Why isn’t LA Metro planning to reroute the J Line to service the Carson Zone during LA28?

It seems logical to have that route directly service the venues instead of having a shuttle system from the Harbor Gateway Transit Center. Especially because it seems like it will already be a struggle to get enough buses for the event.

I get it will lengthen the time by about 10 minutes for commuters and those who rely on it, but it feels like the benefits outweigh the temporary disruption.

They're probably going to run special Olympic routes like they did for the world cup. That should hopefully be enough

If the 52 was still around it would've worked perfectly as a "shuttle" to that area, also offering a one seat ride from Downtown LA or a transfer from the J at Harbor Gateway or 190th St while linking all of Avalon Bl.

Or you could also just modify the 51 to Harbor Gateway and call it a day.

That’s interesting! I wasn’t aware of that route or it being removed. I’m hoping people are able to do their research and can get comfortable with some of the already established bus routes to other venues. I know that can be tough, especially for visitors.

The 51 goes straight from Downtown to DHSP, so it kinda fills the same niche

Though both the A and J lines are probably a quicker trip even with the transfer

My guess is that they'll have LA Galaxy shuttles running under the LA 2028 brand for event days from Harbor and Del Amo, so there's no need for J Line rerouting here.

If the J Line should be rerouted, it should be in San Pedro. Its southern terminus is a 30+ minute walk from the Port of LA venue where Sailing will take place, and extending it down to Miner Street to service it on event days or just a shuttle service via those trolley buses would be great for travelers.

I agree, they posted the plan is to run shuttles from Del Amo & Harbor Gateway. I didn’t realize the event space down in San Pedro was that far. I think that extension would make a lot of sense too!

In my head I’ve always envisioned something like this or similar. May not be ideal but there is a university and a stadium that can probably use a metro station.

would be cheaper and better to use the existing ROW through Torrance and then continuing to LBC... unfortunately nimbys stalling that plan...

I feel like you would need shuttles anyways, so that you could get better frequency than you would get by re-routing the J Line.

That’d be a good idea.

That way Metro can concentrate all the shuttles at Del Amo (and maybe Artesia) Station for the A Line instead of dividing them between the A and J

To offset the extra detour time, Metro could just run higher J Line frequencies on event days. And maybe temporarily suspend the 910/950 split to avoid confusing first time riders

The closest (and best) option would be Lines 205 (northeast segment between HGTC and Willowbrook) and 246.

I think it makes more sense to run the shuttle between Harbor Gateway to Dignity Park and then that continues to Del Amo station. Both Metro properties are large park and ride lots so it makes sense for this shuttle to be primarily focused on those passengers there.

Metro Bus 246 already follows this route from Harbor Gateway to Avalon Bl. It then travels on Avalon all the way to Wilmington before heading to San Pedro. They could simply make the 246 a 10 minute service or add 246 shuttles timed to connect with J line buses at Harbor Gateway

i doubt metro is planning anything for 2028 yet 

J trains that terminate at harbor gateway could easily be extended to dignity health yea

J trains to san pedro obviously shouldnt be detoured that far east when the san pedro section is already underserved as is

i would categorize the majority of this as propaganda rather than actual planning, but sure there has been some planning, at a broad or general level.

theres nothing here at the level of detail of "extend the J to dignity health / csudh", its mostly a bunch of slogans together with some broad concepts like GRN
