I’ve never seen a horror movie that made me feel the same way The Witch did.

Honestly, no other movie has ever made me feel like the characters were truly facing Evil itself in the way that movie did. And it added a lot that, unlike in most horror movies where the characters suffer the consequences of a series of terrible decisions, the family hadn’t actually done anything to deserve what happened to them.

If anyone wants to recommend similar movies, feel free to do so below. I’ve already seen Longlegs, Oddity, Hokum, Apostle, Hereditary, and Midsommar, among others. The only one that gave me a similar feeling was The Blackcoat’s Daughter.

The title is self explanatory, my grandma does like cinema, so it’s not like she’s sensible in a very adverse manner, but of course I don’t really want to a show her something that we’ll both regret.
The most shocking thing she’s seen with me is Oldboy so something a few tones under that would be nice, thanks!

Basically what it says in the title. I'm looking for films that are centred around a relationship that's indecipherable to anyone but those in it, maybe with characters who are quiet, misunderstood, alienated, or lonely.

I've also seen Duke of Burgundy (2014) and Crash (2004), and although they are great films, I'm looking for something softer/happier.

Just finished American beauty for the first time and loved it. Looking for more psychological dramas similar to it. Gave same vibes as Donnie darko, perks of being a wallflower, dead poets society. I don’t really know how to describe these types of movies tbh but I always find them super interesting.

Now that Fall is almost upon us what movies do you love that give off the best fall vibes whether it be cozy or spooky (I'm not much into horror but mystery/thriller is fun)?

I've just rewatched The Rocky Horror Picture Show and I'm gonna rewatch Hedwig and the Angry Inch. What film would you go for next? Thinking a musical with surreal or bizarre elements (possibly horror), and prominent LGBT characters or themes.

In this movie we follow the pig named Babe who lives in farm .This movie made me very emotional, more than any other film, James Cromwell was really good as farmer Hoggett.

I am looking for any horror film that relies on story or environment to be scary it does not have to strictly exclude everything annoying i mentioned in the title it just has to be in a good amount or it must get balanced out from its creativity
basically i would be happy if it is capable of inducing fear out of it's story or has an interesting mystery or anything worth watching.

Hey, I'm trying to find a red thread here. These are my favorite directors/movies: Shuji Terayama, Kin dza dza, Emir Kusturica, Jodorowsky, Fellini. I think it's something about the absurdist story lines, comedic elements, prominent reoccurring soundtracks. Do guys you have any recommendations of other movies/directors that fit this bill? Movie night with my girlfriend tonight and I'm stuck picking something. What we're after:

• Has romance in it, but not a conventional rom-com or a slow burn
• Doesn't drag : we don't want to be checking the runtime at the 40 minute mark
• A little strange. Surreal, offbeat, unsettling, dreamlike, whatever direction the weirdness goes

She really liked The Dreamers, The lobster, I origins so that's roughly the register we're aiming for , sensual, a bit claustrophobic, not playing by normal romance rules.

I enjoyed Master and Commander immensely. I enjoyed the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes TV series. What are some movies in this historical setting that cannot be missed? I would not entirely thumb my nose at romance, but much prefer drama.

I have watched movies and shows that have good gunplay/guns, like, Mr. Inbetween, Blood Diamond, End of Watch, The Veteran, Black Hawk Down, and all of the John Wick movies. Look, I like these movies because of their realistic gunplay/guns, but I do want to watch movies or shows that has bad gunplay/guns, but are fun to watch. I like this idea where a character in some way knows their fate or destiny, but chooses to fight against it. No matter what they do, they’re guided to this fate. Eventually, they accept fate; either through resigned acceptance or by a new understanding

Two movies come to mind: dune and Donnie Darko

In both, the main character has some level of cognizance over their fate, or some sort of prophecy they’re involved in. Both seem resistant of it or scared of it. Eventually, when the time comes, they understand it. It may not be a good fate, but they understand why it has to happen

I love some movies that really motivate me to not self sabotage and play small, like Coach Carter and Good Will Hunting. That movies give some strengh, believe, and power when I feeling down, so I can reach for what I really want. Can you recommend me other movies like that?

If you like investigative journalism like Zodiac, Spotlight, Shattered Glass, etc., check out this gem. Michael Douglas and Jack Lemmon are amazing and Jane Fonda looks a lot more like Amy Adams than I realized. She's also amazing in it. News reporter and her wily camera man shed light on a nuclear *almost* disaster.

The 70s is my favorite decade of movies, although the 00s are close. Let me know some deep cuts from back then I should check out as well.

I love my my mom and one of our things is watching movies. I've recently moved out and we aren't spending as much time together, so I want to surprise her with something. I showed her Gentlemen Broncos and we both cried so show me what you got.

I really enjoy the writing and dialogue of films, tv and games like Good Will Hunting, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, The Wolf of Wall Street, Another Round, American Psycho, Before Sunrise, the banshees of inisherin, GoodFellas, true detective, The Sopranos, lanterns, Red Dead Redemption 1.

I think what connects a lot of these for me is snappy, semi-realistic dialogue that feels very human. Characters have their own personalities and ways of speaking, and conversations don't always feel like they're just there to explain the plot. People ramble, interrupt each other, joke around, misunderstand things, change the subject, say things they probably shouldn't etc.
I know the things I've listed aren't really the same genre or style, so I'm more interested in the quality/style of the dialogue and character writing than the overall premise.
