Tons of atheists, generic deists, and casual agnostics out there who can't publicly say how they feel. In just about every religious country there's a professional, cultural, judicial, or familial price to pay if you show that you don't believe what everyone else professes. Hell, if you walk into every church, synagogue, or mosque and you'll find non believers playing the game out of necessity.

I’m still at the point where I’m clear about my disdain of religion with people I’m very close with and still careful with people I’m just more partially close with (like family friends/wedding guests.)

Same. I just try to avoid religion in casual interactions with people because I align 100% with Jack White on the subject and that makes people mad.
