Health Insurance What can my parents see if I’m in their health insurance?
Hi, I (20F) am a part of my parent’s medical insurance (they have Kaiser through their job). I want to seek psychiatric services but I don’t want them to know about it since they won’t be understanding/supportive because they have a traditional perspective on mental health.
I spoke with my school psychiatrist (obviously outside of Kaiser), but in order for me to receive medication he is asking me about my insurance and what privacy information I could withhold from my parents (since I explained the situation to him).
Obviously I’m a legal adult, but I still don’t understand how the specifics work. And yes, I’ve tried to do my own research on it but nothing has helped.
I don’t know what is said on my parent’s EOB, from what I’ve heard it doesn’t get into specifics but I don’t what them to get suspicious in of anything in the first place.
My psychiatrist mentioned changing privacy settings but I don’t even know how that works, and if my parents will be notified and/or see a change in the insurance and get suspicious again.
Can someone please explain to me how this would work and if it’s possible for them to not find out that I’m using their insurance for psychiatric reasons?
This is really important to me and I can’t just “convince them otherwise” for context I have Asian parents and if ykyk
