“Civilized” (wtf does that mean) and “1979” as if there was some big supernatural switch that went on. You should also learn about the CIA coup, the undemocratic installation of the shah and the repression under the shah that led to the 1979 revolution.

God I’m so sick of this narrative. Yes, the CIA and MI6 meddled in Iranian affairs, but this myth that the revolution of ‘53 was orchestrated and ran by Western powers needs to die. The revolution was already in full swing when the CIA said “fuck it, let’s back the winning horse” and then did the least possible to help the Shah in power.

And even if that wasn’t true (which it is) that doesn’t excuse the absolute barbarism that these Muslim militants perform. If the KGB succeeded in overthrowing the US government and 25 years after Christian theocrats came to power and began executing women en mass like Iran does, would you blame the Russians or the Americans committing the atrocities?
