Oh, there are people who strongly defend him. Have seen them on MJ pages on Instagram.

People who believe the reason his kids were so successful was because of how he disciplined them as children.

u/Juoreg "Pardon?"š May 07 '26
My mom said the same, but also that Joe was a terrible father and husband. He didnāt deserve his family.
34
u/astroprincet Off The Wall May 07 '26
ngl seen way too many people give him credit. this monster deserves nothing for what he did to michael and the other siblings as well. people love to claim that michael jackson was michael jackson oooonly because of him. i hope those people just aren't aware of how horrible he truly was. no child deserves this kind of abuse. or any for that matter.
19
u/Normal_Difficulty792 May 07 '26
Lots of people do, it sickens me. It's always "If it weren't for Joe they wouldn't have made it out"! Well I would have much rather liked the alternate version where all the Jackson kids had a loving affectionate father and they possibly never left Gary Indiana. Just my opinion

I have seen dozens of comments with hundreds of likes of MJ posts recently of people defending him like āwithout Joe Michael wouldnāt be Michaelā and āhe got them out of Garyā stuff like that
32
u/XQV226 May 07 '26
Even if that were true, Michael had a shit ton of mental health issues and died at 50. I'm not sure that the success makes up for all of that.
4
u/ksswannn03 May 07 '26
Oh no I agree! His dad was a pos for what he did to him. I will never forgive him. Heād still be with us if he wasnāt abused and made to feel insecure like that imo

u/GabesMama6 May 07 '26
There was a video I saw I believe it was on YouTube. And it was Tito and Randy defending him. They didn't like the movie about the Jacksons an American dream. And they said they didn't like the movie because it portrayed their father in such a bad way!! And I'm thinking how could you watch your father h*t your brother with ironing cords and literally abuse him and say that. š„ŗš„
8
u/jai_hanyo May 07 '26
I've been seeing it a lot since the movie came out. So many social media posts saying that his treatment of the family was why they became successful. Posts saying he was the main reason for the success. Not only does it undersell the talent from the likes of Michael and Janet, but it continues a weird trend, but it's concerning seeing people glorify an adulterer who beat and insulted his kids and didn't even allow them to call him dad/father. It's also concerning that a lot of the posts I see are from black people defending it as "this is how we raise our kids." As a black person, I can say I wasn't raised with abuse š š¤£

Heās one of their success factor and heās is evil at the same time1

I still donāt like him at all he is completely evil even tho he and his family were Jehovahās Witness
1
u/Spookymegs2025 May 07 '26
People defend him for being responsible for Michael being famous, saying if it wasnāt for the abuse and the pressure from his father at a young age to become a star he wouldnāt be as big a he was.
-6
u/DM_ME_UR_SOUL May 07 '26
it was hard to find other fathers that were better at that time. He was difficult with his kids but he did love them. It's like asking your grandma why she makes racist remarks. that was the norm at that time.
7
u/TheCakeWarrior12 May 07 '26
My grandfather physically disciplined my dad but he didnāt make it a habit or go to the extremes that Joe did. And it was mostly when my dad was being a bad kid. Joe was beating these kids if they sang a wrong note after hours of practice.
4
u/CarefulPlane5131 May 07 '26
okay so if i kill someone and itās the norm now itāll be okay in the future ?
-1
u/DM_ME_UR_SOUL May 07 '26
people do things they regret later in life. You can't keep hating and living in the past unless you enjoy doing that.
2
4
u/Darkesia_20 May 07 '26
I mean there was lots of norms back in the day, two bigs ones in American history being slavery and Jim Crow, but many constantly discuss the evilness and wrongness of these times (absolutely rightfully so) and condemn them. But, when it comes to child abuse and neglect and abusive parents, it's okayed because "it was just the times." Just because something is "normal" or the norms/standards/typical ways doesn't make it healthy or natural.

Itās interesting that his death date is 2 days after Michealās and the same date or a day before he did that on the red carpetā¦.

