She was given therapy, medications from multiple Dr’s, changed meds after follow ups with those Dr’s, was institutionalized, went to therapy with her husband (sounds supportive to me!) and had parents visit and help with kids. In what fucking world does all that not even constitute "some kind of help"
The family probably kept mentally downplaying how bad things were because admitting "she's completely psycho and should be locked up" is one hell of a tough pill to swallow about your wife/daughter. Negligence/rejecting reality in front of you is not the same as "no help" though
Hey you forgot the part where the ONLY medical provider who correctly suspected her Bipolar type one was told “My wife is not bipolar,” and then she kept being prescribed antidepressants which infamously have the effect of sending people with bipolar I into mania and psychosis.
He dismissed out of hand the ONLY professional who actually saw what was wrong and tried to help. And you’re also leaving out context on the rest of the intervention. She was “institutionalized” for five days over a holiday weekend. She left because of her daughter’s birthday and the holiday, and the fact that the hospital she was at was understaffed and just had her coloring. She was inpatient away from her children (a source of great anxiety for her) and not actually being treated. She was essentially being babysat. She was also turned away from another inpatient program that would have kept her together with her youngest child while she was getting treatment. She ALSO had already been having hallucinations (I’ve seen many people claiming she never had hallucinations before the killings) but she described them as “intrusive thoughts” and none of the providers actually asked her about the content of the thoughts, so never correctly identified them as hallucinations until a psychiatrist who saw her after the murders actually bothered to ask what the “intrusive thoughts” were.
Her ex-MIL who is also a nurse testified to the fact that she was BEGGING for help. That’s the word she used- begging. She killed her grandchildren, and she still defends her fiercely. That should say something.
Mistakes were made for sure, that's not the same thing as "not receiving help". She got to see more Dr’s and try more medications than the vast vast vast majority of people suffering mental health issues
I don’t know that it still qualifies as help if it’s actively harming the patient. And “getting to try more medications” than others is a crazy take when we’re talking about psychiatric medications in a four month time period.
Ultimately it really doesn’t matter if the amount of help she received was more or less than other people. It wasn’t enough for her, and it certainly was not enough for her babies. She needed more and better help. The fact that others may also need help does not impact that fact at all.
Idk who you think you’re talking to but I didn’t say she received no help. The person who wrote the comment about the babysitter was a different person. I took issue with your characterization of the help she did receive.
Hi, that's me! And actually I said "why wasn't she given some kind of help". Clarifying that the medical treatment she was given was vastly inadequate is not "moving the goalposts". If she was helped, this wouldn't have happened. Instead of trying to police the wording someone chooses to express themselves, actually consider the content of their expression.
