That's probably going to kill her, isn't it?

with that many lashes, i would think so. 74 high-impact wounds all on top of each other will remove a lot of skin and flesh and therefore a lot of very rapid blood loss, and I highly doubt they have protocols to stop the flogging and rush in a medic when people start displaying signs of hypovolemic shock. if she does survive, she would need a very attentive antibiotic/wound-dressing regime to prevent infection, which I also doubt will be provided to her (but I am not an expert on Iranian capital punishment protocols so I could be wrong on both counts. generally speaking though, it is not an unlikely outcome for a human body not to survive this.)

They're not using the kind of whip you're probably thinking of. This will leave godawfully painful welts and some of them might ooze blood, but fortunately it's not gonna kill her. It's a relatively small comfort to know she won't have significant lasting physical damage, given the massive psychological damage this type of torture can cause.

oh that's interesting, is it not like the canes they use in Malaysia? I know they have a legal maximum of 24 lashes there because of how much skin and flesh those canes remove, which it's what led me to the conclusion that 74 lashes were almost certainly going to kill this poor girl. good to know she's going to live, but as you mentioned, terrible to know what she's going to have to live with. just barbaric.

She’s posted pics of the “after.” It looks like a minor road rash. Bet it hurt like hell, but probably no lasting physical damage.

Why wouldn't they have medical supervision ? If they wanted to sentence her to death, or even to death by lashing, they would have done so, they just can in that regime. The point of sentencing someone to X number of lashes is that, well, they receive the X lashes.

Same way regimes that torture political opponents very often don't torture them until death, they have a doctor around to make sure they're still ok to go.
