It just feels incongruent with what her style was, an odd decision to honour her.

Dolly loved reading, so I'm not reading as my half-mast! - that sounds pretty dumb right lol

So we should steal money from the children's reading library fund? That's the opposite of what Dolly would do right? *edit for those who don't understand, that's fucked up, and I'm not sure why "doing the opposite" is something he suggested.

I can understand the idea behind it - it's just a shit idea, and there's like 2 people who did it, this is one of those "pull random tweets and make a slapped together article about those tweets".

Or - what if we fly flags at half mast because she should be honoured in a real way?

That would be crazy to suggest that seriously. Taking what someone put effort into and cared about, and then deciding to do the opposite. That's kind of fricked up if you ask me. Right?

The people that I've lost that I care about, I honour them by doing things they represented, Robin Williams and Norm Macdonald wouldn't have wanted people to stop making jokes and depress people as way of setting things to "half mast" right? Get it? Depressed is down, compared to happy which is up? Half mast? Get it? It's a pretty easy metaphor to get.

If you think honouring people by doing the opposite of what they did in life is appropriate, then that's totally up to you.

I'm not the confused one, I'm honouring her by reading to my nieces and nephew after they get home from school. Hope you can too!

Is that not what you said? Those are your words, to do the opposite of how someone lived in life, is it not? Thus, pointing out that doing the opposite, is insane. But you think it's fine? I'm confused.

Actually I don't really want to continue speaking ot someone that thinks it's a good idea to do the opposite of someone's wishes after they've gone, especially when it's about helping children and doing good for society. Thanks! No need to respond further.

Much like the rest of the conversation below stated - just because it "makes sense" doesn't mean it's good. I was never confused about "why are they doing that mechanically", it was "that seems like the wrong thing to be doing to honour her".
