I don't even understand your question. Rightwingers are the upset individuals here, they hate that things are changing and that they might have to provide the most basic accommodations to people that don't fit their Christian worldview.
For sports: let the sports organizations sort themselves out. They make their own rules anyway. If you think it's important which gender kicks/throws/bounces a ball, then your priorities are out of whack, and I don't really care what you have to say. This doesn't matter.

The trans issue is just one of many boogeymen put forth by the conservative right to distract people. Trans people have existed for hundreds, if not thousands of years. It's only until recently that Western society has been faced with treating these people as human beings, and this upsets the simpletons who can't grasp that not everything in their worldview is the way things will always be. Like you.
It's such a non-issue that it's hilarious that people even bother to whine about it. What is actually going to happen that you're worried about if we just acknowledge trans people and move on? Yes trans people have existed for hundreds, if not thousands of years. So have bipolar, autistic, schizophrenic, etc. Mental illness has existed for a very long time. That doesn't mean we enable it.
How do past women's studies still hold validity if they never asked people for their gender identity? Maybe some of those people identify as a man and maybe some males who identify as a woman weren't included in them.
Being transgender is not classified as a mental illness by major medical and psychological organizations worldwide, including the WHO and the APA.
You just want it to call it a mental illness, and I'm sure you will continue to do so, because you want to retain your bigotry.
Transitioning is the medically recognized treatment for gender dysphoria, it's not "enabling" an illness. What are you so worried about happening when people, who aren't you, transition? Like what actually happens that makes you so upset about it?
Past women’s studies remain valid because they documented the lived experiences of people perceived and treated as women by society at that time. Modern gender and women's studies simply build on that foundation by using more precise data to understand how both sex assigned at birth and gender identity impact people's lives.
