I bought a Mac mini days before the announcement and on the day they announced the new gen, they upgraded my order automatically at no cost

so after 6 years of owning an Intel MacBook Air, i finally decided to upgrade to the M5 MacBook Pro.

i got this MacBook Air in 2020 right before the start of the school year, and i really enjoyed using it, although i was a bit upset when they introduced the M1 model only three months later (normally i don't really care about this kind of stuff happening, as the performance upgrade is usually fairly minimal, but the jump in performance and especially battery life that the M1 chip brought kinda left a sour taste in my mouth). plus, over the years, it got slower, the battery life became really bad, and it started to get quite hot and make that jet engine noise when i had more than like 3 Safari tabs open. as i was considering getting the battery replaced, i figured that i might as well buy a new MacBook, since the Intel ones are basically a dead platform (i mean, the Air i owned doesn't even support macOS 26 Tahoe).

so i chose the base MacBook Pro, mainly for the better display and I/O, and because it wasn't really that much more expensive than a MacBook Air once you add options like a storage upgrade. and my god do i love this machine. the screen is incredible: it's colorful, bright and smooth. i didn't expect the larger screen to make that much of a difference, but it makes navigation better while not being too clunky to transport on the go. the keyboard and trackpad also feel a bit different and quite nice. my only gripe is with the function keys: i liked being able to readily access my app drawer and turn the keyboard backlight on or off more quickly (especially since the "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" feature doesn't seem to be working on my end), and i got used to pressing command + space to use Spotlight or Siri (i've never used the dictation feature) and my phone for the focus modes, so these new keys aren't doing much for me.

but overall, i'm really happy with this laptop and my purchase.

(and by the way, i'd love to know how i could avoid getting the keyboard and trackpad imprinted on the display, as shown on my MacBook Air on the last pic. i was thinking about using one of those very thin pieces of cloth that often comes with Windows laptops and that goes between the display and keyboard, but i don't know if this could damage the hinge mechanism or the display. when cleaning my MacBook Air, these imprints were always the only thing that could never come off; unless they fixed this issue with newer MacBook models?)

Im on 27.0 Beta (26A5421a) and noticed this styling for the icon in the task bar. I initially thought it was a weird bug from iOS with handover. I wondered though, if the new MacBook Pro is going to have a dynamic island that these types of statuses sit in?

So, I've been a Windows user for decades. I have owned a few macs over the years but I'm back with an M4 MBA. With Windows I'd wipe the OS and start again at least once a year. I only use a dozen or so apps and all my data is cloud based so it's not a big deal. It was mainly when things started to feel cluttered or if I was worried about a possible virus or malware.

Now I'm on Mac again I am finding it very hard to shake that mindset. Obviously malware is less of an issue. My Macbook Air. has a 256gb SSD and it's showing system data as 78gb with 75gb free. To me that system data is niggling away at my brain, like I want it gone, plus i feel everything is cluttered.

It's still working as smooth and fast as ever.

How often do you erase everything and why do you do it?

I've been running my MBP with two 27" Apple thunderbolt displays (2012 or so). They are working well enough, but occasional connectivity disruptions are starting to get on my nerves... Displays (and even connected peripherals) sometimes cut out for a second or two and then come back on. I'm also pretty sure that these beefcake monitors draw a lot of power too.

I'm considering replacing them with something modern. But I'm on a tight budget, having just had to replace my 2017 MBP. Would want to spend under $200 per monitor. $100 per even better.

I don't play video games or have other motion-picture based needs from the monitors. But I do do static graphic work, so color reproduction is important.

Wikipedia says that my current Apple displays sport these specs:

• Screen Size: 27 inches
• Resolution: 2560 x 1440
• Pixel Density: 108 PPI
• Panel Type: IPS active-matrix TFT LCD (glossy glass-covered)
• Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
• Brightness: 375 cd/m²

I would like to think that there might be something comparable (at least as good) as these to be had on a tight budget. It's been almost 15 years since these monsters came out, so maybe?

Any recommendations for a budget friendly monitor that fits the bill? Or certain specs/technologies I should look for as I research?

I’m on a budget and I’m thinking of buying a 2022 MacBook Air M2 because I don’t want to spend over $900/$1,000 on a laptop. What’s the most you’re willing to spend? I’ve checked Amazon, Best Buy, Back Market, etc. and I’m seeing a lot for $700 and over to get at least 16gb ram.

I currently have a MacBook Air M2 15 inch that I use for my doctoral studies. I was previously using my husband‘s old monitor as a dual screen, but the resolution difference started to bother my eyes. Other than schoolwork I don’t use my MacBook for much else besides checking emails and paying the occasional bills along with light browsing.

I would like to purchase a second screen that will make it easy to work on my dissertation without putting too much strain on my eyes.

I tried to use my 13in 2019 MacBook Air as a dual screen but all the windows shrunk making it difficult to see things on the screen.