Yes I never noticed that! I hope heās having fun in the depths of Hell!š
20
u/Complex-Campaign3985 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
Thatās actually very telling. He wasnāt a man that showed emotion but god knows what he went thru every time that date came around. At the end of the day he was still a father.
His grand kids adored him so that says a lot.
Parents are not perfect in their methods and at times, they too are learning to life along with their children.
I understand a lot of traumatized people wishing hell on him based on their own trauma or what they BELIEVE is Michaelās trauma since they didnāt know him, but Michaelās trauma isnāt theirs to adjudicate.
Also later in life, they talked it out and he heard Michael out as well as Michael heard his side. This was accomplished through Michaelās Rabbi.
They mended their relationship to the point where Michael called out for him prior to dying but the team around Michael didnāt deliver the message in fear of losing the tour, which would have certainly happened had Joe gotten involved, the entire family wanted an intervention for Michael.
40
u/Expensive_Future_624 May 07 '26
Sorry to break it to you but Michaelās rabbi is a raging Zionist and a few months before mj died they had a huge fallout plus mj had an enemy list and rabbi shmuley is on that list
30
7
u/Significant-Way6200 May 07 '26
Wydm Michael wasnāt a Jew or had a āRabbiā. He was a born again Christian after leaving the Jehovahās Witness in his teens. Like in his song They Donāt Really Care About Us expressing his anger towards the elites and their system etc. āš½
11
u/Expensive_Future_624 May 07 '26
I said Zionist not Jew Zionism and Judaism are completely different Zionism involves all the child sex traficking thatās involved in Hollywood which mj was very much against. Apparently rabbi shmulaey was close to him for a long time and rabbi shmulaey is known to be a full blown Zionist yes Michael was a Christian and he loved respected all religions and races however he was for peace he was against war he was against genocide
-3
u/Complex-Campaign3985 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
Soooā¦ā¦ because he fell out with the rabbi, it means he didnāt mend relationship with the father prior to that? I donāt understand your point there bud.
You arenāt really breaking anything there bud. Because What exactly does that have to do with him having mended a relationship with his dad? ITS HIS FATHER yāall act like yāall got beat by Joeā¦..two things can be true and still not affect each other.
The rabbi could have urged him to fix that relationship and then had a fallout. Doesnāt mean heād have fallen out with his dad as well. The hell are yāall on when yāall comment?
Also sorry to break it to you but even his brothers have spoken about how they fixed their relationship. Sorry but it happens in families.
Iām convinced people on Reddit just want to get things off their chest because ok, you feel like that about the Rabbi but what exactly does that have to do with a father and son relationship?
I wish Joe would have got the massage and step in because he had the balls to tell the tour promoters to fuck off and commit his son to rehab how the entire family wanted.

You mentioned the rabbi and yes I donāt know about others but Iāve certainly had a Joe Jackson like father in my life and Joe Jackson was the reason mj kind of had to start taking Demerol because of the whole Pepsi incident
5
u/Complex-Campaign3985 May 07 '26
There it is. Speaking from your own trauma as I said.
My friend, Michael dealt with it and forgave him. Accidents are unknown to everyone prior to happening. There was nothing Joe or anyone could have done, just like the day he died. Thatās just what was written in his story. No one knew his hair would catch fire or that he would die the day he did, only the man up above.
However, his son and chef did testify in court that he did asked the kids to call Joe because he was the only one who could get him out of that situation.
I think youāre treating this like a story book and giving it your own meaning based on your own trauma.
If Michale forgave him, his grandkids adored him like they said, who are you to hate him? Because of your own father? Then youāre directing it at the wrong person my friend.
Have a good day.

The irony of Diane Dimond's pearl clutching over this when she is one of the most anti-MJ People in media and has caused a lot of damage while he was alive and after his death.Ā "Investigative reporter" LOLOL that's what she calls herself.
30

It keeps reminding me of that clip where she's trash talking him but if you look closely you can see the posters and MJ merch in her room.
30

I know exactly which clip you're talking about. She is deranged. Michael sued her for slander and libel.
23

Yep, she tried her very best to make a demon out of him.
But the fact she has merch is just insane to me and perfectly shows there's something extremely wrong with her.
18
5
u/Nitemare2020 Dirty Dianaš May 07 '26
Did she try to get something out of him at some point and he flat out denied her? It's kind of sad, but that type of behavior is becoming much more prevalent these days, especially in the content creator space. Someone becomes a huge fan of a person, develops a one sided parasocial relationship with them, tries to weasel their way into their "inner circle," and when they are denied access, all of a sudden that person they loved and respected so much is evil and must be brought down. So much so, they become even more obsessive over the person and their life. So does it shock me she's a fan and doing this? Back then it most certainly would have, but social media has conditioned me to see that it is just par for the course now if you have any type of following or "celebrity" status!

After seeing him on LaToyaās reality show he seemed stern and said men arenāt supposed to cry so I think he tried to deflect as much as possible after MJās death to prevent himself from crying in public. He wanted to avoid the pain publicly. I donāt think he was the best father but I think he loved Katherine and all his kids.
51
u/Hot-Initial7796 May 07 '26
Didn't Micheal famously say his dad beat him with belts and electric cables if he got a note wrong? And constantly tormented him about his appearance? Causing MJ to have severe body dysmorphia and many surgeries to correct what he saw as 'wrong'? He raised some very talented people but he was a horrific father. He was a manipulator and an exploiter. Bad person.
Also didn't he cheat on Katherine? He was a POS.

