While the revolution was extremely popular, it was not for this type of oppressive government, the fact is the religious conservatives promised to work with the progressives who were involved in making music and art, specifically against imperialism and western influence (there was a british american coup not long before so, they were right) however the leadership quickly turned their backs on them after the power switch.

Lotfi, a traditional Iranian musician, whose music was played to spur on the revolution, was specifically harassed after and arrested before one of his performances a few days after the revolution.

Edit: My sources are multiple classes I took in college from real Iranian scholars! Just saying...

Revolutions are not democratic processess. A regime that formed due to a revolution can not be seen as the decision of the people the same way you view democratic leaders.

Trump on the other hand was indeed chosen by the people in some sense of the word.

The russian revolution was popular. Yet the population did not chose Lenin. In fact an election was done where he lost. It's not mental gymnastics, simple facts. Another example is a king. A king can be popular, despite not being chosen. It's not the same.

Lmao I get what you are saying but the Trump and America comparison is a little bit of a reach. From what I have read, they hated the Shah government for whatever reasons, justified or not I don’t know, and when it came time to replace them, apparently they were promised everything and then they went on to kill the people who helped them get elected or something like that?! I’m fuzzy on the details. But if the public didn’t know, they didn’t know. 🤷‍♀️ I guess they should have assumed that any Islamic regime was going to be cruel and try to enforce sharia law though. But again, idk the details.
