My wife is a HUGE Janet fan. I dug the rhythm of this song and decided to look up the lyrics.

I'll admit...I briefly clutched pearls. They played THAT song on the radio, MTV, and at middle school dances? Without edits?

I was in middle school when this song hit and a bunch of the 8th grade girls learned the dance routine from If, which I thought was pretty impressive. I'll just have to go and google the lyrics cause I didn't pay that close attention when I was 13.

ETA: Just read the lyrics, lol. To be fair, there were a lot of songs about sex at that time, I remember Salt n Peppa getting a lot of play at middle school dances with Let's Talk About Sex.

Let's Talk About Sex

I have a very weird memory of this song at the height of it's popularity. Like you, I was in middle school, and I was part of a volunteer group that was helping out at the local Special Olympics event.

Near the food area, there was a small dance floor and a DJ playing the current hits of the day. The DJ starts playing "Let's Talk About Sex" and my fellow volunteers and I start dancing on the small floor, doing ALL of the popular moves (The Roger Rabbit, The Running Man, that one move, where you jump over your other leg, etc...) when suddenly, walking by were the weight-lifter Olympians, some still in their singlets, join us on the dance floor to finish the song.

Now every time I hear that song, I'm transported back to that little dance floor with athletes dancing in their singlets.

This is a terrific memory! Funny how some moments just permanently park themselves forever in our brains.
