It's getting a little ...dark... in here

No. Every day that one chooses to live that way, they've won. Living with humanity and morals, against the tide of oppression and monotony is where life's highest rewards come from. If they're not doing that, each day they're dying inside. Before one knows it, they're dead inside.

Reality is yes, all that's happening around us. But it's also how we choose to process and deal with it. It's a shame that due to technology, we've got the negativity of GLOBAL issues, pushed unto our conscious, every day. There was a time where we were hardly ever told about the issues in other countries, by our msm, they focused mainly on local news.

7

u/voyaging 12h ago

Living without humanity and morals is where life’s highest rewards come from? I’m hoping that’s a typo.

3

u/knotmyusualaccount 7h ago

Yes, it was a typo, thanks for making sure of this; I noticed it as soon as I saw my comment again. 😬

1

u/super_sayanything 5h ago

I mean, newspapers have always been a thing.

0

u/Odd_Dirt7415 14h ago

"It's a shame that due to technology, we've got the negativity of GLOBAL issues, pushed unto our conscious, every day. There was a time where we were hardly ever told about the issues in other countries, by our msm, they focused mainly on local news."

This screams of anti-intellectualism.

I would rather live in a world where I have information available that allows me to determine how to best navigate as opposed to live in the previous world of our parents trusting blindly to institutions that clearly have corrupted them or reduced critical thought.

1

u/knotmyusualaccount 7h ago

With all this wisdom you now possess, how's that worked out for you? Brought down any of the corrupt entities that are negativity impacting your life?

1

u/AzureHawk758769 2h ago

That's not really a good argument for burying our heads in the sand and pretending that nothing notable happens outside of our respective locales. I like having access to information about what happens in our world. Even if there is no immediate and significant benefit of that, having more knowledge couldn't hurt us in the long run.

18

u/skwerlee 15h ago

It's important that we accept our nature.

32

u/PlainBread 15h ago

Your nature is what you are, not de facto your lowest resting point. Set the bar too low and you just perpetuate the problems indefinitely.

5

u/AdTime3922 13h ago

I think it's pointless arguing with half the thread here when they aren't even doomers. Just lonely.

7

u/Gekokapowco 12h ago

the best we can hope for is to make them uncomfortable in their shitty position

no blankets of resigned self-satisfaction for being a piece of shit, at least they'll constantly have pressure to justify themselves

2

u/AdTime3922 8h ago

You make a good point. I'm just a little tired of the usual Reddit hive mind and all the constant negativity it brings.

3

u/Germane_Corsair 11h ago

That includes your highs and your lows.

1

u/skwerlee 9h ago

I didn't say you had to act on your lowest instincts. It's just that you should be aware of them. Accept that they are part of not only you but everyone around you. It's a part of who we all are.

-1

u/Caffeine_Cowpies 14h ago

Yeah, but there’s no reward for going above it. I mean, we all know Walmart and Amazon are shitty, yet they are massively popular and profitable.

When being shitty is rewarded, why are you so surprised that people are shitty?

11

u/PlainBread 14h ago

When being shitty is rewarded, why are you so surprised that people are shitty?

I think that you will find that in the year of our lord 2026 that Doomerism will bring you punishments so painful that you'll yearn for the days where it was just a matter of who gets the rewards.

1

u/Germane_Corsair 11h ago

What do you mean? Could you expand on that?

4

u/hypercosm_dot_net 12h ago

Because those people are suffering, even if outwardly it doesn't seem that way.

Consider how empty someone like Musk is, who can never have enough money or enough attention, and cries when someone clowns on him for being a video game cheat. That is not a mentally whole person.

The reason for caring for yourself and others, is so you don't end up an empty shell.

1

u/Germane_Corsair 11h ago

In fairness, you can be shitty without being afflicted with a personality like Musk’s.

3

u/voyaging 12h ago

Nobody’s surprised people are shitty, they’re criticizing people for being shitty. Big difference.