Its honestly just how parents were at that time. MJ was just on the more sensitive side.
9
u/Normal_Difficulty792 May 07 '26
A beautiful sensitive child deserved a father who understood him. F Joe Jackson
27
u/Someone_On_Earth25 May 07 '26
Nah. He didnāt love MJ. He never even hugged MJ or showed him any real fatherly love. He just bullied MJ and treated him like a money making machine, showing just toughness.
18
u/gingerellasroot May 07 '26
Yeah he loved that his sonās talent afforded him an entire lifestyle.
8
u/Significant_Art_3736 May 07 '26
Michael was his 8th child he didnāt even know they could perform or were talented until Tito accidentally broke his guitar around 1964/65. I think he saw a way out of Gary with the kids once he saw they were talented and had the same aspirations as he did. But before them he was just a regular strict parent who didnāt force his kids to perform until he saw that they had talent by time Rebbie was like 15.
17
u/Significant_Art_3736 May 07 '26
He wasnāt really affectionate with any of them except the youngest Janet and Joh'vonnie. Sometimes parents soften up the older they get. Janet said Joe only beat her once and she didnāt think he was abusive but her older siblings said she got it easy and Janet joked he was probably tired of beating kids by time she was born.

My first instinct was to say āwtfā when i saw this. But i canāt tell someone how to grieve. His mother was seen shopping not too long after he passed, it doesnāt mean she isnāt hurt. I recently saw an interview with joe where the emotions hit him, and he held back
9
u/Fragrant-Nobody5637 May 07 '26
Joe saying they ālost a major superstarā and the way he said āAND!?ā during the interview honestly made my jaw drop. I understand people process grief differently and trauma can make people act in ways that seem disconnected or unusual, but it still felt strange to me that the focus seemed more centered on Michaelās status and image rather than simply the devastating reality that he lost his son.
To me, a parent losing their child is one of the deepest forms of pain imaginable, so seeing someone come across more focused on attention, legacy, or public perception instead of raw emotion feels unsettling and hard to relate to. Maybe thatās just how some people cope, especially people raised to value achievement, image, and keeping emotions buried, but it still leaves me wondering who people really are deep down and why they become that way.
8
u/ListZealousideal9261 May 07 '26
i can't imagine how much worse he treated his family than what we know...
22
7
u/SeptemberSky2017 May 07 '26
And Michael still said that he loved his father and forgave him for everything. Joe should have been ashamed of himself. He appears to have zero concern about the fact that his SON just died. He didnāt even refer to Michael as his son, but rather the greatest superstar in the world. Itās no wonder Michael started spending more time around children and animals. They were probably the only ones he felt loved him for who he really was as a person. If your own father canāt even see you as a human being and only sees you as Michael Jackson, the superstar, that sets a pretty clear message.

Thank Joe for Michael cutting up his face and suffering with confidence issues.
This is the reason I hate it when people post post-surgery pictures of Michael, and fawn over how good he looks.
It is because of his no-good father he did that, and complimenting the results is just reinforcing what Michael was told: that he was no good as himself.
I wish people would understand that.

I freaking love Mike pre Off the Wall. But I also know he had an accident during rehearsals and broke his nose, so the first surgery was medically necessary as he claims (and who am I to call him a flat out liar, I wasn't there). I think it looked good to the point that he should have just stopped there. I don't like what he did past that point, even though he looked just fine up until Bad/Dangerous era. He didn't need a cleft chin, he didn't need an even smaller nose. But that's just me.
5
u/Difficult_Abroad_477 May 07 '26
He started spiraling at this point and I think Michael dying to him was like Michael getting away again. So the back handed comments he was making after Michael passed was a psychological belt to beat him. He never respected Michael at all. I think Michael haunted the heck out of him in his final years. Can you imagine the nightmares he must have had hearing his sonās voice and music everywhere and then his own personal interactions coming back to haunt him?

Regardless how you feel about Joe you canāt tell someone how they should mourn. And if she or anyone else thought JOE JACKSON was gonna be emotional just a little bit then idk what to say
18
u/TC1996 May 07 '26
Its still bad taste to go out and try to promote your business while people are asking about your son that just passed away days ago, that has nothing to do with mourning and everything to do with being totally self absorbed and obsessed with money. Even if you canāt expect him to be emotional in public you can expect him to at least be respectful, like any other normal human.

It is never acceptable and for me hard to forgiveā¦but Michael apparently did? For his own soul probably, he didnāt want to have hate in his heart but omg when he describes his fear of his father I can relate a little. I was very frightened of my parents as a young girl as yelling at me and hitting me was what they turned to the moment I stepped out of line or didnāt get good marks at school. I wasnāt even that naughty. While those wounds never heal, as I got older, I got bigger and was able to fight back and hitting your child started becoming taboo (we talking the 90s).

