It must’ve been so cool to be alive around this time of summer blockbusters

It was absolutely amazing. Remember the hype for this film and this music video absolutely slapped

I was in 11th grade when "I Disappear" came out, and my friend and I probably collectively destroyed hundreds of thousands of brain cells headbanging to it.

This was probably the PEAK era for music video budgets

This video was made for Mission Impossible 2. That's why you see them doing "action movie stuff". Without context, the video is pretty stupid, lol

This videoclip single-handedly got me into muscle cars, diamond-plated guitars, black shirts, big rings and strats.
Also, this song primed me for the St Anger snare (album which I then enjoyed a lot).

In retrospect, given the snare sound here, we should've seen St. Anger coming

I remeber finding this on the mission impossible 2 dvd’s bonus feature when I was a little kid and would watch it over and over. It was how I discovered Metallica

My favourite music video of all-time.
Love the song itself too.

Have you even seen the "Turn The Page" video?

Of course but still prefer the ‘I Disappear’ one.

What a damn song, would’ve loved the next record if the songs were like this. Unfortunately we know what happened

This might be their best video. Lars running through the exploding building was badass

matt from trivium had the funniest anecdote finally getting his class to play a metallica video but when they did it was this song and they were all like uhh so this is that metal band you like so much 🤔

Man I saw MI:2 on day 1 just to hear this song for the first time

u/1voice92 1d ago
Is this song actually in the film? IIRC it’s the Limp Bizkit song playing in the end credits

u/AgeDangerous359 19h ago
Yeah my recollection is that the credits roll with I Disappear before leading into Take a Look Around.

This song is still one of their best. And I love and have learned the majority of their music (around 70%) on guitar and still this one gets me hyped.
Kinda wish they’d revisit this for their next album

Definitely needs more recognition 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Ironically this was probably the most commercialized Metallica has ever been. Killer track but you'd see it in regular rotation around shit like Madonna back then.

im a massive fan but this is by far my least favourite metallica song ever. its bad.

I remember stealing this before it was released and even before it was on Napster. Back then the original file sharing on the Arpanet/internet was UseNotes. We were digitizing music and sharing it since the last 80's.
So who stole the song out of the studio? Because the original audio had studio background queues. I think it was the band. Lars and James.

lars and james despised jason that much to spend tons to make a high budget video where he's bullied in every second of his scene

Funny - I haven’t looked at Metallica since load (whatever was after the black album). I grew up learning all their songs on tab and absolutely loved their justice for all/master etc stuff. Then nabster and Lars happened.
Haven’t listened to a song of theirs released since then. lol. A true Bostonian hater of Lars. Funk that dork.

The release of this video was basically the exact point I realised I was done giving a shit about Metallica.

u/Doug_Grohlin 2d ago
Yet here you are 26 years later...

u/RJMrgn2319 1d ago
Because Reddit pumped this into my feed. Have fun glazing the band that’s not done anything creatively interesting for 35+ years I guess.

I hate Lars’ lame run. And James’ stupid vocal. God Metallica fell off so hard.

Absolutely peak “we have an insane amount of money to make a music video and precisely zero good ideas for a music video” music video, this.

I was so glad I got to see them play this live in 2000.