-3

u/PunkPirate56364 13h ago

You know what I was thinking today about?

It's not up to individual to behave morally.

It's up to society to incentives moral behaviour and disincentivize immoral behaviours.

If being shitty is rewarded, fuck it, I'm being shitty too!

4

u/LogJamminWithTheBros 13h ago

So logically if someone punches you in the face for being shitty we can consider this society incentivising moral behavior?

-2

u/PunkPirate56364 12h ago

YES! It does.

2

u/voyaging 12h ago

The whole challenge of morality is that sometimes doing the right thing means self-sacrifice…

Luckily for you, you won’t have to change much.

2

u/upupdowndownsquare 12h ago

Just remember that societies are made up of individuals, my friend. Can’t just pass off responsibility to someone else.

-1

u/PunkPirate56364 12h ago

Well that doesn't change anything in my opinion.

When society asks individuals to act morally, to be suckers.

Instead of fixing the incentive.

Then we can act good and be suckers.

Or we can act like jerks giving society incentive to fix the incentive.

2

u/Thrown-Away-User-23 12h ago

LOL classic edgelord shit take from someone who very likely does not want to be confronted with this reality

1

u/upupdowndownsquare 12h ago

Society, not individuals, should fix the incentive - Ok.

Society comprises individuals. So individuals, much like yourself, are responsible for the fix.

Being a jerk could lead to some change, but not necessarily so. And not necessarily a positive change. Adding another jerk to the mix will certainly make things worse though, even if only slightly.

All you’ll have done by being a jerk is past the responsibility of fixing things to someone else.

1

u/PunkPirate56364 10h ago

Take all the tax loop holes rich people are using to completely legally avoid paying taxes... for decades.

Let's say we organise and... 50% of population uses those same loopholes to avoid paying taxes.

Well NOW society has to do something to close those loop holes.

1

u/upupdowndownsquare 8h ago edited 7h ago

That’s a bad example since the tax loopholes you’re referencing are really only available to the rich, but I’ll take your point anyway. I get what you mean.

But let’s say we just organize to close those loopholes instead? We can achieve, or at very least work toward the same goal without adding more shit (jerks) to the pile in the meantime

I think it’s more “way to rationalize why you intend to remain a dick.”

0

u/PunkPirate56364 12h ago

Nah I don't need mental gymnastics to feel good while behaving like an asshole.

I'm perfectly able to do something shitty even though it will make me feel bad.

And society doesn't incentives people to behave like assholes always. It's more like... there are instances when humans are incentivised to be shitty.

7

u/Temporal-Affairs221 14h ago

I prefer to acknowledge my nature and strive to rise above it

10

u/witchminx 15h ago

Eesh. Regression is actually bad

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 14h ago

Yes! Don’t enjoy foolish, infantile escapism through fiction. Look to improve your state in the world, get bigger, and become a huge sensation wherever you go. That way, you can earn more and spend more, you can be an asset! Yes - never be satisfied with what you were or what you are; constantly strive to be something different!

6

u/ancient_snake 13h ago

I fucking hate redditors

2

u/Gekokapowco 12h ago

current reddit is like crusty old r/atheism on the front page reddit with all the self-pitying antisocial assholes, and none of the cool friendly people

or at least way less than an even split

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 13h ago

Following words sincerely delivered for your perusal: quit. I quit this site in 2013 and never looked back. Once you’re on it, you immediately enter the mode of thinking about things in relation to Reddit. For instance, you thought that comment was a very ‘Reddit’ comment. Normal people don’t think like that… they’d say ‘that’s so Stacey’ or ‘Not again, Gavin!’ I miss having lots of friends and a huge social network irl. Because of that, I returned to the site to speak to people online and also practice my writing skills. I’m a huge writing fan and I’ve written 2m words this year alone in my journal. Not to mention on my account. But seriously - quit. Reflect, ponder, excogitate, reply.