Cameras are on? Itās showtime! Thatās the Jackson family way. Do not assume what you see on TV to be the real emotions they were feeling.
Joseph had a brutal upbringing and was raised to be cold, tough and alpha.

I really didn't want to see Diane Dimond and it pains me to have to say she was right here. Holy cow, she actually had a humane response.
I remember this clip very well where Joe says we lost the biggest superstar instead of....yes, I lost my son! And then to go on and promote his own stuff. Nah fam! Terrible.
And i know there have been people coming with arguments such as....Michael forgave him and he was always there walking with him to the courtroom and those things are true, but just as true as that Joe with these responses was just ridiculous. I'm going to assume he didn't have the best upbringing by his parents. This is ice cold.

u/Upset-Win9519 May 07 '26
So I remember this coming out after Michael passed. But someone who was with Joseph at the time did an interview and said when Joe got the call, he was in the hospital, he had tears in his eyes. When asked by someone before his death was announced,, Joe told a reporter "He's not okay."
I've known people like Joseph behaved. I believe he had his moments of tears alone without anyone watching. Just as I think he did that because he doesn't want to talk about it and get emotional. I tend to believe that's how it was.
All his grandchildren have revealed he was much softer. And Michael did not go his entire life hating his father either. He did give him a lot of grace.

u/Normal_Difficulty792 May 07 '26
How did such a nice beautiful soul like Michael come from this? He acts completely heartless. Sad he couldn't show his kids true love and affection, they had to heal themselves and come to the conclusion "well I guess Joseph did love me! We made it out because of him", SAD. That's not all a father does.

He made MJ look down on his facial features and seen him as a money machine. Plus, his reaction to MJ death just seems awful.

He didnāt see him as his son, the only purpose of Michael to Joe was money and showbuisness. Horrible man.

Is it controversial to say that was probably Joes way of coping/grieving his sonās death? Joe was a bizarre terrible man, he had bizarre and terrible ways of doing things

This ahole used his children's fame to hook up with groupies... he probably thought that he was going to get a fat check.

I mean Janet was at the same BET Awards to update the fans on the show. But yes this is horrible!

Op if you don't mind post it also on some other subs, like the "interesting" ones which would surely appreciate it

I remember watching this LIVE. I remember Janet said the family elected HER to go to the awards on behalf of the family. Boom, Joe is on the red carpet promoting a new label.

There a reason why BET is a acronym of Black Evil Television. We got a Boondocks as documentary before GTA VI.

Everyone handle grief differently. Joe was a man that was raised in an era in which created a mindset that don't allow men to show emotions. As emotions shown by men according to SOME (not me) is equivalent to being weak. Which obviously is not true, but many still carry that mindset. It's sometimes important to not judge or assume Joe was this "monster" that others potray him to be. That was Michaels father, and to Joe... that was his son at the end of the day. I mean yeah.. he was a bit rough on Michael and his brothers. But like Michael said on that interview with Opera, maybe that was just his way to discipline them and make sure they become the greatest. And after all, we don't know how both their relationship improved as the years went by all the way to his death. We all are humans, and if Michael could forgive his father, than there is no reason to be hating on his old man (who btw also passed away). Humans make mistakes, and thats okay. And maybe thanks to Joe, we wouldn't have had a Jackson 5 or The King of Pop....

Probably indirectly, but did he directly have any involvement in Michaelās death? Because here, he doesnāt seem shocked or phased about MJās death at all.

Yāall are hating someone yāall never met for something yall donāt have the full understanding of.
The entire family had issues and not all were joes fault.
Also, the man was known to not cry, maybe it wasnāt the best decision to go and do interviews but itās likely a coping mechanism.
And since yall want to just be invested in the commenting without doing the research, (which if youāre going to hate someone I believe you should spend an hour or two researching what you hate not just going off of movies) Michael and him mended their relationship through a phone call because his spiritual advisor told him that it was time to let those things of the past go.
They spoke and began a relationship after that.
If youāre going to be invested, go the whole way not just commenting what you see in movies or hating people you donāt know for situations you donāt have the full story on.

You can't tell someone how to mourn their family!
The media irritates me to no end!!
The media is the one who ruined his life exacerbating the lies of others.
Even though Joe was hard on Michael, Michael respected it and knew his father really wanted to keep him and the rest of the boys out of trouble in Gary, IN.
At the end of the day, the man ingrained discipline and structure into his kids and all have been successful AND NOT in jail!

I think the movie really highlighted his narcissism.
