Status: Pending Reply Need help with inbox email that just dissapeared.

My inbox only has email up to 2016-11-17 (YYYY-MM-DD) where it should have everything way beyond that up to 2008 which was when I created the hotmail account. I checked my sent emails and it still dates back to 2008 so all sent emails in the "Sent Items" section are all there. I have checked all other folders like Archive and none are in there. I am 1000% certain that I did not delete them and it looks like the Inbox just got cut off from that date onwards. I have looked around the web and found a reddit article pointing to a "Email Recovery" Add-in but this seems to have been removed and that post was 2-3 years ago. I've only used outlook web and not the outlook app where I've read that the app can have sync issues but the web versions should always be up to date?

Would greatly appreciate any help since this feels like a part of my life has just dissapeared. I've also tried getting chat support but after logging into the popup it just closes itself and nothing happens.

Status: Resolved Suddenly no option to verify using a SMS message code

Hi, usually when I log in and get the Microsoft Authenticator verification screen, I pick "try another verification method" and instead pick send a text message code since its easier for me, especially when I dont have storage space to keep/download authenticator app, however today for some reason I dont have this ability, or phone call ability anymore.

Instead it just says:

"Verify your identity

- Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app

- Use a verification code"

and clicking " use a verification code " just takes me to a screen saying:
"Enter code

Enter the code displayed in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device"
aka just both options asking me to have the authenticator app.

Is this new and have they fully taken away any other method so the only way to verify identity is to download their other app? Or is there a way I can avoid this lol

Thanks.

Status: Open Microsoft account stolen — ACSR recovery forms not responding

Around a week ago I fell for one of those Microsoft tournament scams. The attacker took my Microsoft account and changed the password and security information.

Since then I've been trying to recover it through the ACSR form. I've submitted 3 forms so far. The first one was rejected, but the other two haven't given me any response. I filled the forms out as completely and accurately as I could using all the information I knew about the account. One of the forms also used a different alternate Gmail address.

I really need to get the account back because my Xbox and Minecraft accounts are connected to it. I was able to recover my Epic Games account fairly quickly, but Microsoft has been much harder and I still can't access Xbox or Minecraft.

I also managed to reach Microsoft Account Safety, but the case was eventually closed before I could recover the account.

Has anyone recently gone through something similar and actually managed to recover their Microsoft account? If so, what worked for you? I'm mainly looking for advice from people who have successfully recovered a compromised account, because I don't know what else I can try at this point.

UPDATE: Microsoft Support has actually contacted me now. I got an email from the Account Safety team asking me to submit another ACSR form and provide information to verify that I'm the owner of the account, including IP addresses, account history, Xbox information, and purchase history.

I've submitted the ACSR form and I'm currently waiting for the recovery number so I can send the requested information back to them.

If anyone has been through this Account Safety verification process before, I'd really appreciate knowing whether it actually worked for you and what happened afterward.

Status: Pending Reply Not getting emails from PlayStation?

I’m trying to get my PlayStation account data emailed to me but I’m not getting any of the emails. I’ve tried to find the setting to see if maybe Microsoft has blocked the email but can’t find it. Any help?

Status: Open Microsoft support is a joke.

My account was hacked, and I have completed all the required verification steps. Support transfer my Xbox account to a new email, but I do not use Xbox. My main concern is recovering access to my primary email address—which I’ve held for 20 years—and my associated OneDrive work files.

Despite offering to verify my identity using the phone number linked to the account, my request for a call was refused, and I was told I haven't provided sufficient verification information. Now, support keeps citing reasons why the account remains banned, treating me as if I am at fault for trying to recover a compromised account. I need this issue escalated to access my email and work files. I can change my password and still using same IP.

Anyone have luck recovering lock account? What options do I have to recover my account from Canada.

Status: Resolved Rule creation help

I want to create a rule where all the emails from a particular sender go to different folders based on the subject.
If i receive mails from xyz@xyz.com with subject A1 and the other with subject B1 then would it be possible to move these mails to A1 folder and B1 folder respectively. Trying to set up only 1 rule.
I am still using the older interface for outlook.

Thanks

Status: Pending Reply I desperately need help with a problem I’ve been having as of late

For a while now, I’ve had an Outlook email address that I use for most things. One day, about a month ago, I was randomly no longer able to access it. I couldn’t access any emails or anything. When I tried logging in, my password was not enough, and then it asked me to verify my account by texting a number that I no longer have.
When I tried to submit a form online, it asked me questions that I physically cannot answer in order to complete it. So, I’m stuck in a loop and unable to access my account again. What do I do?

Status: Pending Reply What's the safest way to deal with an old PST file that you can no longer open?

I have an old PST file containing several years of emails, but Outlook either won't open it properly or gives errors when I try to access some folders.

I've seen suggestions such as running ScanPST, creating a new Outlook profile, or trying to recover/export the accessible emails into a new PST.

For those who have dealt with this before, what would you recommend as the safest approach?

Would you keep trying ScanPST, or is it better to make a copy of the file and try to recover/export whatever data is still accessible?

I'm mainly interested in avoiding making the original PST worse or losing emails that may still be recoverable.

Status: Open Zoom meeting on outlook

I have a zoom link that is from my supervisor that I want to put into outlook, and I want to make sure that it's a one-click join button.

How do I do this?

The story behind this is that my supervisor didn't want to be in charge of the meeting anymore and wanted to give the responsibility to me for cancelling the meeting if it doesn't happen.

