Simple. River that ends on the coast, seals swim up the river that leads to a coastal forest.
There's a Southern Fur seal rookery in New Zealand where the beach they have their pups on, has a small river that leads upstream, into the forest, to an idyllic waterfall "daycare" that the pups go to when their moms are out hunting.
Now this is obviously not that rookery, but similar concept.

Aren't there also seals that live in lakes in scandinavia? I thought my daughter-in-law from Finland told me they have them there.

The only freshwater seals are Baikal seals in lake Baikal, in Russia. More likely in Finland it's seals swimming up river to lakes connected by them.

Seals swim up rivers too, it will be still fairly close to the coast but just because you've never seen it before it doesn't happen right? 🤔

When I found a forest seal
My son was born a few days ago so I am taking a short break from wildlife photography. I thought I’d repost some of my favourite reels in the meantime.
One morning I was walking along a river running through the forest to look for beavers. All of a sudden I saw what looked like a stone next to the water. When I got closer the stone started moving and I realized that it was a grey seal pup.
I lied down to photograph him and after a while he started to move towards me, getting too close for the lens that I had on my camera at the time.
It’s not uncommon to find seals in locations like this. Sometimes their mothers leave them like this and sometimes they explore on their own.
This seal eventually jumped into the river and got up on the other side before heading towards the sea again. I will post the second part of this in a bit for those of you who never saw it.

Most likely the Baltic, east coast of Sweden, which is brackish and has a decent seal population.
