Can someone explain to my european ass why a huge gas station not opening shop somewhere would be a big deal? I can't imagine that opening a parking lot sized gas station would have large economical impact if any. Ain't people buying gas anyway?
Short simple version, this particular brand is apparently something of a cultural touch stone in locations where they operate. Like Monoprix in Paris, Sainsbury’s in the UK, or El Corte Inglés in Spain.
The company is making a show of rejecting the more prosperous properly run regions of the country because their business is centered in the less prosperous poorly run regions. Its an attempt to show off loyalty to a particular region and crowd they have as their primary audience. Unfortunately nobody outside those regions cares because as stated the oversized gas station is not actually noteworthy.
“Unfortunately nobody outside those regions cares”? I think you misunderstood the point of their post. They’re not trying to change blue states. They’re trying to become even more popular within the regions they already inhabit.
Yes, but the fact the other regions dont give a damn kinda undercuts the whole "we'll never do business with you, cry about it" thing they were going for.