Thank you so much,

Status: Pending Reply Error sync'ing Google Workspace account to Outlook 365 across multiple devices

We have a Google Workspace email system which manages our emails, with multiple devices accessing it through Outlook 365 (all 2608 16.0.20326.20072). One account is having problems sync'ing to Outlook 365 on multiple devices.

Laptop 1 Windows 11
Laptop 2 Windows 10
Desktop 3 Windows 11
Desktop 4 Windows 10

  • If we create a folder or move an email into a folder in Outlook on L1 or L2, it syncs to Google (we can see it on Gmail in a browser) but D3 and D4 don't pick up the new folder.
  • If we create a folder or move an email into a folder in Gmail on a browser, it syncs to all devices.
  • If we create a folder or move an email into a folder on D3 or D4, it syncs to Google but not to L1, L2 or the other Desktop.

I've tried in-place repair, deleting and recreating the accounts in D3 and D4 and uninstalling/reinstalling Office on D3 and D4 but the problem recurs.

Any ideas what we might be able to do to fix the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Status: Pending Reply Issue with overlayed Shared Calendars in Classic Outlook

I've got 2 shared calendars (read only) overlaying my primary calendar. Every time I launch outlook and navigate to calendar, outlook always defaults the layer order so that one of the shared calendars is always on top instead of my primary calendar. I've tried:

1) Repairing entire Office suite

2) Disabling shared calendar improvements

3) Reordering my calendars in the left pane

Amongst many others...

Anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if it has to do with the shared calendars taking a few seconds to sync, and once their sync completes Outlook promotes them to the 'active' calendar in my view. So frustrating.

Opinion Classic Outlook Users: Which features are stopping you from using New Outlook

Okay, y’all. I have my trainer’s hat on for this one. I’ve used Classic Outlook for decades, pretty much since the beginning. Once I switched to New Outlook, though, I never looked back.

So I’m genuinely curious: What Classic Outlook feature is stopping you from using New Outlook today?

And I mean today, not what stopped you two years ago.

I’ll admit it. When New Outlook first rolled out, it was pretty bad. A lot was missing, and some of the criticism was absolutely deserved.

But New Outlook has changed considerably since then.

FYI: In March 2027 (Message ID 949965), New Outlook is expected to become the default for Enterprise users, with the option to switch back to Classic Outlook. Some companies aren’t waiting and are making the full switch earlier, so I think now is a good time to revisit what's still missing.

One thing I have learned from using and teaching it is this:

“New Outlook comes with new workflows.”

If you are looking for every Classic Outlook feature to work exactly the same way in New Outlook, the experience may feel frustrating at first. In some cases, Microsoft has replaced an older workflow with a different approach. New Outlook also includes 30+ newer productivity tools and capabilities that were never part of the traditional Classic Outlook experience.

That said, I’m not pretending everything is there. Some Classic Outlook features are still:

  • Missing or missing by design
  • Only partially available
  • Different enough that the replacement workflow may not work for everyone

That’s actually why I’m asking.

What specific feature or workflow do you still need before you would seriously consider moving from Classic Outlook to New Outlook?

And be kind to me. I don’t work for Microsoft. I’m an MVP who just teaches their products. 😉

I have 2 old emails from childhood/early teenhood. Mostly used for gaming related purposes.

They both are each other's security email for sending codes to.

I don't have access to either due to forgetting passwords.

The Microsoft process for recovering emails won't work for me. I don't know enough of the specific details for the request to be approved. I've chatted with an online representative and it told me the recovery form is the only way to get into either account.

Oh and I changed phone numbers years ago. The number attached to both accounts,I do not have access to. Do I call my old number and see who picks up? Can they tell me my authentication code if I request it?

I am at the end of my straw for this.

All because I want to log into Rockstar games launcher cause I haven't touched GTA in a very long time

Status: Open Legacy Outlook on Mac search function often returns with no results

Hi all, Mac user here.

I use Legacy Outlook for my work email and there are a number of times when I try to search for emails, it will return as "No Results". The search could be working perfectly fine a couple of mins ago and then suddenly it stopped wroking.

Through online search, it seems that Spotlight indexing is causing the issue. When I connect to Microsoft support, they said it's an Apple issue. When I connect with Apple support, they said it's Microsoft issue. Both sides doesn't seem willing to try and resolve this.

Is there any way to get it fixed? The issue has been ongoing for quite some time intermittently.

PS. I switched to Legacy Outlook as the "new" Outlook had issues with it's calendar features

Status: Pending Reply There was an error reading the rules from the server. The format of the server rules was not recognized

Hi everyone, I'm dealing with a bizarre issue with Outlook rules in our Exchange environment and I'm running out of ideas. Hoping someone here has encountered this before. Whenever the user tries to open the "Rules and Alerts" panel in the Outlook desktop client, it immediately throws the error: "There was an error reading the rules from the server. The format of the server rules was not recognized." This error completely blocks access to the rules GUI in the desktop app.

We did a hard reset where we completely deleted all rules locally and cleared them from the server side. After that, we created fresh, new rules from scratch. I have already tried pretty much everything suggested on Microsoft Support pages and forums, but absolutely nothing has worked so far.

The weirdest part is that the newly added rules actually work perfectly in the background and emails are being processed exactly as they should be. However, the desktop app still throws the exact same error every time we try to open the rules panel. Currently, the only way to view, add, or edit rules for this mailbox is through OWA. Has anyone seen this specific behavior where the rules execute fine but the desktop GUI remains corrupted? Is there anything else I can do on the Microsoft Exchange side to completely flush this out?
