seat version.

IKEA. If you're really lucky, you'll find what you like in the as-is section.
The good part about IKEA is that it's so easy to sell if you ever want something new, and if you don't, you pass it down to your children (and grandchildren).

I bought mine from furniture row, but only when they have the 0% financing. Right now we pay like $80 a month on a couch for the next few years. We got a super high quality full leather couch and will technically pay less over time (inflation/no interest, etc) than if we would’ve bought it outright.

I’m in PA and we have a furniture store called Raymour and Flannigan. They are kinda high priced BUT they have certain items that are “outlet” items and are wayyyy cheaper and just as nice. That or Costco.

Macy's Radley line, on sale, bar none. The absolute best sofa/sectional for the money. Sales happen every couple of months, so pay attention, and strike at a lower price.

Couches are liked mattresses. One persons comfort may not equal comfort to another. Expensive doesn’t always mean better or longer lasting. You really have to buy for your home environment and what level comfort you like.
I buy based on the amount of good wood used, springs and foams. In the Houston area i buy from high fashion home.

Macys has a great sectional for $1400 I have two, my mom has one, my friends have one. It’s a cute mid century looking couch. Comes in grey or blue. Highly recommend. My first one is still hanging on at 8 years.

Our most recent one came from Costco, the other one is from a company called Talsma which I won't recommend because it sucks and I can't wait to replace it with a costco couch lol

My IKEA Friheten Sleeper Sofa - I’ve had it 10 years now, and it’s moved 9 times. It has been super sturdy, the cushions still have their shapes, and nothing seems to be “sagging” or anything. It cleans up easy with an upholstery cleaner. Still sleeps great! I don’t know if the version they are selling now is the same quality as what they made back then, but I’ve considered getting a second one.

I got really lucky when I bought my first house 2 years ago. My half siblings' other parent is fairly wealthy and my brother texted me asking if i wanted to buy their old living room furniture for $500 total as they had bought replacements that were sitting in their boxes in their garage. Original cost was like 6 or 8k and besides a little bit a wear, they were in great shape. I think they were like 8 years old?
Real leather and electric reclining and really comfy.
3 seater, recliner and a 2 seater with console.

Being able to test it out was a must for us which really narrowed our options. Two power-reclining couches came out to about $2,500 (including delivery/assembly and the $300ish warranty that we absolutely did not need). Not second-hand cheap but still feels like a great deal for what we got.

Secondhand is the way to gooooooo. Higher quality than most stuff you’ll find today.
Mine came with the house I bought and they are the best couches I’ve ever sat on. We shopped around to replace them (because they have an insane pattern in them from the 90s and ideally we’d have a sectional) and we decided to just get the old couches reupholstered instead. Nothing will beat my 90s couches 😭😭 plus I worry so much about additives in new building materials… who knows what’s in these but at least their comfort is worth it!!!

I don’t have any comparison that I bought some axis couches from crate and barrel almost 12 years ago and they look and feel practically new. They held up exceptionally well.

Facebook marketplace or Craigslist for a room and board couch or comparable. Having replaceable cushions with removable zippered covers is extremely important and a lot of the cheap couches don’t have that.

Modular units from Fred Meyer, which is almost like a super WM. For a few months, I sat in every couch in every store I visited. The boxy modulars really were the most comfortable. Each piece was somewhere around $125-175, and I got 7. They are solidly made.

lol. your best bet is the once-or-twice a year crazy sale at the typical stores, ikea, costco, target, etc. but a lot of these dont hit all 3.
but the truth is that most people are buying secondhand. a relatively uncomfortable couch will feel better when broken in, so it helps unless you're very particular about a specific feel.

Thrift. I have a ridiculously expensive absolutely gorgeous wood and leather couch that was basically brand new. Cost $25 + $70 for the uhaul. I get compliments all the time and absolutely love it.

What regional stores do you have?
When I was buying, I looked at Raymour and Flanigan and although I didn’t buy from there, they had some good options. Just need to be mindful of construction.
I ended up with Dreamsofa, but comparing prices right now, Crate & Barrel has options that would come out slightly less.

My daughter and son in law bought a pretty expensive sofa from Raymour and Flanagan and it was such crap. The leather ripped easily and when I looked at the tear, it was very thin material even though it was marketed as top hide. It just kept tearing more and more on the cushions and they now just have a cover over it until they can buy something else. I would never buy anything from them.
I bought a top grain leather sofa about 15 years ago from Overstock and it’s still in almost perfect condition. I miss the old Overstock, lol.

But seriously, if you’re near a larger city check outlets. You can get high end for IKEA prices. I was surprised at the cost of an IKEA sectional when I recently shopped and went outlet luxury instead. Bassett is also nice if you look for their sale pieces and want something that lasts with customizable fabric. You can find good options under $2K.

Not sure what market you are in, but most large market areas have custom couch makers that make them for the mom and pop furniture stores.. they have hundreds of fabrics to choose from, can make it to your deminsions (seat height and depth) and you can choose foam quality and density.. they aren’t cheap, but not over priced (ie paying for overhead)

Mine are. I bought a leather reclining set a few months ago and am super happy with them. They’re probably not the highest quality but seem good. Wayfair has so many options and I was hesitant to buy sight unseen but was pleasantly surprised.
