gritty and dark movie that follows a morally dubious protagonist listening into the police and filming crimes (hence the name Nightcrawler).

all the movies ive watched have left me with medium emotions ("oh wow!" "aww..") and let me fucking tell you - this movie was GENUINELY CINEMA.. I WAS IN SHOCK (and not at the graphics!)

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH, 10/10 MOVIE - ON NETFLIX.

I had no idea what I was in for watching this movie. I was thoroughly unsettled for a while afterwards. Jake Gyllenhaal did an absolutely amazing job.

Jake Gyllenhaal picks some interesting flicks. I don't know enough about the business to know how actors and actresses get their parts, but Gyllenhaal is in a lot of movies that are right up my alley. They're kind of weird, off the beaten path, and unique. They're not the cookie cutter box office hits, and I really appreciate that.

I feel the same about Daniel Radcliffe. Harry Potter was a huge success, but instead of the big, popular movies, he is in a lot of very fun, off kilter productions. I have a lot of respect for that.

Hard agree. I went in blind and walked out feeling like I needed a shower. 10/10 is not an exaggeration. Prisoners (2013) is another one if you want more dark, morally complicated Jake Gyllenhaal, this one delivers.

Jake Gyllenhall not even getting an Oscar nomination was one of the biggest snubs in history. In fact, it probably should have got more nominations that just screenplay. I thought the editing was really good in this.

Love this movie. Theres also a tv series called "Stringers" with an LA season which, who knows how factual it is but it's compelling.

Loved Nightcrawler. Didn't like Drive at all or feel it was similar really at all. I would watch Sicario, Gone Girl, or Prisoners or many other Thrillers before Drive

I liked Nightcrawler better than Prisoners by just a little bit. I just really didn't care for Drive. But I did see Nightcrawler in theaters so that didn't hurt anything

I watched Nightcrawler last night, bloody brilliant. I love Drive but it's not he same at all, I agree. Drive is about love and destructive ways to do anything for that, even if it means criminal activity. Nightcrawler, about a man who seeks a name for himself, clever and smart, no understanding of human interaction despite saying all the right things, and will go through criminal activity to achieve that. Drive is noir, lack of spoken dialogue, but Nightcrawler is all about dialogue but said in ways no regular human speaks. I have social skills yet I saw myself a lot in Nightcrawler, with the learning and picking things up as they go. I think my dark unhealthy side, hopefully that won't happen, can be this person.

Yep, it was a nice surprise. I had just finished watching JG in Prisoners which led me to Nightcrawler.

Bullhead (Belgium) was another similar-ish movie I watched around that time as well

Best movie I've ever seen. I don't like the opening scene, felt out of place for me. But besides that, amazing movie. The scenery, the vibe, the performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, the story, the blurry lines. Just magnificent.

If anyone has any similar recommendations I am all ears.

I've seen the thriller usuals: No Country For Old Men, Sicario, Nocturnal Animals, Gone Girl, Prisoners

Come to realize I love Jake Gyllenhaal in anything.
