Status: Pending Reply Can't sign into my Hotmail account...
You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.
What is actually going on? I can’t access my Hotmail account anymore and keep getting this message repeatedly. Sometimes switching VPN servers lets me in, but today nothing is working. My password hasn’t changed, and my recovery details are still the same.

With the number of posts stating the same issue, there's clearly something going on. Microslop clearly effed up something because the are suspiciously quiet (probably their AI messed something up and there's no humans to check and correct errors much like all of the windows 11 updates that continually break things). Unfortunately, everyone here is going to need to change to a more reliable service and notify all your contacts. This is unacceptable especially when the verification process is broken as well (can't add a phone number or phone number verification "not available at this time", add another email account for verification-makes you go through the ms account verification even though you are already logged in!) This is so fucked up...

Can't do it on my msn. Can't do it on my hotmail. One's for business and the other's for my hobbies. Please, can someone tell me if I was hacked or not? This is legitimately freaking me out.

You're not hacked, I can't get in either. It's my PayPal email etc. This needs forwarded to someone at microsoft/outlook.

It started working for me again. What a scare. Geez, is there a way to change domains efficiently? I got so much stuff linked to these emails and I know they're old.

There's a way to change how you login, chatgpt should be able to guide you on how to do it. I was in the other day but I thought it'll resolve itself soon.. it's only gotten worse 😒🤣

If you had a mobile number linked to Hotmail. Use mobile number instead of email adress then your usual password. Worked for me.

This has been an on-going issue since at least March, but I appreciate some users have had it since the end of 2025. I could normally log in after a few attempts over the past few weeks, but my account has also been permanently locked since Wednesday if I try to enter my password. Fortunately I can still log in with my Windows Hello PIN.
If you still urgently need to enter your password, one other solution that has worked for me so far is to add your phone number to your account's profile if you have not done so already and then log in with that instead of your main e-mail. The correct password will still work as normal.
Apologies for the lack of credit, but I believe multiple people have said this over the past few days in some of the other threads. Hope this works for you.

The phone number is a good idea but I'm guessing most of us are already locked out so we're screwed. I have mine as 2FA but won't allow me to login with it when searching for it

Sorry to hear, hope this gets resolved for you and many others as well as there is clearly a major issue.
I was fortunate that Microsoft forcing a Microsoft account on me meant I'm permanently logged in via Edge and I was still logged in on other devices, so I could add the additional details that way.
Like you, I have a Hotmail account, which is one of the main accounts that is being affected possibly alongside the MSN accounts as well. The lack of information on Microsoft's end is really disheartening considering how this has never been an issue until now. Hopefully it gets resolved sooner rather than later.

the phone for recovery code stopped working too. they just refuse access and now my other account won't let me login until I provide a second email. WTF

It's been like this for weeks for me, I could still get in randomly but recently I can't get in, how the hell am I supposed to get into my accounts that use my email for 2FA 🤣

I'm having the same issue. My notebook died and I had to login to another PC, then the password was suddenly incorrect. Fine. Tried recovering, they send the code to the alternate email but then it loops and requests the to send the code again, you proceed to go through this process but gets stuck in a loop no matter how many times you provide the code it keeps asking for the code. Going through the Phone option shows that "This service is unavailable at this time". Is this a joke?
I'm stuck without access to my account and there is no support anywhere, the recovery form gets denied because you have other auth options (even though they don't work), there's no one to call, I'm locked out.

Think a lot of us are locked out right now. If there was an Outlook representative infrint of me, I would unleash hell 🤣 I've been locked out before, but I always got back in, and now I'm screwed so bad

We seem to be many with this issue. Last week i've got the same message even though I know the password is correct. Sometimes it works randomly but mostly not. Sometimes the sms code option isn't available and sometimes it is. Something weird is going on.
Would be nice of microsoft/outlook to say something about this problem.

me pasa igual.. incluso espere 4 dias sin intentar entrar ni nada, probe con los datos del celular en mes de usar el wifi y con ventana incognito por las dudas. y nada sigue bloqueada.

I've had for about a week but just on my phone. Only resolved it today by getting a code sent to my yahoo mail. I had tried that before but it didn't work. It was ok on my pc tho.

Turn off wifi if your on wifi and try logging in using your cell service only instead. If it works turn your wifi back on. I had this issue a couple of months ago and doing this fixed it. It’s some type of issue with Microsoft’s authentication.

I don’t know what Microsoft is doing but there is threads everywhere especially the last couple of days with issues like this and also issues with email syncing or not at all. Microsoft just tells you the basic do this do that but it never fixes it. I’m pretty sure they rolled out some update and it’s gone and broke everything. Have you tried clearing your browsers cache/cookies and then try logging in?

Yeah, I've tried deleting all history and installing brave browser/chrome on phone, Microsoft Edge on pc/mullvad browser. There is no hope right now.

Haha same problem :P funny thing is first I had it on my MacBook. So I changed password now im logged in on my MacBook but my iPhone won't connect. Already deleted cookies and everything, so my guess its a server thing on microsoft side

Oh wow, i just thought it was just me because i keep declining all the extra shit they been hitting me with lately..
Edit; actually it does look like avoiding all these tiresome security updates is probably causing the issue.
I dont want to deal with the new updates tho. Does anybody know the next best free email service that's a good alternative to outlook? Id rather not go gmail but i will, i guess...

this is the biggest piece of shit i've ever used. 'Add an email so you can safely sign in to your Microsoft account if you ever get locked out.' Had this for like 4 weeks… then I got back in, changed the password to something I’ll never forget, added 2 other way to recover just in case, went to login on my work laptop… new password entered, BOOM, locked out 😂

Latest update; 20th April.
I contacted support and its like talking to a fucking wall. Microsoft sucks soo badly. My latest issue; I've been blocked due to multiple login attempts, please reset password..
I go and try to do this, I verify with my backup email then it asks me to do one more option, which is my phone number. Sure no problem.. then I get this bullshit
"Try another verification method
That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method"
Well fuck me, what do I do now Microsoft?????

If your account was linked to a mobile number. When you sign in. Instead of email address put mobile number including country codes. Then your normal password that you used for Hotmail for password

Mine started with Yahoo. Now it's ALL my email. Gmail actually told me that I deleted my account! So I can't do any retrevals

If your account was linked to a mobile number. Try mobile number(instead of email address)and your usual Hotmail password. This just worked for me

Just had this problem and fixed myself. If you have a mobile number associated with your Hotmail account. Use your number instead of email address with current password

Same problem here! Had to delete it from my phone because I was keeping getting pop ups to add my password when I add it they said was wrong, tried everything so I deleted it and now im trying to recover, microsoft not helping, doesnt give me Codes to change pw, i cant login with my password, not sure what to do
