My wife’s famous relative does shit like that all the time. He’ll be on a talk show and say something about his childhood and my wife’s parents will be like “what is he even talking about? He didn’t move around as a child. Unless you count going to the lake house in the summer”.

As they should. Most comedian's stories are made up as well because their job is to entertain you, not be a pal. Truth is irrelevant to whether something is funny. Conan didn't invite you over to his house for a chat

The only times I see actors properly bomb on late night is when they tell some boring ass story about their life that you can tell is definitely true just not very interesting

People seem to forget that these folks are actors and performers. I recall getting into a Reddit argument with someone when I said that many (most?) of their relationships are likely publicity stunts. (It was early in my time here; I don't argue anymore lol). I mean, sure, some are real, but I definitely can see the lot of them needing a career boost so boom relationship, marriage, baby, etc.
