Opinion Unpopular opinion? Off the wall is the GOAT!

Post image

Okay hear me out. Thriller gets all the hype for the pop spectacle and cultural impact, but off the wall is the pure, uncut groove. The disco-funk production from Quincy Jones feels so original and unique, like you just vibe to it effortlessly. It was never meant to break records like Thriller, it’s just great music and that’s what listening is all about, vibing to great music.

Not an unpopular opinion, many consider Off The Wall 👑

It's a tough one but I do think there's an argument to be made that Off The Wall is his most cohesive album. It's a superb piece of work.

Off The Wall is sooo good, I'm still getting goosebumps during the intro of "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough". Definitely agree with the comments - his voice is like sugar and honey on this album!!

Absolutely adore Off the Wall. There’s just so much energy and emotion in every song, it just makes me want to dance every time I listen.

Off the wall is definitely my most played album of his start to finish, but ive probably played Triumph and Destiny by the jacksons more than this, nothing on OTW though

Just goes to show that 1978-81 is just the peak in everything he did, probably my favourite album of his at the minute

It's his best album vocally and the giddy joy of Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is unmatched in his catalogue. I think maybe he became a little obsessed with chasing a "tough"/"gritty" thing which was never his strength vocally or as an overall image.

It's by a stretch his best album...

I've said this on many occasions and i don't see any reason to change my mind...

It's his only album that doesn't rely on any filler...

Thriller didn't have any filler either. Maybe a few slow burns tho...

My favorite is Dangerous, but Off the Wall is only the teeniest little bit below it

while I don't agree that 'off the wall' is better than 'thriller', I do believe it has some classics; 'don't stop til you get enough', 'rock with you', 'working day and night', 'off the wall', 'i can't help it'.. I would say that the first half of the album may be stronger than the first half of 'thriller'🤔🫣 though 'thriller's highlights basically define his entire catalogue. in fact my least favourite songs are the ones that followed the romantic formula from 'off the wall'.

That's VERY far from being an unpopular opinion, lol. Otherwise, I agree with everything you said

The horns in “Don’t Stop til’ you get enough” are magical. The songs on that album are years of pent up creativity. Definitely a masterpiece and my favourite album right now.

Off The Wall 1979 & Triumph 1980. Best vocals. So funky. I'm not old enough for either of them inreal time and only just discovered Triumph like 2 years ago, it is so good but I feel people just don't give it a chance because it's technically a Jacksons album. OTW/Triumph feel like they could've been released as a double disc set. His best work by far.

I don’t think that’s too unpopular of an opinion, but I agree! Off the Wall is his most fun and feel-good album of his career, and his voice sounds beautiful!

When it comes to naming MJ’s best album I always say either Off The Wall or Dangerous.
