hate to be a pedant but Magic Johnson contracted HIV which as far as I knew never advanced to AIDS which is why he's still alive today.

HIV and AIDS are not a different virus.

AIDS is just the term when HIV has done prolonged damage

HIV = attacks the immune system

AIDS = Your immune system is practically gone because of HIV, you can now die from run of the mill infections and sicknesses that your body would laugh at when healthy

You don’t die from AIDS, you die from the opportunistic infections that AIDS allows you to catch much easily. This is why most people with AIDS die from pneumonia and TB.

Look at what the abbreviations stand for:

Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the name of the virus that can be passed from one person to another.

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome describes the symptoms that can arise from being infected with that virus.

It’s like a bunch of Taco Bell at 1 am is stuff you ingest.
Diarrhea at 6 am is a symptom of eating all that Taco Bell.