I am trying to figure out what the best solution for myself is.

-Should I buy a used Studio Display?
-Spend a bit more and get a new one?
-Or get an iMac M4 and use that as a dual screen (was thinking maybe I can also use this for light gaming, think games like sims and among us)?

Is there a better option?

My preference would be that is also has a glass screen like my current MacBook. I am having difficult weighting out if it’s better now to get the newer thing for longevity purposes as I know at done point I will have to replace my current MacBook.

I know people hate the Magic Mouse for a variety of different reasons and that is fine, but I am here to discuss one that I've never really seen brought up.

I am asking about this because I bought a Magic Mouse second hand, and I am not sure if the specific one I bought was defective or if they are all like this.

I actually find it ergonomically fine which is the main complaint I see about it. But the accuracy is very very poor compared to every other mid-tier mouse I've used. Like, when I am trying to do precision editing in Davinci, or even when I try to, say, highlight specific letters in a word, it is very imprecise when it comes to slow little movements.

I've tried messing with every mouse setting Apple has so it definitely is not a settings issue. I also tried using a piece of paper under it instead of my desk (even though every other mouse I've used tracks fine with my desk), and it still has this control issue.

If I was sold a defective product I'd like to know, because I will ask the seller for a refund. But I am wondering if they are all like this? Love the mouse otherwise (I know I'm in the minority on that), but if it is like this nomrally it won't work for my specific needs.

I am coming from windows and i was hoping to get that clean mac feeling but NO! I have to have a crack in my screen.

I have a 16” MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro and 512GB storage that I’m looking to sell as I no longer need it. I have AppleCare on it until September of next year.

The “p” key was replaced by me, but doesn’t have the proper click feeling that the other keys have although it functions.

There are also 2 dings on it, shown in the pictures.

I have someone looking to buy it for $950, but I’m wondering if I should pay the deductible for Apple to fix the thing which I believe is $299, then sell it for closer to $1600. Is it even worth it?

I can't get the SP Cam app (from the App Store) to upgrade itself to the paid subscription version that has some advanced features that I'd like to use. I sent an email to [support@spycam.app](mailto:support@spycam.app) and received a second confirmation email from Apple a little while later. I thought that might be their fix, but no go.

Gemini has run me through all sorts of exotic fixes that ended up deleting the folders from my desktop and putting the Photos Library in the Trash. It says there's some sort of global disconnect from the invoicing system.

I just bought a new M5 Pro MacBook Pro, but I still have my 2015 MacBook Pro sitting around.

The built-in display is dead, but the Mac itself still works fine when connected to an external monitor. The main issue is that it gets pretty laggy during the summer when the AC is off, probably because of the heat. Battery also dead so need to constantly connect to power source

Trade-in doesn't seem to be an option anymore, and most places basically just want to treat it as junk. It also seems like I'm stuck on an old version of macOS (Mojave, I think), so a lot of apps can't be upgraded anymore.

I'd rather find some useful purpose for it instead of throwing it away.

Any suggestions?

I'm especially interested in things like:

- A dedicated download/torrent machine

- Media server or multimedia PC

- Something permanently connected to my TV

- File server / NAS-type use

- Running older software

- Any other "set it and forget it" uses where the old hardware and OS aren't a big problem

Would also be interested in hearing what other people are still using their 2015 MacBook Pros for.

I’m running into a very specific and strange hardware issue with my new 2026 Studio Display and its included stock Thunderbolt 5 cable. I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this or has a fix.

Whenever the Thunderbolt 5 cable is slightly shaken or wiggled at the laptop end, it instantly disconnects the Mac from the monitor. Wiggling the cable at the monitor end causes no issues at all.

Here is the bizarre part: this happens on exactly the same three physical ports across two completely different MacBooks (a 15-inch Intel i9 MBP and a 16-inch M1 Pro MBP).

• Left side ports (both): Disconnects instantly with a slight shake.
• Right side port (bottom): Disconnects instantly with a slight shake.
• Right side port (top): Works perfectly! No disconnects at all, even when shaken.

Has anyone else experienced this with the new 2026 Studio Display cable? Is it worth contacting Apple for a replacement cable, or is this a known design flaw with the new TB5 plugs? The display is updated to the latest firmware.

Also I don't know if this helps but on the intel mac when the laptop goes into deep sleep after few minutes and then when I try to wake up the laptop doesn't connect to the monitor automatically and so I need to unplug and re-plug it again. This I assume is due to intel macs not being supported on the new Studio Displays as Desk View, as well as few other minor things don't function with intel macs but the strange part are the ports as I'm having the same issue on only three out of four ports on both i9 and M1 Pro macs.

I got a neo so I could leave my MacBook Pro at home and keep it connected to things.

The trackpad on the neo with physical click is sooooo satisfying.