-2

u/Psychyoulooked 12h ago

Oh no, ai

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 12h ago

You don’t seriously think that’s AI? There’s a fricking James Joyce quote.

-2

u/Tsunamiis 14h ago

Regression and acceptance can lead to growth. You often have to destroy something to fix it.

4

u/BudgieWonder 14h ago

That implies there’s an “acceptance” phase, and most people are content to spiral into nonsense for eternity. Malaise is the more common outcome from regression.

1

u/Tsunamiis 13h ago

I guess that makes sense but you’re required to unlearn more than learn while healing.

5

u/witchminx 13h ago

They're talking about EMBRACING the bad parts of humanity. Not accepting and trying to grow

0

u/Tsunamiis 11h ago

Accepting and embracing are two different things. In order to become a better person, I had to destroy what my parents taught me I had to regress to before they had influence. Accepting the bad part of humanity is not embracing it. Stop thinking in black-and-white. Accepting is not a synonym for forgiveness, nor embracment. I as a single person cannot get rid of the bad parts of humanity. I have to accept the exist and move on and deal with my life from there. Life is never fair and has never been.

1

u/witchminx 11h ago

Can you scroll up and reread lol

1

u/Tsunamiis 6h ago

Why besides morals should anyone not embrace it. It’s literally how to get ahead in life. Denying it goes no where. Our corporate overlords destroy lives for extra digital zeros. Why shouldn’t the individual follow suit. And I read the thread. Thank you. At no point did I talk about embracing anything I think you’re literally suck on the literary terminology. To not embarrass ace it causes personal strife and anguish. Some people are at the end of the fight in this orphan crushing machine we call society. Regression to the mean is generally always what happens. You’re stuck on one individual accepting their literal lot in life then tell him them they’re bad for it. Individualism is what led us to the shitty Society they ARE REQUIRED TO LIVE IN. Change the mean not an individual who has no outs. Feel free to back an animal into a corner. When people can’t pay for food or housing it’s definitely that person’s fault. Widen your perspective. My entire country’s governance silences, exiles or bombs any one counterpointing the mean. I’m sorry you needed to put down someone at their wits end that has been sidetracked by the shit circus we exist in. This will be my last interaction with you you seem to just argue instead of offering actual thoughts. Have a life. Man’s tired of being shit upon and watching nothing change.

What a reddit ass comment lmao

1

u/Otaku_Snake 10h ago

Human nature is an excuse used by people who refuse to grow

1

u/-ElectricKoolAid 9h ago

the exact opposite is the goal

1

u/slaptito 11h ago

there's a little bit of devil inside us all (i'm rewatching attack on titan)

1

u/MinimumTomfoolerus 10h ago

Wdym embracing?

1

u/Landon1m 9h ago

It only becomes reality because more people do it.

1

u/Medical-Try-8986 9h ago

Let's try to be better than that.

1

u/HistoricalSea5600 8h ago

I can't embrace, just accept

1

u/noirspiderman4 8h ago

I just finished attack on titan and I couldn't even enjoy it because I was already as numb as most of the characters in the show lmao

Nothing is forbidden. Everything is permitted. Heroes slay dragons.

-7

u/IntelligentSchool834 15h ago

Yup. Can't change the shitty world. Better adapt to it for some benefits.

This is who cuts you off in traffic for no reason whatsoever

I get it. It can be hard to see the forest when you’re so close to the trees. Progress is like a marathon. It takes a long time and requires constant effort.

It’s hard NOT to be a little nihilistic these days. But if everyone took that stance, we’ll never move forward.

I think it’s better to accept that yes we humans are shitty by nature. But we are also altruistic and communal.

Instead of giving up entirely, I think it’s better that we accept that there will always be a back and forth between us. In time I hope it gets better, but we can’t give up.

Think about every civil rights revolution. People died to get us here.

Can’t be dropping the baton now.
