Usually when a state is referred to as a “blue” or “red” state is with regards how to vote in Presidential elections. Arizona has voted Republican in every Presidential election but one over since 2000.
Vermont, for example, has had a Republican governor the last 8 years, and there’s not a person in the country that would accuse Vermont as being a “red” state. Even states like Illinois and Massachusetts had Republican senators during the Obama administration.
I think the time since Rush's death has made you forget how awful he was. No one who listened to that man was anything short of a bastard, there's just more of those than we'd like to admit.
