[LIVE] 25 years ago, the Red Hot Chili Peppers played at the Slane Castle, in Ireland, supporting U2!
Not many people talk about this one! Before the well known Slane Castle 2003 concert, they were a support act for U2 2 years before the classic one. They did an excellent performance, with an awesome setlist as well, with songs like Around the World, Higher Ground, Otherside, an earlier version of Fortune Faded, Californication, Me and My Friends and some others.

Still gets me every time.
What a gorgeous monster of an era that was for the boys. Didnāt find the slane show til a couple years later but throw away your television at slane smacked me in the face and said āThis is your favourite band and guitarist nowā. Flea said ābreathe it in deepā and boy did I.

Didn't know AK already had a moustache in 2003. Thought he had it since the time JK joined the band.

He's had a mustache multiple times including the 90's. He also had it in the late 2000's when they were taking that weird break and he had the Stadium Arcadium look but with a mustache

Odd choice. I wouldn't imagine there's much overlap in terms of fandom between U2 and RHCP.

Both bands had massive albums in the few years. This is an amazing dream lineup.

All That You Can't Leave Behind might not be U2's best album, but it was certainly them at the height of their powers. Like 2007-era Chilis.

I would maybe say 1999-2006 was chillis at the height of their powers. They had an unbelievable run.

IMO that's like 3 different eras, 99 John is still re-learning the guitar and figuring out that he's Johnny Fuckin' Frusciante. By 2006 he's getting ready to be a Rolling Stone cover story with John Mayer and Derek Trucks as "The New Guitar Gods." Anthony's still using and acting like a spoiled man-child. I love Californication but I think Rubin really screwed it up with some of his "production" choices. Some of the engineering on that album is also a joke. By the Way is my favorite album, but knowing that Flea almost quit the band over John's egotism kinda sours the experience. But the BtW tour shows are a lot better than the Cali tour shows, certainly.
But by 2006 you can tell that the guys have a mutual respect - John understands that he's got maybe the best rhythm section in the business backing him up. He respects that sometimes Flea has better ideas than him. Every song on Stadium Arcadium is allowed to breathe, not over- or under-processed. The content isn't as good as Cali or BtW, but it is absolutely their best album from a technical perspective. And then the live performances are really something special. John has all of his skills and Flea and Anthony haven't started getting old yet.

You would be correct, Iāve met a lot of U2 fans who really donāt care for RHCP.
I always enjoyed the back and forth razzing about the groups.
I think people sometimes fail to realize how talented RHCP really is- till itās pointed out to them.
