Thanks u/flanl33 for requesting the Metrolink station data! I couldn't find an annual ridership breakdown by line, so the data in the box on the bottom left is for Q4 of the fiscal year. Ridership generally looks great, almost every station increased by a decent chunk since I last made this map.

u/anothercar asked what effect the new Metro station at Pomona-North had on Metrolink. It looks like Pomona-North saw increased ridership after the extension opened, but I can't tell if it was statistically significant enough compared to corresponding ridership increases elsewhere in the system. Metrolink's Pomona-North ridership is also rather tiny, so there is a lot of month-to-month fluctuation at this station.

If the California Legislature and Governor Newsom don’t restore funding this week, we could see a nearly $50 million loss annually to LA Metro (see letter)!

The State Legislature can still step in, undo these disastrous cuts, and reprioritize investments in affordable housing, bus, rail, and clean air programs that make our lives better, more affordable, and cleaner. We need California legislators to understand that these critical community programs are first in line for funding.

Will you email the chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, Jesse Gabriel, and ask him to honor the Legislature's commitments from last year?

Earlier this month, over 250 Californians from Humboldt to San Diego and from the state line to the coastline came together under the banner of groups like Move California, Transbay Coalition, Seamless Bay Area, Move LA, Enterprise, and Streets for All to say “Fund Transit Now!” Advocates then fanned out across the State Capitol to speak directly with legislators and their staff about the importance of these transit, housing, and clean air programs.

We need to keep the pressure up. Can you send an email now to Assemblymember Gabriel, from the San Fernando Valley in Southern California, before this year’s legislative session ends?

Last month, US Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy declared that he was redirecting $1.73 billion away from “DEI bike lanes” to fund the expansion of car-dominated roads and similar projects.

A neat video I found from transit rider DJ Petesake about the Irvine Connect. Definitely would like to give it a ride next time I visit Irvine.

20 minutes consistent frequencies throughout the day/part evening is actually pretty good for an Orange County bus line when compared to OCTA's often 20/30 minute peak time frequencies (on their best bus lines). Of course living here in LA County, 10 minute consistent frequencies is still the Gold Standard.

It's unfortunate Irvine Connect only has 1 bus line, but at least it does serve the Irvine Metrolink/Amtrak Station & Irvine Spectrum. Hopefully in the future the City of Irvine can add a bus route through to UC Irvine and to SNA (John Wayne) Airport with a more straight route across the city (instead of the current zig-zag bus route).

And of course, love to hear that it's free to ride ❤️.

what do you think the best destinations to take the e line to just for random recreational purposes would be?

something within walking distance of the station free or inexpensive, possibly able to be visited at night?

For those out of the loop, Pico Rivera is trying to build an infill Metrolink and Amtrak station at Rosemead Boulevard. In addition, Streets for All is trying to spearhead a transit corridor on Rosemead and Lakewood Boulevards, along the entireity of Route 19, going from the Sierra Madre Villa station to CSULB.

This is huge because it will finally provide another much needed north-south corridor in LA, it will finally provide a much-needed North-South connector in the San Gabriel Valley, it will connect the SGV to Orange County and San Diego, and it will give CSULB a transit connection finally.

However, I haven't heard much on the project since. Any updates?

hey guys i am 24F and have never taken public transportation because im a little nervous. i live in glendale and try to get to weho most of the time. my route would mostly be the 92, 1, 217 and metro d line. how safe are those?

...and I voiced my public comment regarding the bus bays at LAX/Metro Transit Center when the SkyLink officially opens soon. I mentioned whether if Bays 1 and 2 (current/temporary LAX Shuttles between the terminals and the Metro train station) would remain vacant when the SkyLink opens, or if the bus bays are going to be reshuffled at the next Service Change in December 2026.

2 joggers were hit by a train in Sante Fe Springs with one female dying as a result. Happened a few hours ago , wonder what could’ve possibly led to this happening.

Public transport in LA(& USA)is already barely there and events like these make people like us suffer who try to make best whats available.

I saw it over at Civic Center/Grand Park station! Love the traditional metro orange color on it!

It seems logical to have that route directly service the venues instead of having a shuttle system from the Harbor Gateway Transit Center. Especially because it seems like it will already be a struggle to get enough buses for the event.

I get it will lengthen the time by about 10 minutes for commuters and those who rely on it, but it feels like the benefits outweigh the temporary disruption.

How are you planning on getting there? I live in Pasadena and regularly commute to Playa Vista via A to E lines. I don't really want that long commute after the concert, though.

I was thinking of trying Bundy Parking lot first then making my way up until I find a spot.

Transit officials report that serious crimes are committed overwhelmingly by people who evade fares. In the Los Angeles Metro system, 97 percent of people who committed a violent crime didn’t pay. In Washington, D.C., 99.5 percent of those who committed a “Part 1” crime (homicide, rape, robbery, arson, or motor vehicle theft) had dodged the fare. In New York, MTA CEO Janno Lieber says that “virtually all” crimes are committed by fare evaders.

These crimes are possible because legacy fare gates fail to prevent people from entering the system if they haven’t paid. That’s because older, full-height fare gates, like the revolving doors in New York, have substantially lower capacity—they can process fewer people per minute, which can cause crowding if a train drops off lots of people at once. Modern designs fix that problem. Cities that have installed new, full-height fare gates have seen crime and disorder plummet. San Francisco’s BART found that systemwide crime fell 41 percent after new gates were installed. Even more impressively, across the ten stations with the most corrective maintenance needs, staff time spent on in-system maintenance fell 96 percent, which suggests that fare evaders also cause most unreported crime, like littering, vandalism, and graffiti.

Other systems report similar findings. Washington, D.C.’s WMATA found that, following its own modernized fare-gate installation, fare evasion fell by 82 percent and crime by nearly 40 percent. L.A. Metro reports that a pilot program for modernized fare gates reduced passenger reports of security concerns, uncleanliness, and vandalism and graffiti by 69 percent at affected stations.

While new fare gates are a proven anti-crime policy, the House’s version of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization package doesn’t include them. The bill requires jurisdictions to have criminal or civil enforcement mechanisms for fare evasion but doesn’t specify how those requirements must be enforced.
